The items inside the magical loot box ranged in type and quality, and each could have different effects. Some might be more useful to Kayn, while others would not.
Either way, it was worth a shot. He needed something that might help him get stronger, and getting a decent item was the quickest way.
So, Kayn prayed. He opened the loot box, staring at the items in front of him. He spotted rings, necklaces, earrings, and even weapons!
The effects of each item were still unknown to him. Kayn would only know what they did after he got them, so the anxiety was creeping out of his bones, and his breathing was irregular, like when he was doing some exercise.
"Please be something good," he prayed internally.
When the loot box finally stopped, Kayn saw that it landed on a ring. That was not exactly what he was hoping for. The best-case scenario would have been a tier S weapon that could make even the weakest person strong.
But when he read the effects of the ring, as well as its grade, well, it wasn't that bad.
[Ring of the Five (B Rank)]
[Description: Adds 15 flat points to all attributes.]
The ring gave him 15 points to all stats! Well, the only problem was that Kayn didn't know how to see his stats.
He searched through his system, trying to find where it showed his stats or something. Kayn found it.
[Strength: 5 (+15)]
[Agility: 7 (+15)]
[Vigor: 3 (+15)]
[Intelligence: 1 (+15)]
[Charisma: 3 (+15)]
Kayn looked at it and frowned.
"Why is my intelligence so low? I mean, I ain't stupid, right?" he thought.
His system wasn't exactly like a game system. Kayn had attributes, but there was no way for him to use free points to increase them, and he didn't have a level.
It was more like the stats were a way for him to see his current power level. That was nice because he could actually see how much of a difference the items made.
The ring, for example, granted him 15 points in each attribute, and seeing how low his base attributes were, well, the ring did wonders for him.
Kayn felt the power run through his veins the moment he placed the ring on his finger. The ring was all black with a single stone in it, and the stone had multiple colors, indicating the five stats that it granted.
The slime was really surprised by it.
"How did you get this ring? I mean, can your power summon anything? I've never seen anything like this," the slime said.
Summoning a magical creature was one thing, but an enchanted ring? The slime was pretty sure no one else could do something like that.
Kayn whispered, "Yeah, sort of. Do you think this will make a big difference?"
He didn't know how he would compare against other warriors now that he had equipped the ring. The only way for him to know was to know their powers to compare them to his own.
But luckily for him, the slime knew.
"I think you can fight against a third-core warrior and have a chance of winning."
Rahka was a fifth-core warrior, so that was out of the question. The slime also stated that he had a chance of winning, so it wasn't 100%. But that was a start!
That was all thanks to the flat stats of the ring he had just gotten. Kayn was still in the early stages, not even reaching the second-core, so having the power to fight against a third-core warrior while being in the first-core was just too good to be true.
"That's good to hear," he said, his voice low so that Len didn't hear him. "Now I should focus on reaching the second-core. That will make my combat power increase drastically, right?"
"Yes, though you'll still be a shitty warrior, but at least you won't die to a kid."
"…"
The slime wasn't the type of creature to offer compliments. No matter what Kayn did, he always got a hard time from that slime. Not that he minded. The slime had proven to be quite helpful and would certainly aid him in the foreseeable future.
When he left his room to get something to eat, Len was there as well, sitting on the fur rug in the living room. He noticed how Kayn looked stronger than usual, and he also saw the ring on his hand.
"A ring?" he asked.
Kayn raised his hand to look at the ring. "Oh, yes. It belonged to my family, and now I feel like I can use it here. You know, I didn't want to use it before knowing everyone here was nice."
That wasn't a strange act. Kayn was an outsider, so if he appeared with a ring that looked expensive, well, they might want to steal it. The story he made up was enough to make Len believe it.
But when Rahka returned home after searching the area where the farmer went missing, he frowned. "How are you so much stronger?"
Rahka moved closer to Kayn and touched the ring he was wearing. "It's because of this. Where did you find it?"
"It belongs to my family," he said. "Why? Is something wrong?"
"No, nothing is wrong. It's just that this item is quite decent. Don't lose it, kid."
After saying that, Rahka went to the counter in his kitchen and looked for a drink. He had some aged wine stored, and he wanted to drink it.
Kayn could see there was something bothering Rahka, but he didn't want to ask. He waited until Rahka said something.
"I was there where they took the farmer," he said. "He was a friend of mine since I was a kid… Bastards!" Rahka punched the wooden table.
He was really angry about that whole situation. It wasn't every day that a friend got kidnapped by a nearby tribe.
"Do you think he's going to be alright? I mean, are they going to kill him or wait to get something in return?"
Kayn wanted to know that. It wasn't the type of question to ask someone in Rahka's situation, but he wanted to know.
Rahka sighed. "I think he will be fine for now. But they will certainly want something in return. Hell, we don't know what they are capable of, so they might even kill him…"
Kayn knew it was about time for him to start doing something. He had to master some stealth skills to spy the nearby tribes.
So, during the night, Kayn went back to his meditation. With the added points in intelligence, well, things got a lot easier.
