Chapter 19 - Chapter 19: mind games

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ivy looks down in the reflection of a puddle, her milky scarred eye stares back at her, mocking her. Slowly the face staring at her becomes that of Ullr blood streaking down his soft fur. "Will you ABANDON me? Like you did to your BRETHREN?" Ivy snarls baring her teeth. "You're not Ullr you're a figment of my messed up mind!" The reflection shivers and turns into Hailey. "Maybe I AM or NOT, still doesn't change the fact you abandoned US." With its last words the reflection vanishes, but a messed up disfigured form of Hailey brushes against Ivy while multiple rotting corpses of cubs run under her. "We all DIED yet you survived. It's unfair, isn't it? You have a SON and you're happy, aren't YOU?" Ivy growls deep in her throat. "I'm happy and still sane because of him… to some extent." The figment chuckles. "You've forgotten what your goal is, what you must do. I'm not your insanity I'm the THING you've forgotten what you've LOCKED UP in a cramped chest and have hidden in the DARKEST corner of your mind." Ivy scoffs. "Still doesn't ring a bell." The figure stops and all the cubs run to it forming a horrific amalgamation of corpses its voice booms out low and gravely. "I AM your regret, your bloodlust, your NEED for revenge, AND YOUR MISSION!" Ivy stares back at it the edges of her vision gaining a red haze. "You're my insanity nothing more, nothing else." The horrific beast starts screaming. "I will show you what it means to get revenge… yes, let us sow CORPSES. KILL the child, KILL the elf, EXTERMINATE the flesh bags and BATHE in their BLOOD, FEAST on their FLESH," it starts bleeding out every possible area of skin, its voice slowly becomes warped and twisted. "I will it , I DEMAND it. Let me out of this cramped prison and let me GUIDE you." Ivy stares at it with disgust. "Over my dead body." It twists its head in an unnatural angle and an impossibly wide grin spreads across its face. "Oh, but you are already DEAD! You're just BORROWING a vessel." With that it vanishes with a loud, hellish cackle.

"Hey Tsalice?" Ivy asks into the wind. "Yes?" The reply arrives almost instantaneously. "Are there any requests for me?" Silence stretches itself before walking away when Tsalice answers. "There's one. Someone asked

that you could make three gÿs-crystals and send one to me in exchange for like five months." Ivy blinks in confusion. "Gÿs-crystals?" Tsalice sighs. "They're crystallized spells and the first part is the type of spell in this case gÿs means ice. You form them by casting a spell and condescending it into a crystal." Ivy nods. "I'm going to try it right now." "Wait, It's rather dangerous let me guide you." Slowly a heavy presence seems to settle around Ivy's, her body isn't her own anymore only feeling is truly hers. Tsalice casts a spell, but doesn't release it instead it's pressed together at a snails pace, a moment later a crystal falls to the ground. "There you go, now you give it a try."

Ivy blinks, the crystal is tiny with an icy blue coloring. So that's a gÿs-crystal. Slowly Ivy shifts into her demi-human form quickly after casting a spell. She holds onto it, sparks fly in the air while she slowly compresses the spell into a crystal, sometimes she feels Tsalice's presence guiding when she's going too fast or too slow. After a moment a new crystal falls to the ground. "You're almost able to do it alone. Again!" Tsalice comments. Taking a deep breath Ivy casts another spell slowly compressing it, this time she succeeds without help. "Well done, one more and you can complete the request." Ivy frowns. "There are three crystals in front of me." "No, the one I created doesn't count, it was an example on how to do it." Ivy tail twitched in irritation. "You still made it from my mana!" "Yes, I did, but I still made it and the request states that you need to make them." Ivy rolls her eyes. "Alright." And with that Ivy quickly creates another crystal, offers it to Tsalice, and receives her increased lifespan.

Ivy flicks one of the gÿs-crystals into the air before quickly snatching it back into her hand. What can I even do with these things? Maybe I should throw it and see what happens. Ivy walks a good distance away from a tree, before turning around. She aims and flings the crystal towards it. Yes, bullseye. The crystal smacks dead center into the tree and shatters before exploding into a sharp ice structure piercing through the thick wood and climbing the trunk. Ivy rises a brow. Keeping these away from Ullr. She Pulls out another crystal. "Can I regain mana from these, like a mana battery?" "No, don't even try." Thank you, Tsalice.

