The next lesson was language.
Dante stood at the front of the classroom with the storybook in his hand. The book looked oddly small in his large fingers, the colorful cover clearly meant for children, featuring a smiling rabbit and a cheerful butterfly. He opened it carefully and glanced at the title for a brief moment before beginning to read.
His voice was calm and steady.
And completely expressionless.
"The little rabbit walked through the forest," he read in the same tone he might use while announcing a military order or reviewing tax documents. "He saw a butterfly and felt happy."
The babies slowly looked at one another.
Felix raised one eyebrow so high it nearly disappeared.
Kelpie blinked rapidly, water droplets spraying in confusion.
Rocky tilted his head so far it looked like it might fall off.
Luna stared at Dante for a moment, then looked at Vlad Jr. as if silently asking whether this was some kind of test.
