To showcase the results of the special training led by the island guardian, Tapu Bulu personally organized a "Move Demonstration."
The first to take the stage in front of Kai and Kukui was Serperior.
Honestly, since he had been busy climbing Mount Lanakila with Kukui, Kai had left Serperior and the others in Tapu Bulu's care without much worry. As the Grassy Terrain expert, Tapu Bulu seemed like the perfect instructor. Kai, preoccupied with training Growlithe, hadn't been keeping track of their progress.
However, the moment Serperior demonstrated the moves it had learned, Kai couldn't hold back his reaction.
Serperior showcased two moves.
The first was Seed Bomb, a decently powerful attack—apparently, it had naturally grasped the move after consuming a large number of berries cultivated by Tapu Bulu.
The second move was Grass Glide, which granted incredibly fast movement while attacking, with speed increasing even further when used under Grassy Terrain.
Kai stared at Serperior in disbelief. "That's it? You only learned two offensive moves?!"
Serperior turned its head away, avoiding eye contact.
What could it do?
Even after days of being nourished by the plant energy from Tapu Bulu's Grassy Terrain, and even experiencing some strength growth, it simply couldn't learn what it wasn't meant to learn!
Kai then shifted his deadpan gaze toward Tapu Bulu, whose eyes darted away uncomfortably.
Great. Even the island guardian had given up on teaching Serperior Grassy Terrain.
"Even Tapu Bulu couldn't teach Serperior Grassy Terrain…"
Kukui glanced between Serperior, Tapu Bulu, and Kai, his face filled with genuine shock. He had thought Kai was exaggerating, but now he saw the truth—Serperior's compatibility with Grassy Terrain was absolutely abysmal!
Noticing Kukui's stunned stare, Serperior was irritated, but unlike with Kai, it didn't immediately lash out with its vines and whip Kukui's rear.
After all, Serperior had already decided that outside of battle, its Vine Whip would only be used on Kai.
Fortunately, the three Eldegoss made up for it.
Three green waves of energy rippled outward, spreading across the ground as vibrant, glowing greenery sprouted beneath them.
Upon closer inspection, the glow came from countless blades of lush, verdant grass, covering the open mountainside. A gentle breeze swept through, rustling the fresh growth with a soft, whispering sound.
Individually, a single Eldegoss could only create a Grassy Terrain about the size of a basketball court. But thanks to Tapu Bulu's training, the three of them had learned to layer their Grassy Terrain together, significantly expanding the area.
And that wasn't all.
Now that Comfey had joined the team after being captured by Kai, it had also started participating in their training.
Despite being a Fairy-type, Comfey was also capable of learning Grassy Terrain—and under Tapu Bulu's guidance, it had mastered the move perfectly.
With a fourth Pokémon contributing, the radius of Grassy Terrain expanded even further.
Under normal circumstances, Pokémon moves wouldn't be compatible unless they were carefully trained to synchronize. Even identical moves, when used by different Pokémon, would typically clash rather than blend.
The usual outcome? Energy collisions, followed by explosions.
Yet here, the four Pokémon's Grassy Terrain moves merged seamlessly, as if they had always been one unified force.

Kai looked at Tapu Bulu with a puzzled expression. Its wise yet good-natured eyes curved slightly, almost as if to openly hint at something—within just a few days, Tapu Bulu hadn't only taught Eldegoss and Comfey how to use Grassy Terrain, but it had also helped them refine it into a combination technique!
Tapu Bulu glanced at Kai and suddenly spoke. "Moo~moo, moo!"
Kai was momentarily stunned before interpreting its meaning. "You're saying that originally, you wanted to teach Serperior the essence of Grassy Terrain, but since it just couldn't grasp it, you had to settle for helping the weaker Eldegoss instead? But because they were still too inexperienced to learn the true essence, you ended up developing this four-way fusion of Grassy Terrain instead?"
"Sssss..."
Before Tapu Bulu could respond, Kai let out a sharp breath, stunned.
Should he have expected anything less from a master of Grassy Terrain? Tapu Bulu's command over the move was simply on another level.
With Eldegoss and Comfey's demonstration complete, Serperior extended its vines, patting each of them on the head with a look of approval.
After all, those Eldegoss were its subordinates. If they had mastered Grassy Terrain, then in a way, that meant Serperior had mastered it too. The outcome was practically the same!
The final Pokémon to take the stage was Mudbray, who had been steadily refining its Rototiller technique under Tapu Bulu's guidance.
Kai straightened up, fully focused.
If Grassy Terrain influenced crop growth rates and vitality, then soil was the foundation of everything. Only nutrient-rich soil could produce the finest crops.
Compared to a few days ago, Mudbray's Rototiller had improved by several magnitudes in both speed and precision. It no longer needed to painstakingly loosen the soil by digging individual holes with its hooves. Now, by channeling Ground-type energy, the earth itself shifted and turned, becoming soft and fertile.
Kai crouched down to inspect the soil. While it still wasn't at the level of the rich, dark soil Tapu Bulu could create, it was already Excellent.
The soil's fine, aerated texture and the subtle but undeniable surge of nutrients—personally approved by Tapu Bulu—spoke volumes.
If there were a game interface, Mudbray's mastery of Rototiller would have gone from Beginner to Advanced. With continued training, as its level and experience grew, reaching Master wouldn't be impossible.
On that note, Tapu Bulu's Rototiller was probably at God-tier.
It was truly impressive—within just a few short days, Tapu Bulu had helped Eldegoss, Comfey, and Mudbray achieve incredible mastery over Grassy Terrain and Rototiller.

That afternoon, due to the time constraints of his break, Kai knew he couldn't stay in Alola much longer.
Besides, he had Pokémon waiting for him back home.
After carefully cleaning up all traces of his camp, he recalled his Pokémon into their Poké Balls. Slinging his backpack over his shoulders, he turned to Tapu Bulu and offered a deep, respectful bow.
"Honorable island guardian, Tapu Bulu, I sincerely thank you for your guidance over my partners these past few days."
As one of Alola's guardian deities, Tapu Bulu deserved formal respect, and Kai made sure his tone reflected that.
Tapu Bulu silently observed him for a moment, as if recalling something. Then, from within the crevices of its hooves, it produced two Z-Crystals, extending them toward Kai.
Kai's mouth twitched. What is this, some kind of fourth-dimensional treasure vault hidden in its hooves?
Regardless, he recognized the crystals in his palm—one vibrant green, the other earthy brown.
Kukui instantly understood and let out an envious chuckle. "Looks like Tapu Bulu is giving you a Grassium ZÂ and Groundium Z."
Kai glanced at Tapu Bulu for confirmation. After receiving its silent approval, he nodded.
"In that case, I humbly accept your generosity."
"Moo moo~"
Tapu Bulu gave a small nod, waved a hoof in farewell, and—without waiting for Kai to leave—wandered off to a comfortable spot before promptly lying down for a nap.
Kai chuckled softly.
Climbing onto the back of the eagerly waiting Dragonite, he whispered, "Let's go. Time to head home."
Dragonite gave a firm nod, eyes gleaming with excitement. "Bwooo!"
With a powerful beat of its wings, the two soared into the sky, heading back toward Paldea.