Something brushes besides Ivy's flank. "What an interesting new TOY that is." Not this again. Ivy groans inwardly. "YES, this AGAIN." The creature chuckles, sitting down in front of her. It had taken the shape of Ivy, but with both its eyes still intact, a wide grin is plastered on its face revealing sharp gleaming teeth. Ivy stared into the cold, emotionless eyes of the figment. "Oh, Ivy. Why don't we play a little with it?" it narrowed its eyes dangerously. "By REMOVING the DISTRACTIONS preventing you from doing what you must?" Ivy growls. "I'm not killing my son or Luna!" It tilts its head in a mocking angle. "NO?" It inquires in a tone clearly not expecting an answer. "THEN let me help US by letting me out of THIS CRAMPED CAGE!" It screamed the last words out while at the same time twisting it head in unnatural angles. "You did it BEFORE." It adds in a deceivingly sweet tone. "Now you just ignore me it makes me SAD." It finishes with a cackle.

Ivy's fur bristled and she marched up to the figment of her mind. I'm done with this thing. "It's good that you're locked in a decrepit box. You have no power over me and there definitely is no us." Ivy glared at it. I don't want to know what sins I would commit if I let it free. The figment narrowed its eyes. "That word SIN it's… interesting. Sin it is I will call US Sin!" Ivy growled. "There isn't 'us' if you like to be called Sin fine, but it doesn't apply to me!" Sin's body shuddered changing, now a mangled bloody image of Ivy. It grinned and maniacal laughter followed. "You clearly don't UNDERSTAND do you?" The twisted mirror image inquired. "I'm you Ivy, the PURE you." With a quick smile Sin dissolved into thin air and quickly after reappearing again this time curling its twisted body around that of Ivy.

Wet slick blood clung to Ivy's snow-white pelt adding a crimson hue to it. "LET me in so we can be ONE again." Sin's cold voice whispered into Ivy's ear. "Let me HELP you accept us, let me give you a PUSH." Just at that moment Ullr broke through the foliage screaming. "Get of my mommy!" Oh, Tsalice please no. "Great TIMING don't you think?" Sin hissed with glee.

"Ullr run! Don't come closer! Get away!" Ivy screams in horror. Please let him get away. "No I won't let HIM go." In horror Ivy watched as Sin shot forward, too fast for her or Ullr to react, it's disfigured jaw was already locked into Ullr's throat. "Release him." Ivy screamed, desperation filling her voice. Sin grinned cruelly in her direction. "Mommy?" Ullr voice came out weak. Scrabbling through her paws Ivy raced to them. No, no, no please I don't want to lose him. "SAY goodbye." The monster said cheerfully. Desperation fueled Ivy to speed forward, but the gut-wrenching crunch of bones followed by the lifeless thud, made Ivy collapse.

"No." Ivy's voice was hoarse, she tried to swallow, but her mouth was as dry as a desert. Defeated she dragged herself to the lifeless corpse of Ullr, Sin grinned triumphantly at her broken state. Ivy was alone now alone with the corpse of her son, defeated she curls around Ullr. His fur was so dirty, so sticky with blood. So filthy. Slowly she started mindlessly lapping his fur clean back to its pure state. Why won't this filth come? Why? Why? Sin just watched from a distance. "I'm so sorry my child. I couldn't protect you." Ivy's eyes started to water. "It's all my fault. You trusted me as your mother, your caregiver, your… your protector. Now you're dead because of me." A heavy shudder wrecked Ivy's body, her tears started flowing. "I failed as a mother, as a provider, and as your protector." Ivy's body shuddered again as her breath clung in her throat, the taste of despair filled her mouth. "I'm so sorry Ullr. So, so sorry. I can't…" Ivy cried out, pain, grief, hate tearing apart her heart and mind. "Why did you take him from me?" She screamed at Sin who had made herself comfortable. "Why, must you do this to me?" Ivy continued her voice painfully raw. Sin just shrugs in response. "Why?" Ivy collapses further, her whole body shuddering with each painful sob. "My dear Ullr, I'm so sorry. You helped me so much, and yet I repay you with your death. There aren't enough words to describe how sorry I feel, and how much I hate myself." Ivy burrowed her face into Ullr soft fur. "Don't ever forgive me for what I did to you." Ivy turned towards the sky tears streaming

down her face, and she screamed so, so loud her voice full of pain and grief. It spread through the forest like a haunting melody.

