Tian Tian, ever the spirited "enthusiastic citizen," had already taken Tian Yu's arm and hurried over with excitement gleaming in her eyes.
Tian Yu frowned, watching her.
God's forehead… when will my sister's habit of butting into drama ever change?
---
"Hmph, this brat ran into me, and I'm in the wrong for teaching him a lesson?"
Kankuro had Konohamaru by the collar, sneering at the approaching Konoha crowd.
"I hate little kids! So arrogant! I ought to kill him right here!"
He raised his fist, ready to punch Konohamaru's face.
"Stop!"
Naruto rushed in, arms wide to shield Konohamaru. He shut his eyes and braced himself for the blow.
"It's really troublesome…" Tian Yu muttered from a distance.
Originally, he hadn't planned to interfere—this was trivial. But these were Suna-nin, brazenly rampaging in Konoha. And they dared to pick on Naruto...
He couldn't just stand by.
With a flick, Tian Yu kicked a pebble from the ground.
The small stone shot forward, striking Kankuro's wrist mid-swing.
Kankuro yelped, his arm spasming with pain as if cramped.
Seizing the moment, Naruto pulled Konohamaru to safety.
Kankuro glared at the pebble, then followed its trajectory to Tian Yu.
"You did that?"
"I did," Tian Yu answered coolly.
"Wow! Konoha's got some lookers too!" Temari commented, eyeing Tian Yu.
"Who the hell are you?"
Kankuro clutched his wrist, rotating it to ease the pain, eyes narrowing in frustration.
"Hmph! Another annoying punk!"
"Sister Tian Tian! Brother Tian Yu!" Naruto shouted, clearly relieved.
Tian Yu's gaze was cold.
"This is Konoha. As guests, you're expected to follow our rules. If you stir up trouble again, I won't mind having the village guards show you some... hospitality. And if you're so eager to fight, I won't stop you—but you might miss your chance at the Chunin Exams."
Though Konoha had its flaws, Tian Yu held a deep loyalty to the village. It was like his alma mater—only he had the right to criticize it. Outsiders, no matter their rank, had no such privilege.
"Why you…!" Kankuro growled, setting down the bandaged puppet on his back.
"Hey! Are you really gonna use Crow here? That guy will be furious!" Temari warned.
Her concern wasn't about winning the fight—only that "he" might get angry.
Kankuro ignored her, eyes locked on Tian Yu.
"A puppet master? Do you think your kind of gimmick can threaten me?" Tian Yu said with an amused smirk.
Kankuro flushed, beginning to unravel the bandages.
"Stop, Kankuro."
A cold voice cut through the tension.
Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke flinched.
None of them had sensed anyone nearby.
Tian Yu turned toward the tree.
There he was—Gaara.
Hanging upside-down on a branch, the red-haired boy with a massive gourd on his back stared calmly. But Tian Yu's focus wasn't on Gaara—it was on the one-tailed beast sealed within him: Shukaku.
Which of us is stronger now—me or Ichibi?
Just then, the system chimed in Tian Yu's mind:
> [Ding! Quest Triggered: Collect One-Tailed Shukaku's Chakra.] Reward: [Windwing Forging Blueprint]
So it's come to this.
But unlike Naruto, he and Gaara didn't share friendly bonds. He'd need to extract the chakra mid-combat.
Still, there was no rush.
A clash between him and Shukaku was inevitable—but not now.
"You idiot," Gaara snapped coldly at Kankuro. "You're disgracing our village. Do you forget why we came here?"
Gaara's gaze shifted briefly to Sasuke… then settled on Tian Yu.
Kankuro began to protest. "Wait, Gaara—they were the ones who—"
"Shut up, or I'll kill you."
Kankuro instantly went silent, sweat pouring down his face.
"What happened was our fault," Gaara said, still staring at Tian Yu. "I'm here to apologize."
He wasn't looking at Naruto or anyone else—only Tian Yu.
"I'm from Sunagakure. Name's Sabaku no Gaara. Now, may I ask your name?"
He landed softly from the tree and stepped closer.
Respectfully introducing himself, it was only natural that Tian Yu respond.
"Tian Yu."
"I'll remember that," Gaara replied. "I look forward to fighting you in the Chunin Exams."
"You'll definitely see me," Tian Yu replied nonchalantly, hands in his pockets.
"But I doubt you'll get the chance to fight me."
"Why not?"
"Because I'm not a participant… I'm your examiner for this year's Chunin Exams."
"Even though we're the same age… I'm already a jōnin."
---
Stunned silence fell.
"A jōnin…? At our age?" Gaara and his team were all taken aback.
Kankuro stepped back instinctively, his eyes wide.
"No way… He's just a kid!"
"If you don't believe me, you'll see during the exams," Tian Yu replied calmly.
The group fell into a storm of inner thoughts:
Tian Tian: Heehee! My brother's the best!
Naruto: That's Big Brother Tian Yu for you! Someday, I'll be like him!
Sakura: A jōnin? Like Kakashi-sensei? He's… incredible. I still love Sasuke-kun, but Tian Yu is something else. No wonder Ino's smitten…
