Chapter 151: Chance, Mew Is a Boy!!
"Rooaar!" After being healed by Ash's waveguide-infused Viridian Power, Nidoking stirred back to consciousness. It blinked slowly, and when its crimson eyes settled on the black-haired boy kneeling beside it eyes gentle, power calm and kind it gave a low growl of gratitude, a rumble filled with recognition and trust.
"It's alright now," Ash said softly, sensing the warm, cyclical flow of Viridian energy spiraling through his body. He reached out and patted Nidoking's sturdy arm, his fingers tingling slightly from the energy feedback.
Ash had discovered something deeper during the summer camp: cultivating the Power of Viridian also called the Blessing of Perdition wasn't just about pouring life force into injured Pokémon. It was about intention.
The true growth of this ancient power wasn't technical. It followed a deeper principle: healing without condition, giving without expectation. Just like when Ash was granted the Viridian blessing in the Perdition Forest, the forest of ancient origin where Celebi resided, the principle was clear selflessness was rewarded.
After weeks of practice during camp restoring injured Pokémon, soothing forest dwellers, guiding lost trainers Ash noticed something remarkable: every time he helped out of pure intent, without seeking power or favor, his connection to the Viridian Force deepened. The energy grew warmer, brighter, more stable.
It was as though the Pokémon world itself woven from balance, nature, and harmony recognized acts of kindness and responded in kind. The Viridian Power had a natural law embedded in it, a reward mechanism tied to pure-hearted behavior.
However, Ash had also tested its limits. He discovered that if he used the power selfishly say, to win a battle or cheat a challenge it still worked. But it offered no resonance. No growth, no warmth, no evolution.
The power of Viridian was, ultimately, a tool. It reflected the heart of its wielder.
"System, scan Nidoking's data," Ash commanded silently. The internal interface flickered to life.
[Nidoking]
Level: LV.23
Type: Poison/Ground
Nature: Impetuous
Ability: Poison Point
Potential Grade: C (Normal)
Skills (reproducible):
Adept: Megahorn, Leer, Poison Sting, Peck, Focus Energy, Fury Attack, Toxic Spikes, Double Kick, Horn Attack, Toxic, Poison Jab, Earth Power, Fire Blast
Uncommon: Flatter, Helping Hand
Ash nodded slightly. This wild Nidoking was different from the one he'd seen behind Professor Oak's lab more rugged, less trained, but not without value. While most of its moves were standard for a wild Pokémon, it had Earth Power, Megahorn, and Fire Blast, all potent tools.
Of course, some trainers might scoff at copying skills from a mid-level wild Pokémon, but Ash wasn't some entitled Coordinator from Hearthome. Every skill had use when wielded with strategy and synergy.
"System, begin skill replication," he instructed, then focused his aura. He converted his Viridian Force into an "irrigation" channel an infusion of natural energy that flowed through Nidoking like rain through dry roots.
10%… 30%… 50%… 70%… 90%… 100%.
The connection completed.
"Nidoking, this valley is part of the Pokémon Summer Camp zone," Ash said aloud, shifting to waveguide sound transmission so Nidoking could comprehend. "High-level Pokémon like you aren't supposed to stay in active training zones."
He gave Nidoking a gentle nod and motioned toward the distant meadow. "Wait here for a while. I'll ask the camp staff to escort you out safely later. There's a lush territory beyond the cliffs maybe you'll find a Nidoqueen waiting."
Nidoking gave a throaty, appreciative growl. But before leaving, it shot a nervous glance at Mew, who hovered a few feet away, its crystalline-blue eyes fixed on Ash with a strange intensity. The sheer weight of its presence even restrained made Nidoking's instincts scream.
With a respectful snort, Nidoking turned and lumbered away into the tall grass.
"Mi human boy, since you've awakened your waveguide power completely, you should be able to hear me now."
After helping Nidoking and watching it disappear into the distance, Mew, who had been silently circling Ash with a glint of curiosity in its azure eyes, finally spoke not aloud, but directly into Ash's heart through telepathic waveguide resonance.
"Are you... Mew?" Ash blinked in surprise, stunned by the sudden voice inside his mind. It was high-pitched, confident, and unmistakably boyish.
