Chapter 18 - Second Mission: Redemption - Part 1

Henry walked through the door of FBI HQ. He spotted by Bowman, marching towards him.

"Good morning, Agent Bowman," he greeted her.

"It's noon," she replied flatly. "What are you doing here?"

"Don't you want to know about Aleen Leon?" Henry said.

"No," Bowman answered. "Get out."

"I'll tell you all about my dealings from her," he added. "The pins to offshore accounts. Everything."

Bowman sighed, shaking her head. "Fine. Come in."

__________

The girls enter the study, apprehensive. Jaiden turned, still disheveled.

"Woah," Laila blinked, off guard by the smell.

"What happened here?" Jada asked, spying the bottles littering the ground.

"I let myself go," Jaiden replied, fishing for a cigar.

"That's an understatement," Laila muttered.

"Enough of small talk," Jaiden said, lighting it. "Head to the Federal Bureau of Investigation Headquarters. You will infiltrate and extract. Nothing more."

"Excuse me?" Laila blinked, surprised. Jaiden took a puff.

"We're infiltrating the FBI?" Jada repeated. "Is that legal?"

"Hold on a damn minute," Laila cut in. "You can't ignore us all morning and then summon us at 4:00 to send us on some damn mission!"

Jaiden's hand clenched into a fist. His jaw tightened. His gaze narrowed. He retro haled deeply.

"Who the hell do you think you are?" Laila snapped. "To treat us this way?"

"You'll get your apology," he spoke flatly. "Now do you want to continue to test my patience?"

Laila stepped back, seeing the dangerous glint in his eyes. "No sir."

Jada and Ciema turned, mouths agape.

"A miracle has just happened," Jada breathed, smiling.

"This is your redemption," Jaiden muttered. "Go now!"

Jada and Laila shuffled out the door while Ciema lingered.

Ciema pointed. "You are aware cigar smoking is also bad for your health right?"

Jaiden chuckled. "I don't smoke as much as I drink."

"Oh lovely," Ciema replied. "You'll die of liver disease before lung cancer."

Jaiden laughed, tapping the end. Ash fell on the desk.

"Glad to see you're better," Ciema added softly.

"I had to be chided from my state," Jaiden shook his head. "What a boss I am?"

"Yeah," Ciema smiled. "What a boss."

She turned to leave. Jaiden snuffed out the cigar.

_________

In the basement, the girls open their suitcase.

Each suitcase contained form-fitting catsuits with black heeled boots and gloves. A belt that had five pouches containing explosives and other gadgets. There were hip holsters for pistols, leg holsters for combat knives.

"Alright," Laila said, taking her out.

"Will this even fit me?" Ciema frowned.

Jada giggle as she zipped the front zip.

"Wow," Laila scoffed. "You got in fast."

Ciema spotted her discarded bra. "Jada, why did you take off your bra?"

"It's a catsuit," Jada shrugged. "I don't need a bra, do I?"

"You are brave," Laila laughed.

Ciema scoffed. "That's one way to describe it."

"Amazons, focus," Mr. Mace said. "You will be taking this."

The spotlight beamed on an altered Lenco BearCat. The tires were Michelin XZL.

Laila whistled, zipping her suit up. Ciema slipped into her suit.

"This will be your primary mode of transportation," he explained. "It contains various gear and weapons. As well as a motorcycle built into the vehicle."

"Dibs on the cycle," Laila grinned.

"He really is Batman," Jada muttered.

"Good luck, Amazons," Mr. Mace smiled.

"This is really happening," Laila exhaled.

"You know, I had a bucket list," Jada began.

Laila turned to her, eyebrow raised.

"I was young," Jada protested. "And a fever was scary."

Laila rolled her eyes, a smile on her face.

"Anyway," she continued. "On my bucket list, infiltrating the FBI was not on it."

"Well cross it off," Ciema said, zipping her suit up. "Because it's happening."

The Amazons approached the vehicle with purpose.

Jada circled to the driver's side.

