Chapter 123 - Chapter 123: Watching From the Sidelines

Zhang Yi didn't need to do anything complicated for the time being.

All he had to do was go out every day, pretending to gather food, and then distribute it to the neighbors in the community.

Soon, something delightful would unfold—watching the internal conflicts erupt within the other apartment buildings!

Breaking down the enemy from within is always the quickest way.

Zhang Yi returned home and, as usual, checked the surveillance on his phone to see the situation inside his house.

After confirming that everything was normal and Zhou Ke'er was still in her room, he opened the door and entered.

He unlocked Zhou Ke'er's door for her, then went to take a long, hot shower.

After spending the whole day outside, the cold-weather gear protected him from frostbite, but his skin still felt the chill, causing his pores to contract.

It was only when he turned on the shower and felt the warm water cascading down his body with a "whoosh" that the tension in his body began to melt away.

Zhang Yi washed his face with satisfaction, feeling incredibly fortunate.

"This state of affairs won't last much longer," he murmured to himself.

"As soon as I take out those who caused trouble, I'll find a way to leave this place and settle somewhere more comfortable."

A month had passed since his rebirth, and Zhang Yi had eliminated most of the people responsible for his death in his previous life. His methods of revenge were far more ruthless than the ways they had wronged him in the past.

Next, Zhang Yi would clean up the rest of the community, naturally getting rid of the remaining troublemakers along the way.

When that time came, he planned to dismantle the safe house and move it elsewhere. The safe house was incredibly sturdy, and Zhang Yi's current plan was to find a large amount of explosives to blow up the entire building.

Everything inside the safe house could be stored in his dimensional space. As for the safe house's outer shell, it was made of lightweight, durable aerospace materials, capable of surviving even a fall into deep snow with minimal damage.

After all, this thing could withstand the friction of a spacecraft re-entering a planet's atmosphere!

"It won't take much longer to deal with these guys," Zhang Yi thought with a contented smile.

Soon, he would bury his hatred and pain in this place and begin a new life.

After finishing his shower, Zhang Yi wrapped himself in a towel and went to unlock Zhou Ke'er's door.

Zhou Ke'er was sitting on the bed with a flushed face, her long, slender legs tightly clamped together, as if she was trying to hold something in.

When Zhang Yi opened the door, she kept her head down, not daring to look at him, and hurriedly rushed to the bathroom.

Zhang Yi rubbed his chin and wondered, "Was she just... No way! I've been feeding her well lately; she shouldn't have reached that point."

Soon, he heard the unmistakable sound of running water.

Suddenly realizing what had happened, he slapped his forehead and chuckled, "I locked her up all day; she must've been holding it in for a long time!"

A mischievous grin appeared on his face. "She's really particular, isn't she? She could've just used a bottle if it was that bad!"

Not long after, Zhou Ke'er emerged from the bathroom, her face still flushed with embarrassment. She looked utterly drained, as if the ordeal had left her exhausted.

Zhang Yi walked over, wrapped one arm around her slender waist, and grasped her wrist with his other hand.

"You alright?" he asked with a playful smirk.

Zhou Ke'er shot him a fierce glare, her eyes seemingly asking, "Are you serious? You still want to tease me after all this?"

Zhang Yi chuckled, "You know I like it a little rough!"

Her flustered and embarrassed state only piqued Zhang Yi's interest further. Without paying any attention to her frustration or awkwardness, he picked her up and tossed her onto the couch.

Soon, the room was filled with soft, melodic sounds, accompanied by a rhythmic drumming.

Primitive communication, after all, is an excellent stress reliever.

In these moments, Zhang Yi could forget all of his troubles.

...

While Zhang Yi was indulging in life's pleasures at home, the other building leaders had just received the food brought by their subordinates.

Looking at the plastic bags full of supplies, the expressions on the building leaders' faces varied, though most were tinged with disappointment.

The ten-person portion of food was merely the basic daily amount, small enough to fit into a single plastic bag.

Over in the Crazy Wolf Gang's territory, Wang Qiang didn't care about his subordinates; he rushed forward and tore open the plastic bag, rummaging through it frantically. Finally, he pulled out a pack of Jinwan cigarettes!

Wang Qiang's eyes lit up, holding the pack of cigarettes as if it were a treasure.

Not just him, but his nearby lackeys also stared at the pack, their throats involuntarily twitching.

These guys were all seasoned smokers, and because of the apocalypse, they hadn't had a smoke in nearly a month. They were on the verge of madness, their tempers increasingly short.

Now that they saw cigarettes, how could they not be excited?

The second-in-command, Xiao Lu, couldn't hold back and asked, "Boss, can I have one of those?"

The other lackeys, emboldened, also spoke up, "Boss, give us a cigarette too!"

"We're going crazy without a smoke; if we don't get one soon, we'll want to die!"

Wang Qiang's brow furrowed, his face turning stern.

Normally, he smoked a pack a day, and this one pack was just enough for him alone. If he shared it, half the pack would be gone!

But when he saw the bloodshot eyes and desperate looks on his subordinates' faces, Wang Qiang was startled.

After thinking for a moment, he said, "These cigarettes weren't easy to come by. I forced Zhang Yi to bring them for me."

"You're my brothers, so I'll let you have a taste. But from now on, work hard for me!"

The lackeys weren't really listening to what Wang Qiang said; as long as they got to smoke, they'd agree to anything.

Wang Qiang gritted his teeth as he handed out the cigarettes, trembling as he did so, his heart bleeding with each one.

The Crazy Wolf Gang members, on the other hand, were overjoyed as they lit up their cigarettes and wandered off to smoke, tears of happiness filling their eyes.

Only seasoned smokers could understand just how blissful this moment was.

It was as if a lonely widow had met a strong, young man—absolute joy!

But, like all good things, it was short-lived. Soon, the cigarettes were finished.

Wang Qiang had already pocketed the remaining half-pack, saving them for himself.

Seeing the disappointed glances from his men, he pretended not to notice.

"Ahem, alright, let's divide up the food now!"

He opened the plastic bag, revealing the contents—stale bread, biscuits, and other subpar food items.

Yet, in Wang Qiang's eyes, these were treasures!

Who knew how long they had been living off nothing but roasted food, craving anything resembling normal human meals!

"Gulp—"

Wang Qiang swallowed his saliva but resisted grabbing the bread. Instead, he beckoned one of his men over.

The lackey, confused, approached. Wang Qiang smiled and handed him a piece of bread.

"Xu Yi, you're the weakest among us. You eat first!"
