Chapter 397 - Chapter 396: Chun-Li on Guard

Wearing such an otherworldly outfit, did he really think she was blind?

Under normal circumstances, she wouldn't have cared about someone like Ryuji. After all, what people wore was their own business, and among fighters, there were plenty with far stranger personal styles.

But this situation was different.

A man suddenly appeared, claimed to understand what was going on, and was dressed head to toe like someone from another world. Who would believe he wasn't from another world?

"A driver's license? Of course I don't have one,"

Ryuji replied bluntly.

"Because I'm also from China. But there's no real need for me to accept your questioning, is there? After all, you're an international police officer. International police officers need authorization and formal applications before enforcing the law, don't they?"

As he sized Chun-Li up, Ryuji was truly struck by her beauty. Her legs were full and prominent, but not the bulky, overly muscular type; rather, they were proportionate, well-balanced, and extremely beautiful.

Still, there was no way he was going to let her hand Tifa over to an official organization.

He actually wanted to talk things through properly with Chun-Li, but judging from her current expression and the fact that she already suspected Tifa of being an alien, there was no way she would casually let him to take Tifa away.

However, Chun-Li was also bound by rules.

"You..."

Chun-Li opened her mouth to speak but found she truly had no authority to enforce the law here. International police investigations required going through many procedures, and in practice, organizations like Interpol were heavily influenced by major powers. Acting here would require a long approval process. Even the United States had to go through formalities on the surface, let alone in cases outside their jurisdiction.

She was currently on vacation, so she truly had no right to investigate someone who might be from China or might not even belong to any country at all.

"So… Miss Tifa, come with me. I've actually seen people like you before and not just once. And also, Miss Chun-Li."

Ryuji turned to look at Chun-Li.

"Be careful of those meteors. Not everything that comes down with them is a victim like Tifa. There are truly terrifying things among them."

Ryuji couldn't help but recall the alien queen that had fallen together with a meteor back then. At the time, his combat power might not even have been enough to crush that thing.

But who would've thought a Red Dragon Queen would come crashing down instead.

"Oh? Sounds like you know quite a lot?"

The moment meteors were mentioned, Chun-Li immediately understood why Ryuji had appeared. Even though she didn't know how strong he really was, the fact that he could approach her without her noticing at all meant his strength was definitely not something to underestimate.

Even though this happened while she was quite relaxed, there were very few people in this world who could do something like that.

So, she suspected Ryuji had been eavesdropping.

"Don't worry. I specialize in dealing with things like this."

Looking at Chun-Li, and then at Tifa, who was staring at him with clear unease, Ryuji knew that if he didn't say something convincing, Tifa probably wouldn't come with him.

So he lowered his voice and spoke in a deep tone.

"I know about Sephiroth, Miss Tifa."

Tifa's eyes widened instantly. She stared at Ryuji in disbelief, instinctively covering her mouth with her hand before abruptly standing up.

Her crimson eyes locked onto Ryuji, her heart surging with emotion. In a place so far removed from her own world, hearing something related to it was truly a ray of hope.

Even though the name Sephiroth wasn't one she liked, it was something only people from her world could possibly know.

"Could it be that you're also..."

Ryuji knew what Tifa was thinking, so he raised a finger to his lips and said, "Don't talk about it here. After all, this is something from your village. I only learned about it through special channels."

He had no intention of telling Tifa the actual plot of the story. In that story, Tifa and Cloud eventually ended up together, and that would be quite disadvantageous for his own plans.

To be honest, Ryuji didn't have much interest in the world of Final Fantasy VII itself. Its power system was completely different from others, and he didn't think he could gain much strength there.

After all, the Final Fantasy worldview always carried a strong sense of destiny, which was quite unfriendly to transmigrators.

It was like those worlds that looked like simple monster-grinding games, but were actually high-level beings playing on alt accounts. If a transmigrator barged in without the right cheats or luck, they wouldn't even know how they died.

But Tifa shouldn't be that weak, right?

Ryuji used his perception to sense Tifa's body, but not to read things like physical data, or anything obscene inside her. Although that kind of thing would be trivial for his "observation haki" in this world, he had no interest in it.

If he wanted to see, he could just do it after successfully winning her over.

"So…"

Tifa was a little unwilling. She really wanted a companion, because she genuinely felt uneasy.

"Don't worry. I can send you back, though the method might be something you won't be able to accept."

Ryuji probed the 7 Days to Die world will, only to find that no matter how he tested it, that world will reacted as if it were dead. Clearly, relying on it to send Tifa back was impossible.

So if Tifa wanted to return, she really would have to go through his process.

But Tifa didn't care about any of that. She immediately grabbed Ryuji's hand and spoke urgently.

"No matter what it is, I'm willing! Please, you have to tell me!"

She was really anxious and desperate to return as soon as possible.

But an experienced man like Ryuji knew that if he said it outright now, never mind what Tifa would think, Chun-Li would immediately pick a fight with him.

While that might help him get to know Chun-Li, but it wasn't necessary to do it like this.

Glancing at Chun-Li, who was silently observing them, Ryuji shook his head.

"In any case, wait until you understand things a bit more before we talk about it. If I say it rashly now, you'll probably think I'm a scammer. But I really can send you back to your 'village.'"

Ryuji deliberately emphasized the word 'village,' and Tifa immediately caught on, subconsciously glancing at Chun-Li.

Chun-Li rolled her eyes, an unexpectedly charming gesture, then looked at Ryuji.

"I don't mind you taking her away, but I have to come with you. I assume, with your strength, you won't mind?"

Although Ryuji was very strong, Chun-Li sized him up and felt that it wasn't as if she had no chance at all.

"Of course. After all, I'm not sending her back right away."

Ryuji nodded. Chun-Li was practically delivering herself to him, of course he was willing. Though the chance of successfully winning her over probably wasn't very high. This world wasn't like the Kuroinu world, and his main purpose here was still training and experiencing the fighting spirit of the martial artists.

Even if that latter goal might not be fully achievable now.

"Then let's go."

Chun-Li nodded, took out some money from her wallet and placed it on the table, picked up her laptop and a brick-like mobile phone, then looked at Ryuji.

Ryuji, meanwhile, stared at the brick phone in Chun-Li's hand with a strange expression.

He really hadn't taken a good look at this world before.

Chun-Li's laptop was already fairly advanced, so why was her phone still a bulky old-fashioned brick phone?

Was this world's chip technology unevenly developed?

Ryuji felt a bit puzzled but didn't dwell on it. Instead, he nodded to Tifa and led the two of them out of the café.

The moment they stepped outside, Chun-Li, still in her uniform, quickly moved closer to Ryuji and asked in a low voice,

"Where is your base?"