"I trusted you with the convertible driving," Laila said. "You better not kill us."

Jada laughed, saluting her. "I won't."

"Jada," Mr. Mace called.

Jada turned, her smile fading.

In his arms was Chi Chi, barking happily.

Jada ran towards the dog, taking it gently from Mr. Mace's hands.

"You precious doll," she sobbed, blinking back tears. "I promise I'll return to you in one piece."

"What about us?" Laila yelled.

"If we still have a head," Jada hollered back. "You're still Laila."

Laila frowned, hands firmly on one hip. "The hell you just say?"

"Kidding," Jada giggled. She handed the Pomchi over to Mr. Mace. "Goodbye."

She turned, running back to the truck.

Jada climbed inside, Laila following. Ciema tapped a button at the back of the truck. The door swung open. Ciema crawled in, sitting down on the bench presented.

In front were many screens on display, showing the interior and exterior on the truck.

"Cool," she whispered.

Mr. Mace stepped back as the roll-up garage door raised up.

Lights along the driveway lit up inside and outside. Jada turned the key. The engine roared to life.

The truck's Infotainment System turned on. T.I.F.F.A.N.Y.'s face popped up, greeting the girls with a loud, "Hello!"

Jada yelped and Laila shot a glare.

"You know how long I've been waiting for this?" T.I.F.F.A.N.Y. spoke. "Woo, I'm about to make a name for myself here. "

"She's quoting Gambit," Jada grinned.

"You make sure people know what happened here," she added. "And you get outta here, you have a drink for me, yeah?"

"You're not the one who's risking her life," Laila countered.

Jada hit the pedal. The truck lurched forward, earning a scream of terror from Laila.

The truck drove up the incline and landed hard on the driveway. Jada turned the wheel, careful not to overturn the truck.

It zoomed through the gate, hurriedly turning into the road.

Jada glanced at Laila. Laila slowly turned, chest rising and falling.

"Do you ever listen to me?" Laila snapped. "What kind of driving was that?"

"Sorry," Jada giggled.

"We're gonna die," Laila muttered. "We ain't never making it to Washington."

"Don't be so melodramatic," T.I.F.F.A.N.Y. cut in. Her face was switched to GPS, showing a clear pathway from Port Washington to Washington D.C.

"Four hours?" Jada smirked. "Yee haw!"

Laila braced as Jada hit the pedal.

__________

Henry sat down. Bowman sat opposite him. He glanced at the huge mirror at the side.

"How quaint," he smirked.

"You are entitled to a lawyer," Bowman advised.

"I won't need any," Henry answered. "I freely tell you everything."

Her supervising SSA, Agent Miller, stormed in on the mirrored side.

"What the hell is Bowman doing?" He snapped.

"Getting answers about Aleen Leon," Agent Hubbard spoke.

Miller froze. "Oh. I thought she was still obsessed about Jaiden. Like her old man."

"Not this time," Hubbard clarified. "Although I wish she was. That Amazon needs to pay for last time."

"The first offshore account is sent in Nigeria," Henry began. "Aleen has friends there. Powerful friends. She felt it necessary to start in a country where the FBI wouldn't suspect. The pin is 45890."

Bowman snapped her fingers. An agent entered, carting a pen and notebook.

He placed it on the table, then quickly left the room.

"Start again?" Bowman said, clicking the pen.

"45890," he repeated with a smile. "Next's one in Italy. The pin's 87321."

Bowman scribbled it down.

____________

Ciema pressed a button, the wall giving way to various guns and explosives.

"Dart gun," she pondered aloud, taking it.

"How much further?" Laila huffed, staring out the window.

"Almost," Jada gritted, weaving in and out of traffic.

"Washington's lovely this time of year," T.I.F.F.A.N.Y. sighed.

"So is prison," Laila grumbled. "Because that's where we're going. Locked up with our crazy boss. Trapped with crazier people, likely enemies of his."

"Oh, c'mon Laila," Jada grinned. "Isn't this fun?"

