Although Mewtwo didn't look quite as cool in its current form, it now exuded a far more intimidating aura of lethality!
[Today's Discounted Items Have Been Refreshed!]
Just as Nathan was marveling at Mewtwo X, the annoying system voice suddenly echoed in his mind.
"Don't look. Don't look! The system's definitely trying to scam me again!"
Even though Nathan kept warning himself over and over that this was a trap laid by the system, he couldn't help but open the system store anyway.
And when he saw the discounted item, Nathan suddenly wanted to find out if there was a way to uninstall or delete the system entirely.
When he hadn't yet found the X Mewtwonite, the system hadn't refreshed any of this nonsense.
Now that he had found the X Mewtwonite, the system suddenly refreshed the store and even gave him a reminder.
Wasn't this just a blatant attempt to lure him into a trap?
The newly refreshed item wasn't just anything—it was a synthesizer.
[**Mega Stone Synthesizer: Can combine different Mega Stones for the same Pokémon. Limited-time price: 99,800,000!!]
Right now, Nathan really wanted to reach into his brain, rip the system out, and bury it in a pit.
He knew that Mewtwo had two different Mega Evolution forms.
Each had its own strengths and weaknesses.
But as far as he knew, there were fewer than ten Pokémon in total that had two Mega forms.
More importantly, the only Pokémon he had with two Mega forms was Mewtwo.
Sure, Charizard could also Mega Evolve into two forms, but looking at "Hotfoot"'s current state, could he even use Charizard's Mega Stones?
So basically, even if he bought this thing, it could only be used for Mewtwo and maybe Hotfoot at best.
And then there was the absurd price—99.8 million.
Really, system? Even giving me a "998" deal like a TV infomercial?
"System, I suspect you're scamming me—and I have proof," Nathan grumbled.
[Discount ends in: 3 minutes.]
"…You keep this up, you'll lose your host."
[Discount countdown: 2:32.]
In Nathan's mind, a chubby figure with eyes smaller than soybeans appeared—clearly a shady salesman.
Right on the forehead of this shady guy were the words "SYSTEM."
And this shady dealer was shouting, "Final three minutes! Buy now or miss out!"
"Damn you! Fine, I'll buy it!"
Nathan, who rarely cursed, ended up purchasing the Mega Stone Synthesizer in a fit of anger.
"You better not screw me over. If this thing ends up being useless, you're dead."
After saying that to the system in his mind, a blender-like machine appeared in his hand.
"…"
Only, the exit chute of this blender was a bit large—just big enough for a Mega Stone to roll out of.
"This is your so-called Mega Stone Synthesizer? You sure it's not just a blender?"
Nathan couldn't help but ask the system.
But the system didn't respond at all.
Seeing that the system stayed silent, Nathan sighed and stuffed the synthesizer into his backpack.
Just as he did, he suddenly remembered—he didn't have the Y Mewtwonite!
Which meant this thing was now just sitting there, useless.
And who knew when he'd even find the Y Mewtwonite?
With that realization, Nathan decided to just forget about it for now and turn his attention back to Mewtwo.
Otherwise, if he kept thinking about it, he felt like he might die of frustration.
Still, deep down, Nathan was really looking forward to seeing what Mewtwo XY would be like—and just how powerful it could become.
But for now, the most important thing was testing out Mewtwo's strength.
After all, if he wasn't familiar with Mewtwo X's abilities, it'd be hard to command it effectively in a real match.
"Come on out, Volcarona!"
Nathan released his Volcarona next.
He wanted Volcarona to spar with Mewtwo X a bit.
"Vol~"
"Alright, you two spar for a bit—don't go too hard," Nathan said, gently pushing aside Volcarona, who was trying to snuggle up to him.
The two Pokémon locked eyes. Even though it was just a friendly match, both of them radiated intense fighting spirit.
Mewtwo was eager to test its new power.
As for Volcarona? It was purely trying to reclaim some attention.
Ever since Mewtwo joined the team, Nathan had been using Volcarona less and less.
"You two better be careful—no high-powered moves!" Nathan reminded again, a bit worried as he looked at the two battle-ready Pokémon.
To be honest, he was genuinely concerned they might wreck the place.
…
Back during the competition in Valar, the battle between Frosmoth and Coalossal had destroyed an entire stadium.
If they wrecked another training room this time, no one would dare let Nathan train indoors again.
As the battle began, Volcarona took to the skies and immediately launched a powerful Fire Blast.
Mewtwo X didn't even bother dodging. Instead, it charged straight into the blast.
Twin Aura Spheres formed in both of Mewtwo's hands.
The spheres fired off and collided head-on with the Fire Blast.
BOOM!
With a deafening explosion, the Fire Blast was completely neutralized, and Mewtwo emerged unscathed, flying straight at Volcarona.
"Take it easy, you two!" Nathan called out anxiously.
But it was like the two Pokémon didn't even hear him. They kept going at it with thunderous intensity.
Volcarona was a solid Champion-tier Pokémon, while Mewtwo, though not quite as high-leveled, was a genetically engineered Pokémon that inherited the strengths of 80% of all species.
In terms of raw power, it was not to be underestimated.
After two minutes, the battle was still at a stalemate.
Since this was a sparring match, they weren't using their most destructive moves.
Just as Nathan was really getting into watching the fight, the doorbell suddenly rang.
These personal training rooms weren't supposed to allow anyone in once they were in use.
Anyone wanting to enter would need the occupant's permission.
Curious who would be visiting at a time like this, Nathan walked over to the door.
If it was Grog, he should be off moving the mega evolution stones right now.
When he opened the door, he saw a staff member from the training center standing there, looking anxious.
"Excuse me, student, is something going on in there?" the staffer asked hurriedly.
"Nothing's going on," Nathan replied, a little puzzled. "Just letting my Pokémon spar. What could possibly be happening?"
The staffer was about to respond but then glanced inside through the crack in the door.
When he saw the two Pokémon locked in combat, he was stunned.
What incredibly powerful Pokémon!
"Could you maybe… tell your Pokémon to keep it down a bit?" the staffer asked timidly, pointing at Mewtwo and Volcarona battling in mid-air.
Nathan turned around and instantly understood why the staff member had come over.
So, it was because of those two rascals sparring, huh?
Wait, wasn't the soundproofing in here supposed to be top-notch?
"Did they disturb the others? I'll have them go easier," Nathan said awkwardly.
The staff member really wanted to snap, "Disturb others?
Your Pokémon are making the whole building shake!"
Even though this was a single-story building designed specifically for training—reinforced against shock and damage—still, did Nathan not know how strong his Pokémon were?
The staffer was about to say more, but Nathan had already closed the door.
He still wanted to watch his Pokémon spar. Who had time to listen to complaints?
With him here, what—were Mewtwo and Volcarona going to bring the building down?
Just as Nathan closed the door, he suddenly felt his phone vibrate in his pocket.
Taking it out, he saw it was a call from Lily.
"Hey, what's up? What made you think to call me all of a sudden?" Nathan asked after answering.
Lily, calling with excitement, heard all the roaring and explosions on the other end and suddenly doubted whether she had dialed the wrong number.
"What's going on over there? Why does it sound like bombs going off nonstop?"
She looked at the screen—yep, it was definitely Nathan's number.
"I'm in the school training room, letting my Pokémon spar," Nathan explained.
Upon hearing that, Lily immediately understood—of course. Nathan was training his Pokémon again.
Having a genius boyfriend... was exhausting.
"Come outside and pick me up—I'm at the school gate."