Given that Mew is a Psychic-type Mythical Pokémon, known in both history and in ancient Pokédex records as possessing powerful telepathic abilities especially among Pokémon of waveguide sensitivity Ash wasn't shocked that it could speak directly to him via aura. What did catch him off guard was the tone of Mew's voice.
It sounded like… a bratty, overconfident little boy.
"But Mew looks like a pink kitten shouldn't it sound more… girlish?" Ash thought, confused.
"Mew~! I'm adorable, obviously, but that doesn't mean I'm a girl." Mew twirled mid-air, rolling its large blue eyes at Ash with a tone that was both smug and matter-of-fact. "Of course I'm a boy. Don't judge by appearance!"
Ash scratched the back of his head. "Okay… fair enough." Mew's voice, attitude, and confidence certainly matched that of a mischievous boy.
Still, Ash's mind wasn't dwelling on Mew's gender. What he was really focusing on now was how to get physical contact with Mew not just to befriend it, but to copy its abilities. Because unlike any other Pokémon, Mew carried the DNA of every known species. It could learn any move. If Ash could imprint or replicate even a portion of Mew's genetic move-pool through the System's Skill Replication, the benefit would be game-changing for both battle and his upcoming online store expansion.
Meanwhile, Mew, still floating around Ash in lazy spirals, seemed distracted sometimes smiling with delight, sometimes gazing at Ash with a look of deep, almost melancholic contemplation. Eventually, its flight path stopped. The mythical Pokémon floated directly in front of Ash and stared at him, eyes glittering with seriousness.
"Human boy," Mew said softly, "you remind me of someone… someone very important to me. A human I owe a great debt to but he's gone now, long gone from this world."
Ash's breath caught for a moment. "An old friend…?"
"Mm." Mew nodded solemnly. "He was like you. He had the purest waveguide I've ever felt. Brave, selfless, stubborn… and kind."
"And because you remind me of him so much," Mew continued, voice deepening slightly with emotion, "I've decided to offer you a great opportunity. A once-in-a-lifetime gift. But it will change your fate. Do you dare accept it?"
Although Mew's voice was still that of a confident boy, the expression on its face its wide eyes, the slight downturn of its lips gave it the air of an ancient soul, far older than its appearance suggested.
Ash was caught off guard. He'd been trying to think of ways to approach Mew and touch it long enough to trigger his System's Skill Copy, but this offer had flipped the script entirely.
"Wait, what do you mean… I remind you of someone?" Ash asked, heart pounding. "You mean someone from… the past?"
Mew's expression softened.
"Yes. My friend from the past… his name was Aaron. He lived more than a thousand years ago, during the Great Wars that tore apart the Pokémon world. He was the guardian of the city of Rota and wielded the waveguide as a knight."
Ash froze. "Aaron… you mean Sir Aaron from the legend of the Tree of Beginning?"
Mew floated closer and nodded.
"Yes. He gave up everything his aura, his life to save me and the Tree. I slept for centuries with that memory in my soul. And your waveguide… it feels exactly like his. Exactly. As if his very soul has returned."
Ash's heart pounded as he processed it. "If my waveguide is the same as Aaron's… could I be his reincarnation? Or did the 'Ash' of this timeline inherit the remnants of Aaron's soul somehow?"
As if hearing his inner thoughts, Mew tilted its head. "You're not him. But… perhaps, you carry his will. His echo. That's enough."
Mew paused for a moment, waiting for Ash to respond. But the boy was still lost in thought, staring at the ground.
"Hmph! You're a boring human," Mew scoffed, folding his tiny arms. "I just said I'm going to give you a great opportunity, and you're standing there like a Goldeen out of water!"
Ash blinked and snapped out of his thoughts. "Oh sorry, Mew! I didn't mean to ignore you. What's this big opportunity you're offering?"
Mew puffed out his chest, glowing slightly with pride.
"Hmph! You should be curious. After all, I'm Mew Transport Pokémon, Origin Pokémon, the source of all Pokémon genes. The chance I offer is beyond what any mortal trainer can dream of."
Ash looked up, finally intrigued. "Okay… what's the chance?"
