Chapter 2 - Between Light and Darkness

Chapter 2

Everything was silent.

For the first time in a long time, I felt no pain. There was no weight poking through my chest, no aching pain in my limbs. I felt… light. Like I was floating.

Is this death?

I tried to open my eyes, but nothing but darkness enveloped me. A vast, endless void stretching out in all directions. But it wasn't cold, nor was it scary. It was peaceful.

Then, I heard something. Footsteps.

In the distance, then getting closer. It seemed like Someone was heading my way.

A soft voice called my name. "Enny."

I turned toward the sound, and suddenly, a faint light appeared in the distance. A warm golden light, flickering like a candle in the wind. I took a step forward or at least, I thought I did. I wasn't sure if I was walking closer or not.

As I got closer to the light, something appeared, it was a woman.

She looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place her. Her long hair flowed around her like silk, and her eyes were filled with a warmth I hadn't felt in a long time.

"You look so tired, my dear," she said softly, reaching out to touch my cheek. Her touch was warm, soothing.

"Who are you?" I whispered.

She smiled softly. "Someone who has been watching you for a long time."

I blinked. "Am I… dead?"

Her smile faded a little, and she shook her head. "Not yet."

I frowned. "Then why am I here?"

The woman stepped closer, cupping my face in her hands. "Because your heart is at a crossroads. You stand between life and death, Enny. And you must choose."

Choose?

I thought my fate was sealed.

"If I go back, will I, be sick again?"

She nodded. "Yes."

"And if I stay?"

Her expression softened. "Then you will finally rest. No more pain, no more suffering."

My chest tightened. The thought of peace was tempting—so tempting. But… something inside me hesitated.

"What about my father?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Her eyes were filled with sadness. "He will grieve. But he will also continue to love you, even though you are gone."

I swallowed hard. "And my mother?"

She was silent for a moment before answering. "She made her choice a long time ago. But that doesn't mean you are not loved."

Tears welled up in her eyes. I didn't know what to do. I didn't know what I wanted.

"Can I rest… for a moment?" I asked.

She smiled and nodded. "Of course, my love."

She pulled me into a gentle embrace, and for the first time in my life, I felt truly warm. safe. loved.

Maybe I'll make a decision soon.

But for now... I just want to sleep.
