As Yusei expected, not long after they left, Syrus and Chumley contacted the Academy.
Students disappearing from the old dorm was naturally a top-priority matter, so it was reported to the Academy's board of directors. KaibaCorp sent a relevant team to investigate, and Mokuba, who happened to hear about it, came along.
Yusei briefly recounted his experiences and observations from his trip to the spirit dimension. After giving his statement, he chatted with Mokuba.
"I see, the Orichalcos God from the new Doma has already invaded many spirit dimensions simultaneously," Mokuba mused. "And you actually encountered one of the new three swordsmen?
It's a miracle you managed to win. I heard none of the three swordsmen are easy to deal with..."
"Just lucky, just lucky," Yusei said, feigning lingering fear. "But the situation at the time was truly perilous and extremely difficult. Jaden and I, two against one, struggled immensely and barely managed to win..."
However, this time, before he could finish, Mokuba had already interrupted his narrative.
"Mm-hmm, it's always better to strengthen your deck as much as possible. You still need rare cards, right?"
Yusei smiled.
It was indeed easier to deal with acquaintances. Mokuba already had a tacit understanding with him.
"I thought you might say that before I came," Mokuba chuckled. "Coincidentally, I heard that the Black Luster Soldier research team has made progress recently, thanks to the information you provided earlier. I estimate it won't be long before the research team contacts you."
"When that happens, you might as well come to the headquarters. I'll see what I can get for you."
Yusei's eyes lit up.
KaibaCorp's headquarters, that would be great.
He'd go there to see what good stuff they had.
Yusei had actually listed out some ideas for different decks these past few days. He would sometimes think about the shortcomings of his current decks when facing different situations, and then, to compensate for those shortcomings against specific opponents, various new strategies and deck-building ideas would naturally emerge.
Sometimes, new ideas would arise from newly acquired cards, and he would then try to build a new deck with a certain card as its core. Just like his recently completed Abyss Control deck.
That deck's components were quite versatile and easy to acquire, but he still had many ideas that lacked key components. The list of missing cards was now quite long.
Especially after getting the "Phoenix God Nephtys" this time, he felt that his main deck could be upgraded further.
It was precisely the World Champion deck of that year: Chaos Phoenix God of Mutation.
From the name, one could tell the three core components of this deck: Chaos Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning, Phoenix God Nephtys, and Metamorphosis.
Chaos Soldier goes without saying: an absolute main attacker, the strongest beatstick in the environment. Phoenix God Nephtys's 2400 ATK was also very strong at the time, and it had resurrection immunity against various mainstream field-clearing spell/trap cards, and it came with a "Heavy Storm"-like spell/trap clearing effect, also very powerful.
Metamorphosis allowed monsters on his field to transform into Fusion Monsters based on different situations, easily bringing out various powerful Fusion Monsters to deal with various circumstances. It could be said to be a top-tier deck that performed exceptionally well in both offense and defense.
However, in the concept of this deck, he was still missing quite a few things.
For example, Fusion Monsters. Perhaps because GX was also called the "Fusion Era," he quickly discovered that Fusion Monsters of this era were especially expensive. Even the prices of those common Fusion Monsters he didn't even care for made him frown, and overall, they were relatively scarce.
The Fusion Monsters currently available for purchase that he could get his hands on were not very appealing to him, and even if he did acquire them, he felt the price was a huge loss. Most of the Fusion Monsters he listed as wanted were generally hard to buy.
The opportunity Mokuba was providing now was an excellent one. KaibaCorp's headquarters shouldn't be short of these items. It looked like another big haul was coming his way.
KaibaCorp's professional personnel had already surrounded the old dorm room, with people constantly going in and out, carrying equipment for surveying and investigating. Yusei and Mokuba leaned against the outer perimeter, chatting idly. Yusei also took the opportunity to ask about the President's recent situation, especially the progress of the investigation into the new Doma.
But Mokuba only shook his head when he mentioned this.
"It's not that there's no progress... We've eliminated many hideouts and eradicated many dark duelists' forces that were colluding with them. I believe this has affected their organization's operations, but it's hard to say if it's damaged their foundation."
Mokuba sighed.
"The main reason is that we realized it a bit late. Dartz established the power of the old Doma back then, spreading it throughout the world, permeating both the business and political spheres to its core."
"Later, although Brother and Yugi teamed up to defeat Dartz, such a massive organization couldn't just disappear. We suspect that the current new Doma was rebuilt from the remnants of that organization, which is why it's so vast and not so easy to deal with."
He paused, Mokuba furrowing his brow.
"Also, the hacker incident has been a bit distracting for us recently."
Yusei asked, "The hacker who broke into the Kaiba Land arena? Have you found out who it was?"
"It's precisely because we haven't found them that it's such a headache. It's truly strange, how could such a powerful hacker appear out of nowhere in the world? There's still no trace of them."
Mokuba's hands were in his pockets. He looked a bit dejected as he said this.
"And they just had to choose this critical moment for the development of the 'Link System'..."
"'Link System'?" Yusei asked.
This term hadn't appeared either in the academy or online yet; this was the first time he'd heard of it.
"Oh, right, this hasn't been made public yet, it's a trade secret, so I won't tell you too much for now." Mokuba chuckled. "But you'll probably see it next time you come to headquarters. Just look forward to it as a surprise."
As they chatted, an expert quickly stepped forward to report.
"The preliminary on-site analysis is complete. Subsequent data will need to be processed back at headquarters," the person reported. "However, we speculate that the main reason is that something happened in this old dorm room many years ago, causing the space here to be relatively unstable."
"So, if a supernatural force similar to a spirit approaches, there's a certain probability of a dimensional rift appearing. But that should be an accidental phenomenon; the readings have already returned to normal now."
Something that happened in the old dorm many years ago...
Yusei thought about it, combining it with the original work. He estimated it was probably referring to the major plot hole that ran through the entire GX main storyline: the Darkness incident.
Years ago, a group of students who were asking for trouble researched dark powers here and connected with Darkness, the final antagonist of GX. All the relevant students later disappeared here, and this abandoned dorm thus became a dimensional weak point.
"Understood."
Mokuba looked at Yusei.
"It's good that you're both alright. Today's investigation should be finished for now. Go back and rest first. See you in a few days."
Yusei also let out a long yawn: "Alright, I should go back and catch up on some sleep too. I'm off."
He had unexpectedly ventured into another dimension and messed around until now. After returning, he was incredibly sleepy. Fortunately, tomorrow was the weekend, so he planned to go back and at least sleep for a whole morning before doing anything else.
Outside the door, students and teachers who had heard the news and came to watch saw the people involved emerge from the dorm and couldn't help but point and whisper.
"Hiss~ He's actually chatting and laughing with that Mokuba Kaiba. What's this student's background?"
"I heard someone say... something about him being seen by the legendary Seto Kaiba himself."
"No way, really?"
