Chapter 285: Joining Forces
Sabo stared coldly at the head poking out of the black shadow on the ground, his heart inevitably on guard.
The enemy had been hiding in Koala's shadow all this time, and yet he had not sensed any presence at all.
It wasn't until Koala left that the remaining shadow had caught his attention!
"The Revolutionary Army's second-in-command, Chief of Staff Sabo..."
The shadow, like a viscous liquid, slowly lifted Reiner's head and condensed into his form.
"No need to be so fierce on our first meeting. I'm sure you've noticed the abnormality; I am not the real body."
Reiner paid no mind to the other's hostile gaze, crossed his arms, and leaned against the wall, saying calmly, "This island is quite lively this time. The situation for you revolutionaries doesn't seem very good."
"A pirate like you has no need to worry about that. State your purpose directly. You're probably not here for a fight." Sabo's tone was still not the least bit polite.
Reiner's tracking had made him a little annoyed, but he quickly calmed down.
The other had not taken the opportunity to launch a sneak attack, but had actively revealed his identity after Koala left. It was clear that, at least for now, the other had no hostile intentions.
The situation on the island was complicated now; he shouldn't provoke more enemies.
"I wasn't here for you either. It was a coincidence," Reiner said lightly.
After finishing his match and returning to the resting room, he had not gone to regroup with Luffy and the others, but had instead infiltrated the interior to search for the location of the Devil Fruit.
He certainly didn't think the other party would just hand over the Devil Fruit. The arena was just a facade, but Reiner didn't know yet who this facade was meant to attract.
He had just happened to run into Koala. He didn't recognize her, but seeing her acting furtively, he had used an undead to sneak into her shadow and follow.
He had also seen the scene of Sabo and Luffy meeting. The two of them, each in disguise, did not recognize each other.
Even though he's carrying such a conspicuous weapon as a giant water pipe...
He probably hasn't recovered his memory.
Reiner glanced at Sabo and asked tentatively, "Why did you help Luffy just now?"
"Luffy..."
Sabo was stunned for a second. Did he not expect Reiner to be here for this matter?
Strangely, he usually heard 'Straw Hat' from others. Now, hearing Reiner call him by his name, Luffy, inexplicably made his heart tighten.
He must have lost some memory, but he couldn't remember what it was he had lost.
Sabo replied casually, "It was nothing. After all, he is our leader's son."
Ugh, I almost forgot about that.
Reiner came to his senses. The father and son had basically no interaction, so it was easy for him to forget.
"You probably didn't reveal yourself just to ask this," Sabo asked again.
"Of course," Reiner got straight to the point. "How about we cooperate? Our goals don't conflict. If we join forces, we can completely suppress the Marines and the Donquixote Family."
It was unlikely that the Marines would cooperate with the Donquixote Family, but their relationship with pirates and revolutionaries was like fire and water.
Whether it was the Marines or the Donquixote Family, they were all enemies of Reiner's group and Sabo's.
"Cooperate?"
Sabo murmured, still not letting down his guard, and said in a deep voice:
"Let's not talk about what your purpose is, or whether I can trust you. Even if we join forces, it's not very realistic to completely suppress these two forces."
"You should have heard just now, the forces dispatched by the Marines are far beyond a normal operation..."
Halfway through, Sabo suddenly paused, remembering what Koala had just said about the Whitebeard Pirates landing.
Those two pirate captains are brothers, right?
"When you say join forces, you mean..."
"Ah, of course, that includes the Whitebeard crew. They're here for the Tremor-Tremor Fruit, which doesn't conflict with your operation."
Reiner nodded and spoke directly. "Your goal is to liberate Dressrosa, and the large amount of weapons and supplies in the underground factory, and incidentally, the Float-Float Fruit..."
Damn, you guys are pretty greedy.
Saying that, Reiner couldn't help but give Sabo a disdainful look.
"Our captain has also befriended that down-and-out princess. He probably wants to help her too. As for the Devil Fruit and the things in the underground factory, he's not interested at all."