Laila tensed.

"What's wrong?" Jada asked.

"Ray used to say that," Laila replied.

"Ray?"

"A friend of mine at the Gym," Laila explained. "She and her grandpa Chuck were my boxing coaches. They supported me in my deranged pursuit to join the UFC."

"Oh right," Jada nodded.

"So you saying it..." She smiled at the memory. "It's what she used to chant when I got in the ring with Chad."

"Ha. Chad," Jada chuckled.

"I feel like utter shit," Laila groaned. "Our last conversation — bad words were said."

"After this," Jada assured her. "You can apologize to her."

"I will," Laila nodded. She smiled at Jada. "You can come with me."

"Oh, I don't know," Jada shrugged, lightly chuckling.

"Focus on the road," T.I.F.F.A.N.Y. cut in, glancing between the two. "I'm loving the bonding, but people are about to die."

"Right," Jada grinned.

Laila frowned. "T.I.F.F.A.N.Y., honestly, f— "

Jada honked the horn, censoring the word.

Laila turned to Jada. Jada sheepishly grinned. "Oops."

Ciema, in the trunk, shook her head. Then her mind began to race.

"The bombs had to have been activated remotely," Ciema pondered. She remembered the high pitch whistle before the countdown at the Hexcorp HQ.

"How can we disarm that? I'll have to figure it out later."

"Welcome to Washington D.C!" Jada cheered, as they passed by the sign.

__________

A truck pulled to the side of J. Edgar Hoover Building. Basil Papadopoulos hopped out, dressed as a delivery man. His brothers Yiannis and Basil, similarly dressed, got out.

Moving to the back, they opened the trunks. Inside were hundreds of black crates. Sliding one out, they popped the lid open.

Their eyes were greeted with many decahedron-shaped bombs. The Papadopoulos Brothers exchanged glances.

The lid was slammed shut

Back in the interrogation room, Henry added, "...I wasn't blessed, unlike Jaiden, with intermediate wealth. Aleen Leon came to me and spun me webs of possibility."

"So you took it?" Bowman asked.

"Precisely," Henry smiled.

"Wow," Bowman nodded. "You have no integrity. I mean, you fire employees at the drop of a hat, and refuse to pay them. But this is a new low."

"Yeah well," Henry continued. "I was a street rat. Brilliant but dreamed of success. I was certain the money was dirty but my desire for wealth outplayed my morality."

"Jaiden would never," Bowman snapped. "He and I don't see eye to eye but we wouldn't have done what you do."

He tilted his head. "So it's true. Jaiden's running his personal secret service?"

Miller pinched his nose. "Oh boy."

Bowman slammed her palms on the desk. "What he's done is completely unethical and he will atone, but you are on another scale of filth. His Amazons, unfortunately, have done more good for this planet than you have in your entire life."

Henry's smile soured into a frown. "You-"

"Now," Bowman cut in, sitting down. "Back to your rags to riches story. Unless, that's all and we can arrest you now."

"It's not all," he grumbled.

________

It was 9:25 p.m.

The Lenco BearCat pulled into a side street. Jada put the van in 'Park'. The two hopped out, confident.

Ciema pressed the hidden button on floor. Inside were many disguises in cases. She picked out the SWAT case.

The back door opened. Jada and Laila stood waiting. Ciema tossed them the suitcases. Jada and Laila opened them, wrapping the vests around them.

"Velcro," Laila observed, eyeing the tear-away trousers. "Nice."

"Here," Ciema whispered, tossing them grapple guns.

Laila eyed the weapon, then glared at Ciema. "I see you've taken after Mr. Mace."

"You wanna get shot?" Ciema hissed, slipping her earpiece in her ear. "Be my guess."

She fixed her vest and trousers, then placed the helmet on her head. Laila and Jada also affixed their earpieces. Then adjusted their helmets.

"Amazons," Ciema ordered. "Move out."

With M4 carbines raised, they advanced towards the building.
