Chapter 182: The Patronus Charm!
Just as that possibility emerged, Sequeel, with Dylan mounted on its back, prepared to descend to the ground. But Dylan suddenly whipped Sequeel's rump with his wand.
"Don't stop, keep going!"
"Riiiii !"
Sequeel cried out in pain. It turned its head resentfully. You told me to keep flying, so why whip me, and with your wand at that! Dylan had never extracted the Hippogriff's living soul for refining, so he naturally didn't understand their language. But through its gaze, Dylan could discern what it wanted to express though he completely disregarded it. He even raised his wand again.
"Don't want to fly anymore?"
"Riiiii!"
Sequeel quickly lifted its head, shaking its pure black wings. The wind pressure once again carried them soaring higher into the sky, further and higher than before!
Hagrid, below, froze. Watching Sequeel lead Dylan steadily higher, as if planning to fly away, his expression changed, and his heart clenched.
Hermione exclaimed, "Your Hippogriff is out of control! Where is it taking Dylan?"
Hagrid clenched his fists, unsure how to respond. However, Malfoy, who was in front of the crowd, now looked up at Dylan and the beast, who were almost black dots in the sky, with a suspicious expression. Was the beast out of control? But he felt as if Hawkwood had just whipped the beast's rump with his wand? Was it truly out of control, or was it being forced?
Rarely, Malfoy actually felt some empathy for an animal.
Sure enough, it didn't come as a surprise to him. From high in the sky, Dylan's triumphant shouts echoed. Malfoy's face darkened on the ground. He guessed right! And even if the beast wasn't out of control, he didn't believe Hawkwood would run into any trouble!
His research into various spells left him somewhat dumbfounded. He even suspected that the other party had already mastered the Unforgivable Curses! Perhaps Dumbledore taught him! They say Dumbledore doesn't know dark magic? Hmph, that lie only fools some idiots! He wouldn't believe it!
At this moment, high up in the distant sky, Dylan revelled in the exhilaration of high-speed flight. A surge of delight rose within him; though not intense, he tried his best to amplify it. He disregarded others' gazes, others' opinions. He also ignored whether anyone might discern the numerous abilities he concealed, the unknown and unknowable other side of him.
To hell with Dumbledore! So what if I'm Karthus?! I'm going to capture all creatures and draw their blood! I'll turn the entire wizarding world into my personal backyard! Voldemort can go live or die wherever he pleases, just don't get in the way of my research into fascinating and intriguing magic!
Until a certain moment, he cast his spell again, loudly shouting that one phrase
"Expecto Patronum!"
This time, as the Hippogriff beneath Dylan flapped its wings, tearing through the clouds, silvery-white substance erupted from the tip of Dylan's wand, transforming into a swirling mist that condensed into a vortex thousands of feet high. The sensation was like someone scattering stardust upon a lake, or like pulling a wispy afterimage from the depths of a dream.
Dylan was pleasantly surprised. Looking at the swirling silvery-white substance around him, Dylan was certain. He would definitely succeed this time! He would summon his very own Patronus!
The silvery threads of light folded in the air, first outlining the curved spine of a beast, then shoulder blades rose from the void, causing ripples throughout the air.
The Patronus's mane flowed down like a liquid silver river, each strand of light trailing a translucent tail. Under Dylan's expectant gaze, the beast's skull finally took shape. In its hollow eye sockets, two points of eerie blue fire ignited, then transformed into unfathomable abysses of stars.
"This is..." Dylan looked at it with some surprise. Why did this Patronus look so much like... a Qilin?
Until his Patronus fully appeared, Dylan accidentally glanced at its backside. Wait! Why was there no anus?! So, could this be... a Pixiu?!
The Patronus stepped forward and landed in front of Dylan. It had a dragon's head with horns, a horse's body with Qilin legs, and a mane.
