Chapter 3 - Chapter Two: "The Stranger in the Mirror"

Beep... beep... beep...

The sound echoed — sharp, mechanical, steady.

Hospital machines.

"Mmm… my head…" I whispered, my voice dry and barely audible.

I blinked slowly.

(White ceiling. The faint smell of antiseptic.

Where... am I?I tried to sit up — pain shot through me like lightning).

(My heart started pounding, faster and louder than the beeping).

I looked around.

(Empty walls. No familiar faces. No answers) .

"Where am I? Where am I?!"

(Panic gripped me like iron chains. My voice cracked as I shouted, tears stinging the corners of my eyes).

Just then —

The door flew open.

(A nurse stumbled in, her expression stunned).

"Doctor! Doctor! She's awake!" she shouted, her voice trembling with shock and urgency.

(I stared at her, my breath caught in my throat).

Awake. Alive. But... who am I?

{ A minute later, the doctor arrived — a man in his forties, with salt-and-pepper hair and kind eyes that carried years of experience. He approached my bed slowly, a soft, reassuring smile on his face}.

"Are you alright?" he asked softly.

(I tried to answer, but the words caught in my throat. I nodded — barely).

Then, the fear returned.

"W-where am I?" I asked. "And… w-who am I?"

(The doctor's face shifted, worry bleeding through his practiced calm).

"You were in an accident," he explained carefully. "A bad one. You hit your head pretty hard. It appears you're suffering from temporary memory loss."

I stared at him, frozen. The words hit harder than the pain in my body.

Memory loss?

"No… no, that can't be…" I shook my head weakly. "I-I don't remember anything. Nothing! I don't even know my own name!"

I shout...

(My hands flew to my head, as if holding it would hold in the questions spinning wildly inside).

Who am I? What happened to me? What did I forget?

{The walls felt like they were closing in, voices swirling around me like echoes underwater. The nurse, the doctor — all trying to calm me}.

(But how do you calm someone who's lost their identity?)

(Tears blurred my vision. My chest rose and fell in panicked gasps. How am I supposed to be calm?!)

[Suddenly, a prick in my arm. I looked down, confused, as the doctor gently pressed an injection into the IV tube].

"What… what is that?" I mumbled, my voice fading.

(The edges of the room began to blur).

(The ceiling spun. The voices turned to static).

(And then, darkness).

(As everything faded, one last thought echoed like a whisper in my broken mind:)

Who am I...? Who... am I...? Who...?
