Chapter 7 - Pitfall

Midel's POV

The quiet town resounds with the clashing blades and explosions. Blood splatters everywhere as I left those bodies on the ground without remorse.

The enemies are just swarming us endlessly, but we didn't falter to its number. The battle of bullets and blades continued. Fast but precise movements are done in order to outsmart every enemies at hand.

And not even a single devious plan of them ever succeeded to kill the both of us.

"They're not reducing in numbers at all!" I shouted, making Ceil smile before firing his gun to his enemy behind.

"Duck!" He deliberately pointed the gun at me and fired multiple times. Those fast bullets flew passed me as more than six enemies drops dead in a distance. "We can't outrun them, can we?"

"I'm afraid so." More than five of the enemies already surrounded me with the sole intent of cutting me in half. But as I punched the ground, more than the number of them near me flew up by the shockwave. And Ceil pointed at them and pierced some bullets into their heads midair.

Two other enemies tried to sneakily attack me from opposite directions. But a single kick to its chest and a punch to the other's nose happened almost at the same time, killing them instantly.

Ceil is also doing a great job at his end. The way he countered every single slashes in a close combat range. Shooting through the enemies' skulls with bend elbows. A kick almost comparable to a lightning strike. Those movements that could never be predicted, truly sets the impression of a strong and reliable comrade... and also a dangerous enemy.

"Look out!" He pointed to my direction but his gun only clicked after pulling its trigger. "Oh, screw it!"

He immediately reloads his gun, but the enemies wouldn't give him a chance.

I want to assist him but a strong presence entered my zone. Making me immobile and shocked for a second.

This is incredible!

"Midel!" Ceil shouted while his punches and kicks didn't stop, keeping the majority of the enemies left occupied.

But the real enemy resides behind me. And it's not just one but three of them.

Are they the bosses? No. Not sure.

But to think that they have the same aura's of a king, it is truly an incredible feeling but also terrifying at the same time.

One of them don't have weapons around his back or hands. The other was the opposite. And the third one is still in hiding.

But it never occured to me. How fast they could react just by looking at them. When I only caught was a glimpse of their shadows before they appeared right behind me with the intent of killing me.

And that made them join me in a dance fight. The keen intent of murder. And the sense of destruction of the other one's fists truly puts me up to my game.

Every dodge felt so self-fulfilling. Giving them more strength and motivation to outsmart my movements in every single second. But despite those cloud cutting blades and those explosives punches joined in a collaborative attacks. It's still not enough, when finally I caught the puncher's weakness points and without hesitation, blew off its chest with a piercing fast punch.

The sword-handler tried to finish me off through my neck but my elbow was faster. Hitting him straight to the neck. And as I turned to him, my fist releases steam as it tightened right before punching his chin up, and decapitated him with a blast.

I heard a gunshot, making me turn to Ceil's direction where he killed the last one. He is gasping for air. Blood all over his face and clothes. His eyes are tired but the sense of a fight is still there.

Ceil looked around. "The place is quiet again. Did we kill all of them?"

No. There's still one of them missing. That third presence I felt a while ago. It disappeared right after I defeated those two. I can't sense it anymore nearby. "We still need to find the last one."

"What do you mean?"

"Probably the strongest of them. Let's stay vigilant and start searching for the jewelry." If the wave of those enemies happens again, the conclusion of this raid might change.

We searched the town for clues. Never left stones unturned. Until we arrived at a castle entrance outside town. The trail was too narrow and if we didn't search the forest for almost five minutes we will never find out about this residing castle here.

Ceil sighed. "Finally, a sensible place to look for a princess's jewelry."

"Let's go inside."

Pushing the door open was never the hard part of the job. And shockingly, finding the a princess sitted on a throne was the same.

It's a beautiful girl. Crown on her head and a gown of silk, white and black. It's eyes was swollen black. Just sitting there, completely unmoving. "Looks like we found it." Ceil pointed to the sleeping girl's hand, where a golden ring is on its finger.

"Yes, we did." We walked carefully toward the throne. Stops infront of it and suspiciously looked around it.

"It looked ordinary to me." His thumb is below his chin.

"You sure?" I looked at him. He smirked. Steps forward and elevated the hand of the girl. Before slipping the ring out of her fingers and then he tossed it to me.

"See? Nothing happened."

But right then.

The sturdy ground where we are standing opened like a trapdoor. And the pitfall did its thing as we dropped into it, like an endless hole.
