Chapter 9 - I AM HERE; The battle for salvation comes to an end

The loud gust of wind gave a hardy laugh before exclaiming "I AM HERE!"

I recognize that laugh, the only man who laughs like "GYA HAH HAH HAH!"

It was Nolan Von Blaire

He crashed down on the island and walked from the smoke, drawing his Dragon-scale sword as he did so.

"Pride! If that's even what you call yourself anymore!" He paused, pointing his blade towards him.

I noticed from under kilgue that his eyes turned from red to pink

"Nolan! What are you doing here!?" He snarled, whipping his head back to look towards my father

"My son needed assistance! I'd be a bad Father to sit idle and watch!"

"Father huh.." He grinned as he pressed his sharp claws into my throat

"He'd be a distraction in our battle."

I closed my eyes as his claws dug deeper into my neck until he stopped digging.

Drip

Drip

I felt something warm drip onto my face.

It was blood

I looked up to see my father's blade pierced through Kilgue–Or "Pride's" arm.

"I wouldn't do that if I were you." He said with a stern look on his face.

"AGH!" Pride winced and leaped back, slipping the blade out of his arm.

"You're clearly outmatched here." Father's tone became suddenly serious.

"Your mother will be here soon, sit tight and I'll make this quick."

He said as he walked towards Pride, spinning the blade around his arm.

"Aye aye!" I said and crawled over to maelin

Pride and my father disappeared, I heard metal clanking around me and footsteps that sounded light speed.

I sat there, coddling Maelin in my lap.

I saw footsteps digging into the earth around me but I saw no feet. until suddenly I saw claws directly in front of my eyes. Pride and my father appeared out of nowhere–Pride trying to jab his claws into my eyes and my father stopping him.

"Low blow."

He said before he slammed the flat part of his blade into Pride's face, slamming him toward the ground.

Pride tried to find his footing but Father got on top of him and put his blade to his throat

"Damn you..!" he laid back and accepted his fate

Father put a seal on him, keeping his power at a minimum

"I'm not going to kill you because you're Otto's friend. but you will be facing prison time."

Pride looked away and snarled

"400 Years for you, 15 for the boy! How does that sound?"

My father took him down to the prison.

And finally.. The war was over. Leaving 46 dead, and many injured. We spent the next few weeks helping repair the city, the crime rate was relatively low, ignoring the occasional petty theft. Because of this, everything on the mission board were things such as "Help carry logs" or "rebuild this" and stuff that pertained to rebuilding the city.

3 weeks pass and substantial progress is made in repairing the city, the school is finally inhabitable again!

I was excited to go back to school until Maelin stopped me..

"Otto Von Blaire." Maelin said

When she uses my full name it's never good..

"Yes..?" I flinched and slowly turned to face her

Maelin sat there, transitioning between twirling her hair and twiddling her thumbs.

This is new.. she never shows any other emotion besides anger and condescendence.

"So.. I've been summoned back to the Fawnea Kingdom for a feast!" Her tone ramped up

"Oh that's awesome! Good for you!" I patted her shoulder and turned to continue walking before she grabbed my hand, stopping me.

"Is something the matter, dear friend?" I said with an airy grin on my face

"I told my parents that I'm planning marriage with a great adventurer, and they want to meet him!"

She held my hand tighter

Don't tell me…

"That adventurer would be you.." she held me even tighter

"Nope!" I yanked away, trying to escape her grasp

I refuse to miss valuable learning in school! Knowledge is power after all!

"You have to go! I already told them!"

She pulled me away from the gate to the school

"I don't have to do anything! I didn't consent to this!" I escaped her grasp and started running

"Stop running!" She used magic to fire projectile rocks at the back of my head until I fell unconscious

I woke up to the bumping of the carriage that was strewn behind a land dragon

"Screw you.." I weakly said as I adjusted the bag of rice that my head was being rested on

"You wouldn't have gone anyway!"

She scoffed

"You kidnapped me!" I sat upright. I tried to fold my hands to my lap however I couldn't

"Maelin." I said, tugging at the fiber around my wrists

Maelin formed a smile on her face that screamed "I'm guilty"

"Why is there a rope tying my hands together!" I awkwardly laughed.

She laughed along with me

"You're so lucky I'm out of magic right now!" I tried to jump towards her but I face planted on the ground

"You got my feet too!?" I tried moving my feet apart

"Or what?" She crouched down close to me

"You bitch.." I said trying to bite through the rope

"I've got something for you! Just you wait!" I gnawed at the rope

"I was going to untie you anyway, we're inside of the kingdom already, not long until we reach the castle." She sat on my back, crossing her legs.

