Author's Pov
Moving out of the building, David followed James, wondering why he had moved out so hastily without even checking the location or knowing where to go, but later found out that he had already collected a detailed map and plan for the mission.
As for when he collected it David couldn't figure that out and decided to leave it be.
They left the building and then walked to a car a short distance away, while James retrieved a key, walked to the car, and entered.
David followed after him without asking about anything just choosing to keep silent while James drove over to the destination while whistling.
"Hey bro, how do you feel about your first mission? Feeling excited?"
Thinking of what James said, David thought about it and couldn't deny that he did feel excited about the whole stuff.
Before the little accident that gave him his abilities he was just a normal guy after all and even though it might seem like a long time it was just a week since his early morning test that changed everything.
Before the test, he was just living his life like an otaku with no dreams, goals or anything.
To be honest, even he himself was surprised by the transition in his attitude prior and after. The event that led to him gaining his abilities made him harbor thoughts like 'what if I could change my life?', 'what if I could make myself a lot better than this, than before?'
"I am excited, but not much, it's just a scouting mission after all"
James smacked his lips and replied "You sure sound confident, I heard your ability is related to electricity right?"
David nodded his head and replied "Yes, it gives some extra strength and speed and a little ability to control electricity"
"I sure envy you, your ability is way too diverse, for me? My ability is thoroughly focused on speed and speed alone, I have nothing other than that"
David looked at him in confusion and asked "Speed is also a good thing right?"
James just shrugged his shoulders and said "Sure being fast is good and all but against someone with diverse powers like you, you I don't really stand a chance at the same level. The best I can really do is to run."
"You could also devise some methods to turn your speed into strength right? Like the force behind your speed increases force and all?"
James nodded and said "Yup, I've thought of all that also and the conclusion still remains the same I really can't fight one on one but when it comes to escaping I am the best in that category"
David just nodded and didn't say anything else. After a while they got to their destination and when they got to the guards James just pulled out a card and showed it to them and they were granted access without any further questions.
After their car drove off one of the guards asked from his partner in confusion "The wildlife has been pretty hectic recently with all the missing cases there and when the higher-ups decide to send over and investigative party they send two kids over?"
"Just focus on your job, besides it's not all that scary, just two missing cases, it happens often when people cross their boundaries in a place as dangerous as this. Although it's quite rare, perhaps once in a year it still happens. It doesn't mean something is eating them up inside"
The first guard nodded but then said with a bitter expression on his face "But I think they are taking it a bit too easy, two people missing should warranty a wide search through the wildlife right? If it was some rich heir they would've felt the pain by now"
The second guard just shrugged and said "That's none of our concern, its how they choose to deal with it so leave them be"
After driving for a while, James stopped the car and stepped down, David also stepped down from the car after him.
Taking in a deep breath, the air around was clean and refreshing, it looked like this was the importance of having green life all around far away from the buzzing of the city and the pollutions all around.
James on the other hand, looked around for a while then said "Wait here for a minute let me check around for clues and don't ask me why you're not coming with me, you're too slow."
David felt speechless until James suddenly took off from his position and turned into a blur leaving David behind with his mouth wide open.
"How is that a little speed? This is simply ridiculous, even though I also have high speed and reflexes I can barely trace out his position."
He took in a deep breath and made an immediate resolution "I am taking his ability for sure"
