"Please… just ask Lucien to see me once," Delia pleaded in a hoarse voice. Caleb shook his head, who had prepared to deliver her final punishment.
"You should have spoken the truth when Alpha Lucien gave you the chance," Caleb said with annoyance. "You've been here for more than three months, Delia. Yet you still don't understand, your silence condemned you. You never once mentioned the hunters. Your punishment is justified."
Normally, Caleb avoided lecturing prisoners. But Delia's stubbornness had worn down his restraint.
"The hunters won't spare Leia," Delia shot back. "Her father spilled too much of their blood. They'll hunt her to the ends of the earth. If anyone can protect her, it's me. Tell Lucien, tell his brothers, give me one chance to prove it."
Caleb's jaw tightened. He remembered how many times she had kept her silence before.
"And yet you refused to tell me the same thing," Leia said, stepping inside.
