Lily’s chest heaved as she stared up at Zayn, his words echoing in her mind. Her hands trembled as she reached for his arm, desperate to find the man she knew was still in there somewhere.
“Don’t touch me!” Zayn snapped, jerking away.
Lily shook her head frantically. She raised her hands, moving to sign rapidly. She tried to reach him through the only means she had left.
‘Please, Zayn. This isn’t you.’
Her signing only enraged him further. She could see the disgust and annoyance in his eyes. He was clenching his jaw tightly, knuckles strained and turning white.
“Even now, you defy me,” he growled, moving toward the far corner of the cave.
Lily’s eyes widened as her blood ran cold. The distinct sound of chains dragged across the stone floor echoed through the cave. She recognized it instantly. This was the same sound she’d heard the night of the full moon.
