Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: The Gas Station

Zhang Yi knew this area too well. In the entire Tianhai City, hundreds of corporate warehouses were concentrated here, both large and small.

If he could gather all the supplies from these warehouses, it wouldn't just be enough for himself; even feeding thousands of people wouldn't be a problem.

However, the biggest issue was whether those supplies were still there.

Zhang Yi took out his handgun and crowbar and went to the nearby Carrefour warehouse to check.

Using the crowbar, he smashed the window from the top.

When he peered inside, he found that the vast warehouse had already been completely emptied.

"Has someone already moved the goods?" Zhang Yi thought to himself.

He had expected this, so he wasn't particularly surprised.

He continued checking other warehouses, and the result was the same.

Medical supplies, daily necessities, food—even snacks and pet food—had all been taken.

"As I thought."

"When the disaster struck, the official experts would be the first to report the situation. The higher-ups definitely moved the supplies."

This was also why Zhang Yi had emptied out the Walmart warehouse a week in advance.

He knew that once disaster struck, the powerful elites would prioritize themselves, not caring about the survival of ordinary people.

Zhang Yi didn't give up on searching.

There were hundreds of warehouses here, and maybe there was something left behind that could be useful to him.

Sure enough, after working for a while, Zhang Yi found a warehouse used for storing cars.

The warehouse spanned over a million square meters, and the space was incredibly spacious.

Cars were neatly arranged on steel racks, like sardines in a can.

There were many luxury cars inside, some of which were worth millions before the apocalypse!

But now, they were entirely useless; Zhang Yi couldn't think of any purpose for them.

After seeing so many vehicles, Zhang Yi also felt that they were pretty much a waste of space.

He clicked his tongue, hesitated for a moment, then gritted his teeth, "Well, there's still a lot of room in the space. I'll store them for now. Who knows, maybe they'll be useful later?"

Men were all fond of cars.

Seeing so many expensive luxury cars, Zhang Yi couldn't resist but decided to collect them, even though they were unusable at the moment. At least he could admire them, treating them like high-end models.

So, he picked out a dozen of his favorite cars and stored them in his alternate space.

The whole day was spent scouring the warehouse district.

Most of the warehouses had been emptied, leaving behind only items that were too difficult to transport.

For example, large mechanical equipment or bulk construction materials.

Food and everyday essentials? Not a trace.

Zhang Yi gritted his teeth, endured the frustration, and continued picking up various items like he was scavenging.

Heavy-duty trucks, excavators, Rolls-Royce Phantoms, bulldozers...

"What if I need these later?"

Zhang Yi kept telling himself.

Then, he realized how absurd his thinking was. In this cold, snowy world, driving these vehicles even a centimeter would be impossible. What good would they do?

Fortunately, the alternate space was big enough, so he could store these vehicles without issue.

After a long day of searching, Zhang Yi felt that he had gathered enough.

There was no further value in continuing to explore; besides, he didn't have any urgent needs for other things at the moment.

He took out a chocolate bar from his space and quickly devoured it.

While eating, the cold wind rushed into his mouth, making the experience a little unpleasant.

There was no way to drink hot water now. If he opened a bottle, it would cool down in less than a minute.

Zhang Yi scooped up some snow from the ground and ate it, trying to get some water that way.

Then, something occurred to him.

He had collected many vehicles, which made him think about gasoline and diesel.

His alternate space already stored enough gasoline and diesel for daily use.

However, considering the current situation, he would be using the snowmobile a lot as a means of transportation.

That meant the stored fuel might not last long enough.

With that in mind, Zhang Yi decided to go to the gas station and see if he could get more fuel.

Zhang Yi hopped onto the snowmobile and, after some thought, headed toward the largest gas station in Tianhai City.

Soon enough, he arrived at the location he remembered.

However, when he saw the scene in front of him, he let out a long puff of white smoke.

The massive gas station had been completely buried under snow.

Zhang Yi could only judge its location by the surrounding tall buildings.

Though he had mentally prepared for it, he still felt a bit disappointed.

"The gas station doesn't have tall buildings. Does that mean I won't be able to find a place to refuel?"

"Damn it!"

Zhang Yi frowned, feeling helpless about the situation.

Given the current thickness of the snow, it was practically impossible to dig through by hand.

And who knew how long the snow disaster would last?

Did this mean he'd have to conserve fuel?

Based on the fuel reserves in his alternate space and the snowmobile's consumption rate, it might be depleted in just twenty years.

That wasn't good news at all!

"Human power is really weak. If only I could use heavy machinery to dig."

Zhang Yi laughed bitterly at himself.

Just as he was about to turn the key and leave, he suddenly seemed to have an idea.

"Excavation equipment?"

"Could excavators work?"

He had just picked up several vehicles from the warehouse, including a few excavators.

At first, he had planned to collect them for later, hoping they might be useful one day.

He hadn't expected to need them so soon!

Using an excavator to dig through the snow would be easy.

To be honest, this situation was quite rare.

After all, on the old planet, it was uncommon to see such deep snow.

And nobody drove an excavator to the Arctic; they used icebreakers.

However, after carefully considering it, Zhang Yi believed that this idea would definitely work!

The snow had only been accumulating for less than a month, and it hadn't formed a solid ice layer yet. An excavator could easily dig through it!

The snow beneath the surface was probably only a few meters thick. He just needed to dig down to an entrance like a door or window and break through.

It wouldn't take too long.

"Possible!"

Zhang Yi didn't waste time. He immediately retrieved a large excavator from his alternate space.

"Bang!"

The nearly 20-ton excavator slammed onto the ground and sank a meter into the snow!

Zhang Yi chuckled at the sight. "Well, this works out, saves me from digging further."

The snow on the surface was still relatively thin and couldn't support such a heavy weight.

But the snow underneath should be packed down more tightly.

Zhang Yi was operating the excavator for the first time, but it wasn't a big problem.

He had operated cranes, forklifts, and large trucks before when working in the warehouse.

This wasn't much different, and he quickly figured out how to drive it.

Although he couldn't claim to be a master, he could at least manage.
