Chapter 527: I'm Gonna Kill You, You Bastard!
If Lin Yuxia were given the chance, she would genuinely want to crack open Santiago's skull and take a good look at what on earth was inside.
Was it really impossible for him to feel at ease unless he had some kind of explosive on him? She'd seen people give gifts before, but never in her life had she seen someone gift a bomb vest.
"Do you even realize what you're doing?"
She stared straight into his eyes, hoping—desperately—that he might suddenly come to his senses and recognize just how absurd his actions were. But honestly, she already felt like she'd lost the will to even talk to him.
At this rate, being driven to death by sheer frustration felt like a matter of time.
"Of course I do. It's only fair, right?" Steven replied casually. "You gave me a piece of clothing you wore, so I'm returning the favor with something I've worn too. That way, we're even. No need to thank me, it's just what I should do."
He flashed her a simple, honest smile, like some good kid who'd done a kind deed without expecting recognition.
"Yeah, wow, I really should thank you."
Lin Yuxia had no idea how to respond anymore. She could practically feel her blood pressure skyrocketing into the hundreds. Just looking at his face made her want to bite him alive. As for continuing this conversation? She'd rather live a few years longer, thank you very much.
To avoid dying young from hypertension, she simply shut her mouth and silently swore never to initiate another conversation with him again. Talking to this guy was just too hazardous for her health.
But just because she chose to ignore Steven didn't mean he'd let her off so easily.
Having finally found such an entertaining girl to mess with, Steven was clearly having the time of his life.
"No need for thanks, really. You're the one benefiting here anyway. Whether you accept it or not is up to you," he said, sounding almost regretful as he stuffed the bomb vest back into his inventory when she made no move to take it. "Oh right, there's actually something else I might need your help with."
Lin Yuxia nearly slipped and fell flat on her face.
At this point, hearing him speak felt no different from a ghost whispering doom into her ear. If she could, she would've run as far away from him as possible.
"…Go on. I'll listen."
No matter what, she still understood that they were in the middle of a mission. No matter how ridiculous Santiago was, as long as he wasn't targeting her directly, she had no choice but to cooperate as much as possible.
—Well, except for things like earlier. Asking her to wear a bomb vest? That kind of nonsense could go straight to hell.
"It's fine, you'll definitely be able to help," Steven said. "You see, I might get into a tiny bit of conflict with those Umbrella guys later. But, well… my identity can't really be exposed, you know?"
He shifted awkwardly, but his gaze was locked—shamelessly—onto the one remaining black stocking still on Lin Yuxia's leg.
"You've got to be kidding me—"
Even with her refined upbringing, Lin Yuxia nearly let out a full-blown curse.
This bastard—could he get any worse?
Why the hell was he still fixated on her?!
So he really had his eyes on both of her stockings, huh? Could this guy get any more of a pervert?
Lin Yuxia turned around and pointed straight at Santiago with her finger. She didn't say a word—but her expression said everything loud and clear.
Unfortunately, Steven—a man long gone insane from centuries of solitude—once again demonstrated the result of his chaotic insanity. The moment she pointed at him, he had already, somehow, pulled out that same green tube she'd seen before from who-knows-where. Smiling brightly, he returned her stare with an equally intense look.
"Are you freaking—"
The threat she wanted to spit out got forcibly swallowed back down. She had no idea how this guy kept pulling out weapons that clearly shouldn't be something you could just carry around—but now wasn't the time to question it.
After all, this time, the thing was pointed at her.
"What is it?" Steven blinked innocently at her. If not for the way he was casually shouldering that launcher like it was nothing, she might've actually been fooled by his act.
"I mean, you could've just said so earlier," Lin Yuxia replied, forcing a stiff smile. "I could've gone and bought you a few brand-new pairs. Much cleaner that way. You can layer as many as you want."
Inside her mind, she had already stabbed a little voodoo doll version of Santiago a thousand times and cursed him to forever find any of his food undercooked. But right now, she had no choice but to play along.
"No need. I like it this way—ahem, I mean, that'd take too long," Steven waved it off, then nodded toward her remaining black-stocking-clad leg. "I trust you're a clean person anyway. And wearing just one isn't exactly practical, right? Why not just give me the other one too?"
"And hurry up," he added impatiently. "I don't like wasting time on this kind of thing."
Anyone overhearing him might think he was discussing something extremely important.
"..."
Expressionless, Lin Yuxia bent down and removed her last stocking. Having now manually completed her "transformation," she bit down on her lower lip, her face full of unwilling humiliation as she tossed the still-warm fabric straight at him.
This guy had taken "being unreasonable" to an entirely new level. Not only did nothing he said make sense, but everything he did was absurd to the extreme. Worse still—she couldn't do a damn thing about it.
To this day, she had no idea how he managed to pull out those bizarre, dangerous weapons. Even if she was confident she could subdue him before he reached for them, she couldn't guarantee he wouldn't suddenly turn into a walking suicide bomb in the process.
And the worst part? Given his current identity, she absolutely couldn't let him die here in Lungmen.
Which meant all the rage boiling inside her had nowhere to go.
As for Steven, he had absolutely no idea what kind of emotional storm the girl in front of him was going through.
—Or rather, even if he did, it would probably just make him enjoy this even more.
With practiced ease, Steven tore the stocking he'd just received into two pieces. Holding the upper half—the part that had been wrapped around her thigh—he glanced at the remaining piece in his hand, then shifted his gaze back to Lin Yuxia, who looked like she was on the verge of exploding.
"Oh right, there's still some left," he said casually. "If you don't mind the smell being a bit… strong, maybe you could try wearing it too?"
"Feels like a waste to just throw it away."
He held the remaining half out toward her, his tone perfectly normal.
Which only made it worse.
"…I'm going to kill you, you bastard!"
