Chapter 89 - The Red Wedding, Part 11

Alicia's brutal murder had left behind bite marks. Larry remembered this perfectly, since he was the one who performed the autopsy and provided the agents with the necessary tools to catch the killer.

Of course, all of this was based on a preliminary investigation of the suspects, and that's where the evidence came in—the evidence that could tell them who was or wasn't involved.

That was what a forensic expert did, but Larry had taken it to the next level by giving the agents, in just under twenty-four hours, all the evidence that could be used.

The problem was that one of those pieces of evidence couldn't be used against Nelson, which greatly annoyed Larry. But that didn't matter anymore, because they had a lead with Williams.

"There are bite marks on the victim's ear. I remember it was a shovel-shaped incisor. Get a bite impression from Dr. Williams to compare."

Jack nodded, his eyebrows lifting instantly with excitement.

"That sounds good."

As he spoke, he dialed the phone and asked someone to bring Dr. Williams in.

Larry took the opportunity to go over the report sent by the analysis department. The DNA extracted from some of the bite marks and other blood traces had been compared to the samples taken from Cristhoper and, to little surprise, they matched.

Another report showed that Cristhoper had no blood relation to Alicia's baby.

Jack hung up the phone, and Larry handed him the report.

"The evidence against suspect Cristhoper is sufficient, and the motive is clear: the child is not his biological son. We can formally approve the arrest!"

Jack stared at Larry for a few seconds before calling Markus.

"So we've got the two murderers."

"Yes..."

Larry wanted to say that there was a criminal mastermind behind all this, but he held his tongue.

He would personally take care of Nelson, who had mocked him to his face with his pitiful performances.

"Hey, Markus! The evidence against Cristhoper is no longer a problem. Let's talk to the hospital and bring him back."

Markus agreed and hung up the phone.

Then someone knocked on the door and Max entered quickly, holding the dental mold of Dr. Williams' bite and a life-size photo taken at the scene.

With a serious expression, he handed both to Larry.

Larry knew there was a problem from the look on his face.

He quickly stood up, took the dental mold, and compared it to the bite mark in the photo. He saw that Dr. Williams' front teeth stuck out slightly and there was a noticeable gap between them, which didn't match the photo at all.

Even Jack, an amateur, could tell they weren't from the same person.

"They don't match!"

"Are there three killers?"

Larry and Max nodded, and Larry pointed to the bite mark and said, "The one who left this bite mark is the real culprit!"

"As for the DNA, it could've come from chewing gum or an old gauze that Dr. Williams used to bandage his wound. It can come from many things."

This trick to shed the blame was incredible!

Jack sighed, and then Max asked, confused, "Why did the killer choose Dr. Williams as the scapegoat?"

"Maybe it was just convenient! Among Alicia's exes, he's the only one the killer could easily reach."

Larry had doubts about the real reason, but any basic explanation would do for now.

Jack took a deep breath.

"You still suspect Nelson? What reason does he have to kill? As far as we know, his family is decent—no worse than Glsd's. And when it comes to women, he's had more girlfriends, and way more attractive than Alicia!"

Larry kept rubbing the handle of the scalpel in his pocket. The cold touch calmed him down.

He couldn't be impatient anymore. Even if the killer was highly professional, it would be impossible to perfectly fake a crime scene.

Evidence and corpses don't lie!

As for the motive—only the killer knows!

What's needed now is proof. Larry doesn't have any, except a bite mark. Even if it could be matched, more solid evidence is missing.

Suddenly, Larry stopped, snatched the SLR camera from the fat man, and began searching.

Jack and Max said nothing, just watched Larry's actions.

After searching for a long time,

Larry finally found the photo of Alicia's palm, which had a very clear mark of a four-leaf clover.

"Max, load it on the computer and zoom in!"

Max took out a data cable and quickly connected it to the computer.

With a few clicks, the photo opened on the screen, and the mark was enlarged to full size.

That way, many details were revealed. The mark was made of tiny prints. Jack and the fat man thought about it for a long time but still had no idea what caused it.

Jack frowned and kept bouncing his legs, wishing he could press his face against the screen. "It looks familiar. What is it?"

"A ring?"

"Is that it?"

"Men's watches don't have decorations like this!" Larry pointed to a ring of granular markings.

"This is a diamond setting. Even if we can't see the object, the imprint is clear. It's a fine piece of jewelry, and its size is 9 millimeters by 9 millimeters."

But before they could speculate further, a call interrupted them.

"We've got a problem."

"Boss, is that person gone?"

Jack suddenly stood up.

"Who's missing? Tell me clearly, please!"

"Cristhoper disappeared from the hospital!"
