Jaceon sat on the rooftop, legs dangling over the edge like a bored gargoyle watching the city decay below him. The wind brushed his face, carrying distant sounds—sirens, laughter, life. All of it felt foreign to a being like him, who had no place among the living.
Then came soft footsteps behind him. Familiar. Warm.
"Hey," Levi said gently, sitting beside him.
Jaceon gave a small nod. He didn't speak. Not yet.
"I heard you and Jarvis talking," Levi admitted.
Jaceon's jaw tightened. "You were spying?"
"I was worried," Levi replied, not missing a beat. "And now I'm more than worried, Jaceon. I'm scared for Zyren."
Jaceon sighed and finally turned his face toward Levi. "You know what he's doing is forbidden. Jarvis wasn't wrong."
Levi leaned in, eyes sincere. "But it's not hurting anyone. He's not out there saving the world, Jaceon. He's just trying to feel less cursed for once. Maybe demons aren't all pure evil. Maybe some of you… want to change."
"Change doesn't exist in Hell," Jaceon murmured bitterly. "Only punishment."
"Then help him break the rule," Levi whispered. "Let him pray. Let him have that hope. And you can lie to Jarvis if you want, or just say nothing."
Jaceon looked away. "You really believe it's that easy?"
"No," Levi said with a mischievous smile. "That's why I'm giving you a little motivation."
Jaceon arched a brow. "What kind of motivation?"
Levi leaned close, lips brushing his ear. "Help me protect Zyren… and tonight, I'm yours. One night. No rules. No interruptions."
Jaceon's eyes darkened, a flicker of his true nature flashing through—but not the cold one. This was desire, confusion, and something softer… affection, maybe.
"You're playing a dangerous game, Levi."
"I like danger," Levi smirked. "Besides, I'm with the Devil's favorite. I should get perks."
Jaceon chuckled low and deep, then nodded once. "Alright. I'll keep Zyren's secret. But if he ever opens his mouth to the wrong person—"
"I'll handle it," Levi said.
They both stood up, the air between them charged and magnetic. Levi turned to walk away, but Jaceon grabbed his wrist gently.
"Just one thing," Jaceon murmured. "Don't make promises you're not ready to keep."
Levi looked back at him, cheeks warm. "You'll find out tonight."
And with that, he disappeared into the stairwell, leaving behind a demon who—against all odds—felt something dangerously close to human.
