"They won't get away, chase them with me!"
Yu Zhishi produced a gourd from his waist and opened it; a spirit-bee flew out and circled twice before heading north. Yu Zhishi smirked, "Trying to hide from me with a ruse like that? How naive."
The Black Tiger Gang mounted and rode hard after Yu Zhishi toward the city gate.
On the Ningzhou prefectural road, Li Ping'an and Li Yingying rode north together on a single horse. Li Yingying asked nervously, "Brother, aren't we running into a trap by heading north?"
Li Ping'an replied, "Sometimes the most dangerous place is the safest." He said this calmly, and Li Yingying nodded, trusting him.
After about half an hour, Li Ping'an felt an ill omen and pulled the reins. He told his sister to go on ahead while he handled some trouble. Li Yingying protested, but Li Ping'an's face grew stern as he dismounted.
Just as Li Yingying started to ride away, a booming voice declared, "Today neither of you will leave!" Two figures whistled past overhead and landed on the road ahead. Li Ping'an frowned as he recognized them, and the sound of galloping hooves approached.
Black Tiger Gang members, led by a scholarly middle-aged man, charged forward. Li Ping'an's expression darkened when he saw Yu Zhishi—Fierce Tiger Hall's first steward, nicknamed the Deadly Scholar.
Yu Zhishi raised his hand and halted his men, smiling with a cruel edge. "Kid, you didn't expect this, did you? I've had you watched for a long time."
Li Ping'an thought fast and begged, "Yu Zhishi, please let my sister go. I'll give my life for hers." Li Yingying cried out, "Brother, don't—"
Yu Zhishi laughed. "If you'd obediently boarded the Canal Gang's boat, perhaps I'd spare her out of mercy—girls like her are rare. But now there's only one way: cut the weeds and you die with them. Attack!"
Blades flashed as Fierce Tiger Hall disciples drew their weapons. No one noticed a huge shadow blotting the sun; if they had looked up, they would have seen a giant peacock spiraling above.
On its back, Chen Qianqian, seeing the young pair below, blurted out, "Senior Sister Caiyi, are those your son and daughter? The little girl is filthy, but she looks exactly like you—how did they come to be hunted?"
Chu Caiyi, looking down at the two young people, felt tears well up. In a single glance she knew they were her long-lost children; the bond of blood was unmistakable. As for those who pursued them, in her eyes they had already become corpses.
"Die!"
The word left her lips like a knife. With a casual sweep of her hand, a terrible force descended from the sky.
Boom!
With a deafening roar, the Fierce Tiger Hall disciples surrounding the Li siblings were instantly reduced to ash.
Only Yu Zhishi remained, slumped alone in the saddle, his face frozen in disbelief.
Li Ping'an and Li Yingying stood rooted, stunned beyond belief at the scene they had just witnessed.
They reflexively looked up and saw a colossal beast descending from the heavens.
Thud!
Yu Zhishi, seeing the shadow fall, was so frightened he tumbled from his horse; even his mount collapsed, unable to move.
As the shadow neared the ground, three figures dropped from the sky, and the black silhouette shifted into a humanoid form standing beside them.
"A demon! A shapeshifting demon!"
Yu Zhishi's cry was one of utter terror.

Caiyu Hou struck Yu Zhishi across the face and said coldly, "I am a Demon King. What right do you have to call me a shapeshifting demon?"
Chen Qianqian patted her shoulder. "Caiyu, why waste time explaining to such mortals? To them, even those at the Dao Foundation are gods."
"True."
Caiyu Hou ignored Yu Zhishi and turned his gaze to Chu Caiyi.
Chu Caiyi stood and looked at the two youths below; tears streamed down her face.
Li Ping'an and Li Yingying stared at the deity before them, bewildered. They had seen only a portrait of their mother as children, yet the goddess standing before them matched that image exactly. Seeing her weep unexpectedly made them want to cry as well.
But their foster mother had said their birth mother had died in the chaos of war—how could she stand here now?
"Mother, is it you?"
Li Yingying tentatively asked.
"It is I, children. Mother has finally found you."
Chu Caiyi stepped forward in an instant and embraced her two children, sobbing uncontrollably.
Yu Zhishi watched this and felt despair flood his heart—this was the end for the Black Tiger Gang.
They had interfered in a dispute among immortals; whatever the outcome, the Black Tiger Gang would be wiped out by these three immortals.
He raised his hand slowly, intending to take his own life.
But Chen Qianqian denied him the chance, freezing him in place with a point of fingertip. "Want to die? It isn't that easy. Tell us—who ordered you to come and kill my disciple's nephew and niece?"
Yu Zhishi wanted to refuse, yet words spilled from his mouth. He confessed everything, recounting the Fierce Tiger Hall Master's plan in full.
Hearing this, Chu Caiyi's face darkened like storm clouds.
A mother's ferocity had awakened.
She released her children and said, "Children, mother will avenge you. I will personally slaughter the Black Tiger Gang and the Liu family."
"Mother, Ping'an wants to take revenge with his own hands!"
Li Ping'an knelt, his face solemn and resolute.
"Mother, Yingying wants to settle scores with those bad people too."
Li Yingying mimicked her brother's posture with earnest determination.
Chu Caiyi nodded slightly. "Very well. Mother will grant you this. Let the Black Tiger Gang live a few more days—now tell me everything about how you've lived these past seventeen years."
"Yes."
The siblings nodded together.
