"Telepathy?" Danzo was startled. Before he could react, a roar echoed in his mind.
"Danzo-sama, run!"
Yamanaka Fū yelled, his hands forming hand seals. A powerful psychic shockwave swept outwards, causing a thunderous roar in the minds of everyone within hundreds of meters. Their minds went blank.
Danzo froze, cursing inwardly. He feared not powerful opponents but incompetent allies. He'd been hoping to wriggle out of this, but Fū had cornered him. He had to escape. But to escape Konoha, he needed a hostage.
He lunged towards the Third Hokage. A few breaths later, he was close enough. He'd calculated that seizing the Hokage would ensure his escape.
But as he approached, he saw Kai, who should have been incapacitated by Fū's jutsu, smiling knowingly.
If he knew of the Mona Lisa, he'd say Kai's smile was even more unnerving. He realized Fū had overlooked something crucial.
Kai was unaffected by the psychic attack, having already withstood the Seven-Colored Phantom Dragon. This wasn't surprising; Kai had a system, defying normal logic.
"Minato's been watching. Since you're not helping, don't blame me," Kai said warmly, looking towards Minato on the viewing platform.
Before Minato could react, he appeared beside Danzo. His hand shot out, his kunai slicing through Danzo's clothing and bandages.
Psh!
The sound of tearing fabric echoed as the momentarily stunned Third Hokage and others regained their senses.
This entire sequence had taken mere seconds. Everyone knew what was happening. Their attention turned to Danzo's arm, covered in strange seals and closed eyes.
The eyes were sealed, but an arm full of eyes was undeniable proof of Kai's claims.
"Damn it!" the Third Hokage roared. "Danzo, what have you done?!"
"Arrest Danzo! Detain him!"
The Anbu sprang into action. Danzo's face contorted. "Orochimaru, where are you? When will you act?!"
Orochimaru?
Everyone's faces paled. The Sharingan arm was bad enough; colluding with a rogue ninja was damning.
"Heh, this is exciting. Uchiha Kai is right; your teammate is disappointing," a cold laugh echoed. The ground rumbled.
"Summoning Jutsu: Yamata no Jutsu!"
A massive summoning sigil covered half the viewing platform. Orochimaru, at his peak, made a grand entrance.
Countless snakes erupted from the ground, attacking the crowd. Their bites were potentially fatal; Orochimaru was a master of human experimentation and toxins.
"Minato, get Danzo! I'll handle Orochimaru!" Jiraiya yelled, his voice sharp. He'd been pursuing Orochimaru for years without success. This was his chance.
Minato's face fell. Everything had happened too fast. Danzo's Sharingan arm, his collusion with Orochimaru—it shattered their understanding.
And Kai seemed to have foreseen it all. This was terrifying.
Minato dashed towards the retreating Danzo.
Boom!
A low rumble echoed from beneath the ground. Minato saw the earth splitting open, wooden tendrils snaking towards his ankles. He used the Flying Thunder God Technique to escape.
Boom!
The attack missed, the tendrils colliding with a thunderous crash. Everyone's faces paled.
"That's… the First Hokage's Wood Release jutsu," Mitokado whispered.
The Third Hokage's face was grim. He found a foothold, surveying the chaos. "Orochimaru, your human experimentation succeeded." But like Jiraiya, he couldn't sense Orochimaru.
"Teacher, long time no see. If you'd supported my research, this Wood Release would have been a powerful asset," Orochimaru's amused voice echoed.
"You won't find me by scent. Even face-to-face, you wouldn't recognize me."
"Of course, you could beg me. If I'm in a good mood, I might appear."
"Orochimaru, are you an idiot? Everyone's running, and you're bragging in a snake pit?
You're a terrible teammate," Kai's voice cut through the chaos. He stood amidst the snakes, protected by his Susano'o, a knowing smile on his face.
Orochimaru, hidden in the stands, tensed, looking behind him.
