Nyx, on the other hand, leisurely leaned back in his chair and looked at Ellis's back, the corner of his mouth hooked up into an impish smile, "If we let the students of the academy know that the serious and aloof Instructor Ellis would personally cook for a demon, I wonder what the reaction would be?"
Ellis' movements didn't stop, he just said lightly, "You can try it and see if the coursework will be doubled next time."
Nyx: "..." He decisively chose to keep his mouth shut knowingly.
Dinner was soon ready, Ellis had made his usual dishes that Nyx could handle, and although it wasn't as flashy as a human meal, Nyx was still satisfied with the food.
After finishing his meal, Nyx leaned back in his chair contentedly and asked casually, "What's next?"
Ellis looked at him calmly, "Review today's lessons."
Nyx nearly choked on the water he had just drank, "Are you kidding me?"
Ellis' expression remained unchanged, "What do you think?"
Nyx covered his forehead with a lifeless look, "Ellis, you really are scarier than the abyss ..."
Ellis gathers up the books on his desk and faintly returns, "You said that a long time ago."
Nyx: "..."
He realized that he might not be able to escape the clutches of this demonic mentor for the rest of his life.
Nyx slumped on the table with a lifeless face and complained vaguely, "Ellis, you know what?Demons grow up without being tortured by human lessons ..."
Unperturbed, Ellis even flipped open a thick spellbook and blandly said, "That's why you learned so poorly."
Nyx snapped his head up and glared at him, "Hey, that's a little hurtful to a demon's pride."
Ellis continued to flip through the book without looking away, "If you really have self-respect, you should prove it to me."
Nyx gritted his teeth and looked at him, secretly swearing in his heart that when the day came when his magic power was completely stabilized, he would make sure to let Ellis have a taste of being tortured as well! But with Ellis's character, I'm afraid that no matter what he did, this guy would be able to deal with it without changing his face.
Thinking of this, Nix deflated again. He slumped in his chair and casually flipped through the textbook in front of him, his eyes drifting over the words on it, and suddenly asked, "Ellis, why are you so interested in these theories?"
Ellis closed the book in his hand and glanced at him, "These theories are built on the nature of magic, and by mastering them, one can control higher-order powers."
Nyx snorted, "But the demons of the Abyss are born with powerful magic, we don't need these rules and regulations at all."
Ellis looked at him quietly, his tone bland, "So you're planning to live on instinct for the rest of your life?"
Nyx frowned, "What do you mean?"
Ellis's fingers lightly tapped the desktop, "Magic's instincts are chaotic, relying on it alone will only lead to being consumed by it."
Nyx was slightly stunned. The words seemed to remind him of something, his expression became a little complicated, staring down at his palms, a slight hint of magic aura flared at his fingertips, but it quickly dissipated again. He didn't retort again, just picked up his pen in silence and looked back to the pages.
Seeing this, Ellis didn't continue to lecture, but looked down and continued his own research.
The room fell silent once more, but this time the atmosphere was much calmer than before.
It wasn't until early the next morning that Nyx sleepily rose from his bed and yawned as he walked into the living room, only to find a warm breakfast already on the table, obviously prepared by Ellis early in the morning.
He glanced in the direction of the kitchen to find Ellis with his back to him, standing at the kitchen table seemingly preparing something.
Nyx leaned against the doorframe and cocked his head at him, the corners of his mouth curling into a wicked smile, "Ellis, do you want to simply be my exclusive chef?"
Ellis replied without looking back, "If you're willing to study honestly every day, I can consider it."
Nyx shrugged, "Better not then."