Reiner spread his hands and chuckled. "You each take what you need, and we can also easily deal with the Marines' pursuit and escape successfully. A three-way cooperation is beneficial and harmless to all."
"To have already divided the spoils before they're even won... you're quite confident."
Sabo took off his mask and looked straight into Reiner's eyes, saying teasingly, "It sounds very tempting. Cooperation is indeed possible. But I have one question: what about you?"
The legendary Black Snake Reiner's ambition is this small?
He definitely didn't believe it.
"Me?" Reiner smiled. He knew what Sabo was implying.
Of course, I'll bide my time, wait for you guys to fight, and then reap the benefits. Once the two Devil Fruits and the Admiral's template are in my pocket, I'll just take my teammates and run, you bastard!
Reiner cursed viciously in his heart.
Perhaps it's because he's spent less time with Luffy. Sabo, unlike Ace, hasn't had his brain completely polluted.
Or did the amnesia eliminate the source of pollution?
In any case, he wasn't easy to fool.
"As expected of the Chief of Staff of the Revolutionary Army. I'll be honest with you."
Since he was suspected, Reiner had to throw out some bait. He said to Sabo:
"For pirates who have no fixed abode on the sea, the Float-Float Fruit is of little use. The Tremor-Tremor Fruit is not bad. Let's take one each."
"Also, the property of the Donquixote Family... money is not convenient for you guys who are always hiding. And a large amount of weapons is of little use to us."
Reiner smiled. "I'll take the money, you take the supplies. No problem, right?"
A cooperation with terms that were too good made Sabo suspicious. It was much more reasonable if both sides gave something up.
As for the Whitebeard crew, let them go drink the northwest wind.
This time, Sabo was silent. Although the risk of betrayal was great, he could see the current situation clearly.
The Straw Hat crew and the Whitebeard crew were definitely on the same side, without a doubt.
On the Marines' side, two Admirals and so many powerful officers... even the revolutionaries would have a hard time dealing with that.
The Donquixote side was backed by Kaido. It was still unclear if he had sent anyone over.
Without cooperation, their side would be isolated and helpless. No matter how you looked at it, they were the weaker side and would not gain any advantage.
Sabo was tempted, but the distrust in his eyes still hadn't diminished in the slightest.
Straw Hat was Dragon's son, but the father and son were not walking the same path, after all. It wasn't that he didn't trust him, but more importantly, there was Reiner.
This person gave him a very sinister feeling. And for such a good thing to be offered to him, Sabo had to be a little wary.
"Hey, hey, hey, no way. You're still hesitating?"
"My captain and your leader are father and son. And Robin, didn't she stay with you guys for a while? We can be considered half-family, can't we?"
Reiner was a little speechless. Are you being overly cautious? Are people in this world so indifferent to the father-son relationship?
Or am I really that untrustworthy?
"Forget it. I heard that perverted okama is here. You can ask his opinion."
"Ivankov?"
Sabo was stunned for a moment, then he remembered that two years ago, Ivankov had also participated in the Summit War and had fought side by side with the Straw Hat crew.
Later, Ivankov had returned to the Okama Island. In the turmoil of the New World these past two years, he himself had also been running around everywhere and hadn't had much contact with Iva.
"I understand."
Thinking of this, Sabo finally relaxed his guard a little. "Tell me your plan first. If it's feasible, we'll cooperate."
"So cautious," Reiner scoffed, but since they could cooperate, he said directly:
"I remember you have an army commander with a gopher or some fruit, right? The one who can dig tunnels."
"Later, we'll do this, and then that..."
"I see."
After hearing Reiner, Sabo nodded in agreement. "Let's plan it like this for now. My match is coming up. We'll talk again later."
"Mm, I'm off," Reiner waved his hand, turned into black mud, and sank into the shadow, leaving.
Just as he left, a hole was suddenly opened in the wall, revealing a large, fat, round face with a curly beard.
Morley held a trident in his hand and, with his mouth open, let out a sharp, angry cry that didn't match his appearance:
"That bastard! He actually called me a gopher! Rude! So rude!"
