Chapter 3 - Children of the night

I don't exactly remember what had happened, everything seems like a blur. All I remember was my burning lungs as I stumbled through the empty courtyard of the university.

I remembered.

I remembered how those figures with canines shaper than wolves tore the place down, how the lingering screams of innocent was ripped from their soul. I remembered how they told me to run away, how each steps I took was a life I let lifeless dead in the ground.

The empty courtyard of the university was eerily dark, and there beyond just a few more runs the gates was alive with cars, streetlights, and most importantly, people. It was going to be a breakthrough, I was going to make it, but of course, it seems like danger was always attracted to unexpected bystanders like me, my hand had trembled as I pressed them against my chest trying so hard to calm my wild heart from sounding to obvious over the dead streets.

But before I could make a dash to my freedom, something had moved in my peripheral vision, a fast chuckle lingers in my ears and it was fast. Too fast. As I barely have time to react and throw punches to whoever I could punch a hand grabbed my wrist and yank me backward making me stumble in place. Of course, a human would instant panic when I thought the ground might as well kissed my ass a pretty peck, only to find myself in the presence with a another stranger.

I was face-to-face with a glowing red eyes, which looks a bit no older than I was. If only he eyes didn't glow red, probably I would have asked for his numbers instead of running away in fear. Whoever he was he sure is different than the one before. With softer features and a more subtle intensity in his gaze, I knew instantly that this was different the person before. His grip in my arms were firm but not painful.

"Let me go."

"You need to come with me."

"No. I don't know you people." I struggled in my place, but my hands were still firmly held by stranger who didn't seem to faze at all by my attempt of freedom.

"They really did warn us you were going to be difficult one day." He hums silently.

"No shit."

"And an attitude too. I'm sorry there but we need to get going," His voice was calm, almost apologetic. "They're watching."

"Who—?"

But before the latter could answer my question, it seems like the answer presented themselves in the form of 6 more gorgeous men. I saw it with my own eyes as their body move in a blur like those memories I had when I was five. Each of them emerged from the shadows and for sure they were surrounding my like a prey. But honestly, they were probably smart enough to notice I was ready to make a run for it if they didn't — Although it seems like they knew I wouldn't be able to go far even if try.

The skin was as pale at the moonlight, they were beautiful, like lost children of the night. They looked like teenagers, if I was not in the right mind, I would have though they were just as normal as I was, sadly the glowing eyes and smiling canines had given everything away.

Each of them was impossibly beautiful — inhuman beautiful. A sinking feeling settled in my stomach, and without a thought I had realize what they were. Bravely I looked at them one by one before finally meeting eyes with the person in front of me.

"You're not human," I whispered.

One of them—a boy with messy hair and a lazy smirk—laughed. "Took you long enough to figure that out."

The one holding your wrist could only sighed, nodding his head. "It seems like your familiar with we are. Good. We don't need to explain."

"I know what you are. I still think it's bullshit."

One of them shakes their head a bit disappointed by what I had said to them. "Sadly in denial. We have a lot of things to get it through her head. Let her go, Marco."

The one called Marco could only looked at me and smiles apologetically before loosening his grip. I had to stagger a bit and they all took their stance afraid I might surprise them and out run them. The pulse in my wrist and heart was still erratic, and my mind racing with questions that maybe 'they' could answer.

I mean it's not like everyday, I would be graced by such presence.

"What do you want from me?"

Marco — as to what his friends had called him — watched me carefully, trying to study me. "I really do need you to come with us, we meant no harm —"

"No." I stood by my stance, surely anyone stupid enough to follow someone home, let alone 7 men. I was still trying not run and was also a bit curious of what they would do if I was reluctant. "Any sane person would go with strangers, let alone seven vampires."

They looked at one another, a bit surprise that I was taking it well.

"But you're not even human yourself." one of them whisper, taking my attention to them and of course, I could only laugh at how ridiculous on how that sounded.

"Crazy enough none of you decided to deny the fact that I just called you a mythical creature that seize to exist, confirming a shocking not shocking statement, but also accused me of being in-humane." I chuckled, staggering back a bit, "I don't which part to think that it's crazy."

"But you do," another voice interrupted. I turned to see a boy with sharp eyes and an unreadable expression. "You've always felt different, haven't you? Like something in you doesn't quite belong?"

A lump formed in my throat, because whoever he was, he's right. Ever since that night, that terrible night that haunted my dreams, I had to spent the rest of my life feeling like something didn't quiet felt right. I have always thought that this is just something normal since I couldn't deny, I didn't have the normal life before, even thought I try my best to accept the fact that it was not normal I tried so hard to leave that life behind. I pretend that it never happened.

I follow those who told me to be careful with the monsters of the night. Maybe it was like a fated meeting that without a thought this day could come. Moreover, I do notice I was always different than the others of my peers, but that couldn't just convince me that quick, can it?

"You're wrong." I whispered, but my voice lacked conviction. "I didn't feel anything."

A toothy grinned latched to one of the members who listen to the conversation, tilting his head. "You sure? Not even the flickering memories you lie to yourself being it a nightmare? Maybe something more obvious than dreams, you heal faster don't you?"

"Alright Cerius, I think you might shock her enough," Another of them, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. "I think we all know that she's lying and somehow she do notice, but the question is why are you denying it."

"Because it'd can't justify with my current situation, last time I know, vampires don't exist." I muttered.

the person hummed in agreement. "Well, is that also confirming the fact that she doesn't know yet and we should be happy that now it's getting interesting."

"No Jullian, now we have more stuff to do because, she doesn't seem to understand what she got herself into and she doesn't know how to defend herself when they come and possibility of us also casted out by the elites is bigger. I told you this is a bad idea." another shorter grumbles in annoyance.

Marco sighed. "We don't have time for this. If we found her, that means they will too."

My stomach twisted, because it seems that danger is never to far. Especially the fact they entrusted with more ridiculous information of 'they' possibility of danger. "Hold up, They? whose 'they'?"

All them looked at one another and Marco decided to move a bit closer and our gaze met. He could only give me that somber expression and looks back at the other six.

"The ones who want you dead."
