Chapter Fifteen
Professionalism.
The next day, Emily walked into the building, she entered Liam's office to deliver his usual coffee and set his schedule for the day. When she was done ahead, tip top out of his office. She wasn't ready to face him yet. She stopped as she heard his voice from behind her.
"What we had last night was nothing" He said looking her in the eye as she averted her gaze facing the corner of the room.
"Omg, why does he keep staring at me"
" As long as you keep performing your job here at Glam's enterprises then I am willing to work with you and what happened yesterday was as a result of your negligence you couldn't control your desire for your boss, are you always easily carried away by every one you come in contact with". He said coldly.
"I want professionalism always and this shouldn't interfere with work at all, I need you to put it all behind and focus on the wellbeing, growth and development of Glams enterprises". He exclaimed.
"A flinch can't ruin all I have worked for, we are both professionals and should continue to maintain high professionalism while at work, you obviously can't keep avoiding me you work for me remember" . He said authoritatively.
"I value your professionalism and dedication to your work but I understand that what must have happened between the both of us has created an uncomfortable atmosphere".He said as he opened the front door widely.
" I really value my work here sir, I am not going to let anything jeopardise it. We need a common ground and moving forward will be best for both of us without letting it affect our work, I totally agree".
"Yes, sir we need to maintain professionalism and find a way to put this between us behind us, I promise Sir, I won't let you down ever again. I would be responsible for all my misconduct and bad behaviour. I am not going to let my personal matters interfere with work".Emily said and kept her thin nose high and angled away when he closed the door behind her.
She had listened intensively to get the whole message of what he was saying. She couldn't believe her ears. He had used and dumped her. She frowned in confusion and shook her head in unbelief. She expected so much from someone who hasn't officially asked her to even be his girlfriend.
" Thank you Emily, in the meantime let's focus on the task at hand the successful launching of the new project in the market, you can leave now, I have some work to do, I decided to talk to you because you can't obviously keep ignoring the elephant in the room" He said coldly.
A few moments later, a young lady wearing a white dress and matching high heels entered the room. She smiled when she saw Liam.
" You are more beautiful each time I set my eyes on you".Liam walked towards her when she stepped in. Holding her hands tightly he ushered her in "come sit next to me". She sat next to him, that's when the lady looked up and realised someone else was in the room. She whispered something into Liam's ear who grinned when he looked at Emily's confused gaze.
She fought back tears, and a sense of dread set in. "He already had someone in his life, what was she thinking allowing herself to fall in love with him". She whispered under her breath. She had been stupid, she admitted. She thought about quitting the job but couldn't consider how difficult it is to get a good paying job plus she had a new project to work on which Graham's is depending on her to make it work.
She slammed the door behind her and screamed out loud. She wasn't going mentally insane and it wasn't her plan at all. Things were moving in a direction she wasn't used to. She had been caught up in a situationship with her boss.
A one night affair and losing her virginity in the process. How did she get entangled in this mess? She made up her mind to clear things appropriately between both of them. Her heart was shattered into a million tiny pieces. Liam has shown her he doesn't want to be with her. Emily holds her chest as it hurts, neglected and still in love with him. She shook her head in disbelief and fought back tears desperately from her eyes.
Alice walked in with files concerning the new project. "Graham's company sent them this morning to you concerning Coco pops cereals".
" Thank you, you can leave them at the desk".
" Are you alright, you don't look cheerful this morning, which seems odd, and not any curiosity about work which is unlike the usual Emily I used to know".
"I am fine, I just didn't sleep well last night" She lied. How could she tell Alice about what happened yesterday? She wanted to talk to someone but revealing it to Alice wouldn't be her best choice.
"Okay, I see, be careful with the boss I see the way he looks at you, and you already know he isn't interested in settling down despite his parents constant pressure on him, he has decided to be a playboy".
" Really, I didn't notice" She lied again, she couldn't afford to take it in. Liam had his way with her and she couldn't believe that he had no shame to bring another lady in her present.
"Okay, I see you seem to be so dedicated that you don't see the way he looks at you, I am sure you are next in line to be his plaything if you don't keep things as professional as you are supposed to."
"Thank you Alice, I would love to get back to work if you don't mind," Emily said as she tried to get her out of her office. Alice has no plans to stop ranting about her boss. Emily bowed her head, at the office. What will be her fate when everyone finds out that she slept with her boss? How will she be able to face the world with this feeling of shame and live with it? She shook her head, nobody is going to know if she doesn't tell them and it doesn't happen again. But again, walls have ears. She shut down her system, she doesn't feel like working today.