Ivy stared back at Ullr corpse, her mind a mess. Ullr wasn't the only thing to die at that moment Ivy's emotions went with him. Life is pain. Sin looked at her a chuckle rising from her throat. "Perfect, WE can finally be ONE again." Deep inside Ivy's mind the chains holding a box closed snap releasing all its content. My life is empty devoid of emotion. My brethren all killed, my son killed by my paws. I don't want anyone to feel happiness anymore, I will steal everyone's burdensome emotions. Slowly Ivy rose to her paws, her vision turning red. Five flesh bags two male the rest female burst through the bushes. I loathe you, you killed my brethren, yet you still dare show emotion. With a massive leap Ivy lands on one of the females, and bites down into her jugular letting blood flow. Blood so calming, yet so haunting a reminder that Ullr's dead and I'm the cause. One of the males grabs Ivy by the neck. "Get your filthy hands of me." She snarls, and with a flick of her ear she bashes his skull in with a massive rock, her mana doesn't decrease, however. Mana is an instrument, and if I don't have enough I can always sacrifice the time I have left in this Tsalice forsaken place. She jumps to the second female and rams her claws into her eyes before removing them and placing them deep into her sleep, with a thud the lifeless corpse drops to the ground. The other female was already slashing down with her sword, Ivy met her eyes which widened after seeing her cold gaze. Ivy shifted and kicked the blade out of its wielder's hand, before grabbing it herself and plunging it deep into her opponent's stomach. The woman wobbled, while the remaining male went in for a punch which Ivy dodged, and quickly followed up by kicking the woman's legs from under her. She cried out in pain when she collided with the ground. Ivy turned toward the men who was also stumbling from missing his punch, and without waiting Ivy plunged her hand into his back grabbed his spine and snapped it, paralyzing him from the waist down, and he dropped like a sack of potatoes. Turning around Ivy walked towards the woman who was desperately crawling away. Ivy's pace however remained the same, she was already eating up the space between them. Arrived she Gave a vicious kick to the woman's head, causing her to drop onto her back. Ivy grinned though she didn't feel any emotion with it. She places her food onto the woman chest before lifting it and stomping repeatedly on it until it caved in. Now covered in blood Ivy turned and walked to the man. Squatting down she stared into his eyes. "I will get rid of your troublesome emotions now." Ivy's voice was painfully monotone. With a quick swipe of her clawed hand Ivy ripped open his stomach, pulled out his guts before ramming them down his throat. Content Ivy sat up and left she knew he was still alive, but she wanted to cure Luna of her emotions as fast as possible.

Ivy arrived at the den, her eyes were as cold and emotionless as she felt. There in the far corner in the right of the den Luna slept peacefully unaware of the grave danger she was in. Ivy's eye scanned the room there next to her lay a bundle of fur, warmth radiated from it. It will probably escape if I heal Luna from her burdens first, so I will start curing it first. It will scream less loud… I think. The thought quickly shot through her mind. Decisively she changed courses towards the heap of fur. It slept so peaceful, so happy as if there weren't any dangers in the world. Ivy opened her jaw in preparation to rip out its throat when it shifted. He feels familiar, like I know this creature. The white pelt shifted slightly with the tiny movements the creature made. His face is so familiar… familiar… family. Ivy narrowed her eye, and recognition flared through her body. Ullr? Wait that means… no, no, no. The Ullr I saw die was something Sin pulled. With desperation Ivy tried to pull away, but her body refused to reply instead her muscles tensed to pounce, saliva drooping down her teeth. No, why doesn't my body want to comply? Ullr wake up. Please! Please! Ivy willed the thoughts to words but no sound came out. Oh, Tsalice I'm going to murder Ullr for real this time. Sin popped her ugly face out the ground. "You will RID us of our BURDEN. Now KILL him!" She snarled the command, and with a massive snarl Ivy pounced.
