LAYLA'S POV
The wine is like ice against my skin.
It pours down my dress and it sticks to my body. My wolf whimpers inside me, curling low in shame. My hands tighten on the tray, but I don't move. I can't. The room has gone silent. Right now, every pair of eyes are on me too.
And then, before I can even breathe, Allora gasps loudly.
Another splash. She tips another goblet, this time over herself.
"My gown!" she shrieks, spinning toward me. she looks at me with venom in her eyes. "Look what you've done! You clumsy, useless girl!"
Everyone in the ballroom gasps. Everyone stops what they are doing. They all look at us. They start whispering around themselves.
I open my mouth to protest, to defend myself, but my throat is locked tight. My voice would mean nothing here. Nobody would believe me. Allora is a noble. I'm just an omega. My word means nothing.
The sting comes next.