I looked up to see our location. The kingdom looked extremely primitive compared to Aeoland, the houses and buildings were made of stone and wood, like a fantasy village almost. Streets stretched out in all directions, it looked as though it were infinite. In the middle of it all was a large castle.

Maelin pushed my head down onto the wooden floor of the carriage

"Chairs don't move." Maelin scoffed

"Tch.."

"I assume that castle is our destination." I said, staying still

"Chairs don't speak either." She adjusted her position

".."

"I kinda enjoy this." I grinned and giggled

"Weirdo.." She got up off of me and sat as far away from me as she can

The creep method always works! Heh!

"You could at least cut my ropes!"

"Sure." She said as the ropes un-tied themselves

"Wow, magic sure comes in handy." I got up off of the floor and rubbed my wrists

"Hey, read this, my parents are going to ask you about it." She said, tossing me a newspaper

The newspaper spoke about the Kilgue incident. The headline read

"Chimera terrorist destroys Aeoland."

"So basically they're wondering if they should punish him as a human, or if they should put him to rest like a chimera." Maelin said, trying to yank the newspaper from me

"Wait! I'm not done reading!" I snatched it right back

She sighed and yanked it back

"Kilgue's a person tho!"

"Yes I know."

The Carriage stopped as Maelin signed into the castle and we continued moving

"So what's your family like?" I asked

"They're all Fairies. AND IF THEY CHALLENGE YOU DON'T ACCEPT! It's a tradition to challenge people in magic based activities."

"Also my brother! He's very-" Maelin stopped herself as a third presence entered the carriage

"Wow! So you're the great hero!" A little boy appeared beside me, observing

"Gah!" I fell on the ground

"Who are you!?" I said, shocked

"I'm Merlon Fawnea! Maelin's little brother!"

Now that I'm looking, I do see the resemblance.. Merlon had short brown hair and pointy elf ears just like Maelin.. His eyes were green and his skin was so silky smooth.

"Oh, I definitely see it.."

"Hey, Hero! Wanna race!" He got all in my face and I inches away

Maelin grabbed him by his ear and yanked him away

"Don't go terrorizing our guests already.."

"Wait! No! Stop! What magic do you use!" Merlon clawed at the ground, trying to stay

"Uhm.. I actually don't have magic."

I awkwardly laughed.

Maelin threw the boy out of the carriage and slammed the door shut.

"Don't release any magic or he can come back." Maelin dropped back down in her chair and crossed her arms.

"What is his magic even..?" I looked out the window at the boy trying to catch up with the carriage

"The little shit can teleport wherever there is mana, so basically anywhere." She crossed her arms

"That's awesome.."

The carriage came to a stop and there were butlers who helped us out of our carriage and led us into the castle

"Hey Hero!" Merlon said, clutching onto my leg.

"What is it, little guy?" I asked as I sat my sack down onto my bed

"Can you please race me! Please, Great Hero Shinigami!" The boy said

His words resounded through the air as my heart dropped down to my feet.

"God of death."

The word for "Death" In vistarian is Meldor.. Right?

That word.. Shinigami is from my world.

"Shinigami..? Where did you hear that word?"

I grabbed the boy by the shoulders and pulled him close.

"Uhm.. The founder of Aeoland.. He had the word written in his diary.. It means King, or Lord.." He pried my fingers off of his shoulders

"No it doesn't." I grabbed harder

"It means-.." I paused "Nevermind."

I let go of Merlon and he stepped back

"Sorry for the trouble, kid."

"Yeah.. The family is waiting for you in the Banquet hall.." He said before he teleported off

Ugh I creeped the boy out.. I need to apologize..

Anyway! Is this the new arc in my story? The founder of Aeoland, The Sky island. I'll ask Maelin about it.

I continued to think about what Merlon said as I wandered around in an attempt to find the banquet hall until a Butler stopped me.

He was a tall slender man in a slick black tuxedo, he had slicked back brown hair and a scruffy beard

"What is it that you're looking for, Lord Von Blaire?" He stood at ease.

"Me? Just the Banquet hall." I said, awkwardly laughing and scratching my chin

"Follow me." He blankly said before turning around and walking.

There was a short pause before he asked- "Young Lord, would you like to engage in a duel after dinner?"

"Oh, uh sure." I said.

The Butler and I finally reached our destination

The large doors swing open. Immediately meeting my gaze was a large table, too large for a family of 6. It was fit for a party of at least 20.

"There he is! The guest of honor!" Maelin's father's voice ricocheted off of the walls of the large banquet hall.

