She paused, watching his expression carefully.
But the moment she uttered the first few words of her refusal, Lance's mind went blank. His head buzzed, and it felt as though lightning had struck him. His chest seemed to shatter into a thousand pieces, leaving him frozen in shock as her words sank in.
Lance's eyes widened as he stared at Addison in disbelief. He looked flustered and frightened at the same time. Deep down, he wanted to run, before he had to hear the rest of her words, but his feet refused to move. All he could do was look at her pleadingly, silently begging her to stop.
