Chapter 24 - Uncle Sirius' Dreamscape

The planet was large and covered in blue-green water. A large door appeared and slowly opened. In the doorway was a pool of opalescence. Hazel walked out of this pool, causing it to only ripple slightly. Her father stepped out soon after, without a single ripple. Hazel frowned. The rippling meant that the traveler somehow disturbed the dimensional threads connecting dimensions. This was not really an issue but the disturbance could alert others to your presence and a good traveler could track exactly where you entered the dimension.

Hazel looked down at the water planet and smiled. This was her first time visiting Merk Dimension, or the sixth explored dimension. This dimension had 12 planets that revolved around two suns. The water planet was the most explored planet. It had merpeople, Kappa (a water dwelling creature that looked like a monkey with scales), scarla (essentially magical blue dolphins that could manipulate water and air), and warns shape shifting sea dwellers.

This was her second test for her advancement in her traveler magics. She had done okay with some slight issues, the ripple in the dimensional pool being one. But Montague McGonagall was proud. He looked out across the great water planet and saw nothing but marvelous things for his daughter.

He cleared his throat as he tried to be stern. "We need to talk about how you walk across dimensions. I do not understand dreamwalking but I have to assume it is similar in some way. Explain it to me."

Hazel scrunched her face in thought. "We dreamwalking is an act of the soul and the will. You will things into being and you maintain that with your soul. If your soul is weak you can not maintain the walk. If your will is weak you can not even begin your walk."

Her father looked at her blankly for a long moment and cleared his throat again.

"Well. It is nothing like dreamwalking. Okay. Walking the dimensions is not physical and you use your soul but not to maintain your walk just to center and define yourself so that you do not become lost. Your will has nothing to do with it and if you force your will while you are on a dimensional walk you draw attention to yourself and you can potentially change the dynamic of the dimension."

Hazel nodded in understanding.

"Do you think that Hazel is okay?"

"How many times are you going to ask that Marcel. She has a way to alert Harry and if he doesn't get the alert she can alert Hermione and myself." Evervine looked to Harry then Hermione. "Has anyone gotten alerted."

"No" They both responded flatly.

"But isn't this man dangerous?"

This question gave Harry pause. The entire Wizarding world on his planet believed so but Hazel believed rest he was not. He had to trust his sister.

"I am not sure, but I have to trust Hazel and her instincts."

Hermione nodded. "We all do. And we are here on the dreamscape waiting for her. If she calls and says she needs help we need to be ready to help her in any way."

They all sat quietly for a long moment when Ron spoke.

"They always tell the story of crazy Sirius the Traitorous. The maddest Deatheater of them all."

"Deatheater?"

"That's what that horrid man called his subordinates. It was just an intimidation tactic. But they were actually horrible people was well. Usually operating behind masks." Evervine harrumphed at her own words. "It just means that they were horrible cowards."

Hazel was walking one of the oddest dreamscapes she had ever seen. She understood almost immediately why it was so. This man was tormenting himself over what had happened to the Potters.

Hazel had begun separating herself from the idea that she had been anything other than a McGonagall. She had happened to overhear a conversation between her parents and they were both worried about her being involved with Harry and being in danger. They also worried that she would want to leave the family somehow.

She had stopped talking to them about Harry and she did not talk about dreamwalking much anymore.

Sirius' dreamscape was a chaotic mess of shapes, landscapes, colors and textures. It was like his emotions were going in so many different directions that he did not understand any part of them.

It was probably difficult to actually walk his dreamscape because he from time to time orientation and perception was so skewed that top, bottom, left, and right truly seemed to have no meaning.

Hazel merely walked as her discernment led and ignored the visual clues of the dreamscape. If someone were to observe her there they would think she walked on the ground, then the sky and then at right degree angles perpendicular to both.

It was a bit mind numbing.

She had been searching for a way to speak with Sirius for a few days. His dreamscape was disconnected from the collective dream consciousness and they no longer had a deep connection. That thought made her pause. They had shared memories and by focusing on them she could find him or even bring him to her.

She focused on the memory and projected it outward. The dreamscape reverberated around her like a microscope adjusting it's focus to see an object better. She stepped forward and she was in an old house. In the front room sat a man with long black lanky hair. He was looking at the floor as if in deep thought.

"This is where we used to come. The four of us. We were great friends. Great friends. At least we all thought that we were."

He looked up at her, his face hard and devastating one moment and soft and kind the next. He smiled.

"You look just like your mother. Well almost. You have your father's eyes. He was my best friend you know?"

He looked away and she came to sit near him.

"I know. How can we get you out of here."

He laughed softly. "You are just like her. Bold and fearless."

She stood abruptly, the dreamscape quaking. Sirius looked about then narrowed his eyes and looked at her with a slight smile.

"My mother is Minerva McGonagall. I am sorry. I can not disrespect or deny her.'

Sirius nodded. "Understood. How do plan on helping me."

She looked at himself seriously. "I will distracted the Dementors and you will walk out."

He found himself smiling again. This powerful self-confident witch just might do what she says she will do.