"It's really a Pixiu?? How could I summon a Pixiu?!" The Patronus summoned by the Patronus Charm isn't random; it's a materialized form of the wizard's purest strength and deepest personality. Just like others, they might have a stag, a wolf, or a dog. Why did the style suddenly change for him? What was this implying? That he only took in and never gave out??? You've gotta be kidding me...
Dylan looked at his Patronus, his joy now replaced by astonishment and confusion. He had been trying to summon a Patronus for a long time, only to fail miserably every time. This time, he finally managed to cast the Patronus Charm with a hint of success. But in the end, it was a creature he was very familiar with, yet one that shouldn't quite appear here.
However, this sense of bewilderment was quickly replaced by another feeling. The Pixiu hadn't fully materialized yet; its body was still gradually revealing itself. Dylan watched the process of its body emerging. A thought suddenly rose in his mind
"It's a pleasure to meet you in the material world." This was the first thing Professor Trelawney said during their Divination class this morning. At this very moment, the process of the Pixiu appearing almost confirmed this statement. Because the light emanating from his Patronus's eyes wasn't the light of the material world; it was more like a projection from some spiritual dimension.
The Pixiu landed in front of him, its large head appearing rather clumsy. Seeing Dylan look at it, it grinned broadly, chuckling to itself. Its red tongue poked out. Dylan blinked. "It doesn't seem very clever."
Suddenly, watching the creature pawing at the air with its three-toed beast claws, Dylan was startled again. Wait a minute! Dylan saw the beast's head, its gaping mouth filled with pointed teeth. What should have been a majestic dragon's snout, now had a fluffy, cotton-like substance stuck to the corner of its mouth, resembling a bit of fluff. It actually looked a bit like Ornn.
Wait a second! Dylan immediately leaned in, and after the creature had fully solidified, he examined it up and down. "No, it's not a Pixiu! It's a Poro!" Dylan was shocked to discover that his Patronus was actually a Poro, either wearing a Pixiu costume or having grown into the shape of a Pixiu!
Dylan was stunned for a moment, then slowly recovered. "No wonder it has no butt." He took a slight breath. Dylan smacked his lips. A Poro it was then. In a certain freezing cold region, Poros are considered sacred creatures, representing love, courage, and hope. And a Patronus represents a wizard's spiritual core. So, this also meant he wasn't a greedy person who only took things in; instead, he was a very loving and kind young wizard.
"I knew it! Even with the Basilisk, I only take a little blood every day and peel off a scale every so often. Tom has been tormented by me much less lately. Doesn't this prove that I'm a young wizard with great love?" Dylan was happy again.
Meanwhile, Dylan saw another Hippogriff take off below. Dylan had Sequeel descend a bit and saw that it was Harry. After exchanging greetings with him, Dylan was about to land. However, he saw Malfoy, feeling indignant that Harry had successfully ridden a Hippogriff, try to forcefully make another one cooperate with him, only to be promptly swatted away.
Dylan watched the other party hit a tree like a cannonball, and he couldn't help but gasp. That platinum head was really unlucky! No, Malfoy was the one who provoked it first.
Dylan had already dispelled the Poro by now. Hagrid frantically herded the remaining Hippogriffs back into the opposite thicket. He then picked up the unconscious Malfoy and hurried towards the castle. Any later, who knew if a young wizard would actually die in his class! He certainly didn't want such a serious teaching accident on his first day of class!
Hagrid left for a while, but he couldn't bring the surrounding students' spirits back. They were all terrified. The students who had already interacted with the Hippogriffs were now subtly trembling.
They had actually lost their vigilance towards these dangerous creatures because Dylan was galloping through the air! Thankfully, they maintained enough politeness, unlike that idiot Draco, who truly seemed to have had enough of living, still daring to provoke these big creatures!
Hermione stood with a grim face. Seeing Dylan dismount from Sequeel, she quickly pulled him aside. "Oh my goodness, that was truly dangerous!"
Dylan looked at her: "I thought you'd be quite gleeful seeing Malfoy get swatted."