"Thank you!" I awkwardly said as I found a seat beside this blonde kid, he was probably the same age as Maelin. His hair was blonde and scruffy, and his elf ears poked out from under.

"Hi, I'm Otto!" I said as I pulled my seat out

"I know who you are." He snapped back, barely glancing at me

Well fuck you too then!

But I didn't say that out loud.

"Oh! Well what's your name?"

I said, politely

"The hell do you care?"

He snapped, looking me in my eyes.

"Chronos! Be nice to our guests."

Someone I'd only assume is Maelin's mother shouted from across the table. She was the only one who was a human.

"No. I challenge you to a duel, Right here, Right now!" He bolted up from the table, taking a book out of his pocket.

"I'll take you up on that!" I stood up, reaching for the blade that I thought was on my hip.

I sat there grabbing at nothing before realizing I left my blades in my room.

"Ah, hell."

Maelin's father and everyone else cheered on the duel, Maelin's mother was opposed.

I grabbed a kitchen knife off of the table

"This'll do."

We paused, staring at each other waiting for the right time.

"Begin!" Maelin's father shouted

Instantly, Chronos went on the offensive, shooting blue bolts of magic in my direction.

I narrowly dodged all of them and regained my posture.

It seems as though the concept of greek gods are apparent in this world as well, so if i'm going off a whim, it'd be safe to guess he has something to do with time due to him sharing the name of the greek god of time.

I leaped on the dinner table and tried to close the gap between us but a powerful force created by chronos launched me into the wall.

"Take this!" He said as he flipped through the pages in his book and fired more bolts of magic towards me

I pushed off the wall and tried to block a bolt with my blade. To my surprise my blade rusted and turned to dust.

"It seems you've met my Speedo Bullet! Anything they touch gets aged!"

He pulled his book in front of him and erected a large blue blade from the pages.

I noticed that the hand that he's holding it with is the hand of an old man now.

"You can accelerate time but you can't stop or reverse it!" I blurted out

"Perceptive. But wrong! I can do all of that!" He laughed maniacally

This guys a walking cheat!

He lunged at me, attempting to pierce me with his blade

I stepped to the side and using the rest of my mana reserves I created a handful of sand and threw it into his eyes

"Pocket sand!" I shouted

But next thing I knew, the sand that I had thrown was frozen in the air, and I couldn't move.

"You're probably wondering "Why can't I move!". Well the answer is quite simple. I froze you in time using this Tome. This is an ancient Artifact that can make anything possible, as long as you're attuned to that magic type. I have a natural affinity to time magic so I can do anything I write in this book that relates to time." He walked around me and monologued.

He turned to the family and threw his arms out beside him

"Is this your hero!? Stooping down and using dirty tricks such as pocket sand!?" He turned back to me

"He is no hero." He said as he picked up my knife off of the ground, restoring it to its previous state when it was sharp.

"Anyone could've killed that filthy Orc. He isn't special, especially if he's losing to me."

He pressed the blade against my stomach

"I'll show you."

He began slowly inserting the blade into my abdomen

I wanted to scream but I couldn't.

I noticed Maelin wincing and covering her eyes from the sidelines.

"You defeated someone as worthless as an Orc, So what. I'll go to his jail cell and finish the job right now!" He pushed the blade deeper

I felt my jaw twitch in the frozen time.

My healing factor!

"Don't you talk.. About Kilgue.. In such a manner." I gritted my teeth

"You should be frozen!"

He stepped back letting go of the blade.

my body began to steam and slowly broke free

"I won't let you.." I coughed up blood before I finished speaking

"I won't let you talk about Kilgue.."

I forced my body to move through frozen time.

"So watch your fucking mouth!" I reached across and delivered a blow to his jaw

He fell to the ground, holding the spot where I punched him

"You shouldn't be able to move!"

I felt the spell be released

"And you should watch your mouth!" I climbed on top of him, stopping him from getting back to his feet.

I punched him in his face over, and over, and over again.

He pressed his hand on my chest, trying to push me off of him.

"Stay down!" I spat blood into his eyes and headbutted him

"Fuck you!" He created a dagger out of magic

"That's enough!" Maelin's father shouted

I paused and when I looked back at Chronos, I noticed his hand was awfully close to my throat, and my chest and neck felt warm. And that signature blue glow from his dagger was in my eyes.

I traced up his arm with my hand, following where his hand went until I reached the blade that I couldn't quite find the tip of.

That's because it was lodged in my jugular.

"Agh!" I jumped back, applying pressure to the wound clearly panicked

"Tess!" Maelin's father shouted and Maelin's mother leaped to try to heal my wound

Fear convoluted my mind, only making the blood rush faster and shoot out in spurts.

