Chapter 147 - Chapter 147 – Prelude to Chaos

Being a guard outside their meeting place wasn't easy. I had to find a suitable place to oversee everything and yet it wasn't far from the supermarket. After wandering around the perimeter for a while, I finally found a nice spot on top of an abandoned building.

The roof provided a perfect vantage point and it was close enough for me to hear everything without getting too close. It also allowed me to hide myself from sight if necessary.

It took some effort to climb up here because the stairs weren't safe.

Finally, I reached the roof on the fourth floor. Not that high but not that low either. I could jump to the ground without taking damage at this height but it was also high enough for me to observe what's happening inside the building.

From here, I could see clearly how Saeko and Miss Rika walked to the entrance and went into the building. I watched as the two entered, and then they disappeared into the darkness.

I tried to move around to see their location through the broken window, but I couldn't see them anymore. They must have gone further inside. That meant I couldn't protect them directly.

'I hope Saeko has enough. She is a genius swordswoman after all.'

I could see a few people in front of the supermarket, standing around like they were on guard duty. There was also a woman among them, looking rather nervous. I recognized them as one of those strange groups from before, but not all of them.

And I noticed something.

'Why is the leader of those troublemakers standing outside?'

Someone who clearly looked like a leader received reports from a few people next to the supermarket. From the way they moved, they seemed to be as secretive as possible.

A few people tried to look around the area, most probably searching for military backup. And the leader was talking to a few people who were standing beside him. They were whispering amongst themselves and I could tell they weren't talking about anything nice.

'Is there an ambush?' I thought. 'I have to prepare myself to jump down and join them.'

Staying in this place might be bad because if they were indeed planning something, I wouldn't be able to respond immediately. So I decided to leave the building and go down the stairs, walking around the area until I got to the ground level again.

'Let's just hope Saeko and Rika won't do something reckless for now. Those people look dangerous. I still need time to infiltrate that supermarket.'

Without the sniper I brought, my weapon was limited to revolver and my sword. If the enemies were humans, I was confident in fighting them. Even if they brought a minigun I wouldn't be worried about it.

The problem was the infiltration part. These people guarded all sides of the building and I couldn't enter easily without alerting anyone.

If they were zombies, it would be a different story. Zombies weren't that smart so they couldn't really detect my presence, especially if I hid my smell and sound.

Humans were much smarter than zombies and that made it harder to sneak past them undetected. Not to mention I didn't have any equipment or gear for an infiltration mission, so this was going to be tricky.

Looking for the hole in their defense was no easy matter either. There were 8 people guarding this area alone and 2 more inside the building.

'Where's their leader anyway? I can't find him...'

I scanned the surroundings again, but there was still no sign of their leader. It was just a few minutes since I climbed down from the roof but I had lost track. I only remembered his face covered in beard, wearing sunglasses, a black hat, and a coat.

'No, I don't have time for that now.' I shook my head and tried to stay focused.

I checked the area and noticed a small opening between two buildings. It looked dark, perfect for me to sneak in. There were no guards around the area because it had no entrance at all. Only a smooth wall covered all sides. I quickly slipped inside, hiding behind a wall.

From there, I jumped and climbed the walls until I reached a broken window on the third floor and entered.

Just as I landed inside, I heard footsteps from outside and voices belonging to the guard.

"Hey, are you sure you heard something here? Maybe you were just drunk?"

"Fuck you! I wasn't! I saw a shadow!"

"Whatever. It might be a cat or stray dog anyway. You don't want to get involved in that."

"Uuhh... Yeah, I still don't want to die yet."

"That's why let's leave. We are needed somewhere else."

I stayed still and waited for the guards to leave before moving. Once I was sure there were none around, I moved out and began my search.

While moving, I suddenly had a bad feeling. The words those guards left behind before leaving remained in my mind, and I had a gut feeling something was about to happen. I didn't know what it was, but I had a feeling that whatever it was, it was bad.

Involved in that? What did he mean by that?

And the other said he didn't want to die yet. Which meant whatever they prepared for Miss Rika and Saeko or this evacuation zone could mean death for those who got caught.

Something that could kill someone who got caught in it.

No matter how I think about it, it was a bomb, right?

'I need to find it before it's too late.'

At least it was the only answer that my brain could think about.

Thankfully I remembered the room they used for the meeting. A former security office located near the daily necessities section. The place was close to the entrance and had only one door and no windows at all, perfect to trap people in case they had any suspicious plan.

Think, Daiki. If I were their members, where would I place the bomb to ensure that my enemies were dead? And how big was it? How many bombs were placed around this place?

It didn't take a long time before I found the answer.

The lower floor.

"There it is."

I found it easily. Three large duffel bags with beeping sounds coming from it.

My lips curled up into a big grin at that. Maybe I'd pull a little prank on those fucking group who tried to kill my sister.