Hermione's face darkened: "While I don't like him, as a classmate, I don't want to see him die! And to be in close contact with dangerous beasts, it's such a perilous thing. It's fortunate it was Malfoy who got into trouble. What if it had been you or Harry?"
Dylan stared at her blankly. Ron pointed to his nose: "What about me?"
Hermione glanced at him: "What about you?"
"Why are you only concerned about those two?"
Hermione scoffed dismissively: "You didn't go up. When Hagrid called you just now, weren't you scared and hiding behind me?"
"...Look at the blood on the ground, Merlin's pants, I feel like Malfoy might be bedridden for a whole month." Ron looked at the scattered bloodstains on the grass nearby, changing the subject.
Hermione pursed her lips: "This is the wizarding world. Malfoy only sustained physical injuries. Madam Pomfrey will heal him quickly."
Ron: "..." What more could he say?
Just then, Harry also slowly descended on a Hippogriff, the powerful airflow stirring up dust from the ground. As Buckbeak landed steadily on all fours, Harry quickly dismounted. "What happened?" From above, he had seen the mess on the ground, as if something bad had happened, so he quickly flew down. As soon as he landed, he saw winding bloodstains among the grass leaves, rusty red under the scattered light. The sticky blood drops were still fresh, dripping down dandelion stems, splattering dark circles on the soil.
"What's wrong? Is someone hurt?" Harry asked nervously.
Dylan casually told him the situation. Harry then breathed a sigh of relief. However, upon regaining his composure, he was still worried about his classmates' safety and quickly stepped forward to check if they were injured.
"I'm fine, I was up in the air too just now." Dylan watched Harry knead Ron's face into a crumpled ball, and seeing him look his way, immediately spoke up.
"Oh, right, I guess so." Harry realized, then walked towards Hermione.
"I'm fine too." Hermione pushed Harry's hand away.
Dylan then walked towards Buckbeak, who was nearby. This startled Hermione and Ron.
"Hey! Dylan, what are you doing? Be careful! They're dangerous!"
"Don't worry, these little guys aren't that strong yet." Dylan's voice drifted back, leaving Hermione and the others baffled.
Ron muttered, bewildered, in a low voice: "Didn't he see Malfoy get severely beaten?"
Hermione was silent for a moment, then sighed: "Dylan's abilities are far beyond ours. We really don't need to worry about him."
Dylan approached the Hippogriff Harry had just ridden. "Hello there, Yabijiong... I mean, Buckbeak."
(? ) Buckbeak paused, tilting its head. This young wizard who could even ride Sequeel seemed different from other humans. It was about to respond as Hagrid had instructed, since the young wizard had greeted it. But just as it was preparing to bow to Dylan, the other party didn't continue interacting with it and turned to walk towards the thicket.
Buckbeak: (●°u°●)」
"Riiiii..." It pawed its front hooves. Hermione, Ron, and the other young wizards stared blankly.
Dylan arrived at the thicket. After stepping past it, he saw the group of Hippogriffs Hagrid had just herded in. "Hey, little ones." Dylan nodded to the other Hippogriffs, then walked in front of Sequeel.
"Riiiii?" Sequeel looked at Dylan, its golden eyes filled with confusion. His human companion had just been knocked away, and he wasn't angry? He didn't seem scared either. That part, it found normal.
"Here, these are high-quality meat strips. My pets and owl love them. You should try some too." Dylan took out a large handful of meat strips and placed them in front of Sequeel. "You can share them with your friends. Sharing is a wonderful thing, and I'm very happy to share."
"Riiiii!" The moment Dylan pulled out the dried meat, Sequeel was captivated by the aroma and cried out. The nearby Hippogriffs also craned their necks over, but still didn't approach.
"You eat first. I'm going back now I'll come see you again next time, don't worry soon." Dylan was still thinking about whether he could sneak a few Hippogriffs into his pet space. So he decided. When he saw Hagrid later, he could agree to meet him in the small forest tonight.