I felt as if I was choking on my own blood before I blacked out.

I didn't dream while I was out, no visions of the dragon, no sweet dreams, just darkness and silence.

I woke up to a large man standing over me

He had a small stubble beard with short blonde hair and a wide structure.

I slowly arose from my bed, touching the area where I was stabbed to find that it was healed entirely.

"You're lucky, if it wasn't for your healing you'd be dead." The man spoke

This man was sitting at the table..

"You're Maelin's father right?"

"Yes! My name is Ferlon Fawnea!" He proudly exclaimed

"Okay, well Ferlon, do you guys have any book similar to the one that Chronos used?" I said as I pushed myself off of my bed

"No.. That was passed down through the generations, we do have books on magic theory though!" He smiled and offered to show me to the library

"I don't care then. Bring me to Chronos and let me borrow his book."

"Uhm.. If you say so.." Ferlon led me down the hall to Chronos' room

"How long will you be staying with us?" Ferlon asked questions to keep my spirits up as he led me to his son's room

"3 Days." I blankly said as I had only one goal in mind

We arrived at Chronos' room and I immediately entered, walking up close to him.

I pulled my Chimera-Scale Dagger from my waistband and held it tightly in my hand

"Give me your Tome."

"What..?" He looked shocked and stepped back

"Why?"

"I know the technology to recreate it."

Ferlon and Chronos immediately looked shocked

"Really!?" Ferlon shouted

I nodded, keeping my gaze on Chronos

Hesitantly, Chronos summoned the Tome and dropped it in my hands. The pages warped, everything he wrote in the book vanished and left all the pages blank.

I took up a quill and began to write in the book. Ferlon and Chronos stared at me, curious as to what's going to happen next

"This book can make anything happen..? Right?" I said as I paused my writing

"Yeah.." Chronos looked even more intrigued

I finished my writing and ostentatiously dotted the period signifying the end of the sentence before looking up to Chronos.

"You can't have kids."

"Huh..What..?" He looked confused

"I said.. You're infertile."

I showed him the boom that read in bold letters across the page

"CHRONOS T. FAWNEA IS UNABLE TO PRODUCE OFFSPRING AFTER THE CONCLUSION OF THIS SENTENCE."

"WHAT!? What about the recreation Technology!?"

"I lied." I said, with a sly look on my face

"It's okay, I can change it back!" He reached for the book

I moved the book an inch away from him

"Read the fine print."

Chronos squinted, trying to read it and it read

"Only I can reverse it."

He looked shocked.

"Bull shit!" He said as he snatched the book out of my hand and it warped back to his rendition of the tome.

"What can I do for you to revert it! Tell me!" He dropped to his knees

I blankly stared at him before tossing my dagger on the ground

"Stab yourself. Anywhere's fine."

"You asshole! You're really getting off on this, huh!?" His breathing grew heavy and he shakily took the knife off of the ground.

"You said you're naturally attuned to time magic..? No?"

"Yes.. I am.."

"That would mean you don't need this here tome? Right?" I slowly took the tome off of the ground.

"No.. Not necessarily.."

"Great, then I want it." I smiled as I stepped back.

"Okay but I'm only loaning it to you! Give it back before you leave!" He shouted, still sitting on the floor

"Deal." I smugly said as I walked past Ferlon and walked down the hall back to my room.

Moonlight shines from the many windows that repeat down the long corridor. It was quiet; leaving me only with my thoughts.

Why did I defend Kilgue's name?

That was my main question.. He killed many and almost killed me, and my friends. So why am I defending a murderer?

I kept walking, letting the sound of my footsteps cloud all other thoughts.

Even though he was a murderer he surely was one hell of a warrior. He stood true to his ideals until the day of his defeat. I find that Admirable.

I chuckled in a low tone before the sound of my footsteps doubled

I stopped and turned to see who the sound of footsteps belonged to.

It was a girl

She had long, straight white hair that faded into blonde, she had pale skin and freckles. She had beautiful green eyes that tied the look all together. She looked like a Goddess.

"I, Yvaine Fawnea Challenge you to a magical duel." She pointed her wand at me, wearing an aggressive look on her face

"Huh..?"

(On an unrelated note, it is 06/17/2025 as of me publishing this chapter, meaning it has been an entire month since I've released anything. However during that month's hiatus, I amassed an additional 5.1K Readers! I hope that you guys enjoy this new chapter and the many more that are to come!)

The loud gust of wind gave a hardy laugh before exclaiming "I AM HERE!"

I showed him the book that read in bold letters across the page

"Huh..?"
