Chapter 69 - Chapter 69: Feeling Refreshed

This night was destined to be incredibly long.

By the time it was over, it was already the early hours of the next day.

Zhou Ke'er lay weakly on the bed, completely unable to move. Zhang Yi covered her with a blanket, and she soon fell into a deep sleep.

Zhang Yi locked the door from the outside, keeping the only key with him.

Business is business, but there must still be basic principles.

Even though Zhang Yi knew that Zhou Ke'er was a kind person, allowing her to come inside and survive was already more than enough.

He had no plans to lower his guard against her in the short term.

After taking a shower, he also returned to the bedroom to rest.

He slept for half the day, and when he woke up, he felt refreshed, his eyes even brighter than usual.

Indeed, Taoism hadn't deceived him—balancing yin and yang was indeed beneficial for one's health.

This kind of beneficial exercise had to be done more often in the future.

Zhang Yi checked the surveillance camera and saw that Zhou Ke'er was still sleeping soundly in bed.

Yesterday, Zhang Yi had been a little too demanding, and she wasn't able to endure the punishment.

Zhang Yi got dressed and went to the living room.

As he passed the sofa, he noticed a small patch of blood on it.

Thinking of her slightly pained expression from last night, he was a bit surprised.

A 26-year-old female doctor, still a virgin?

Zhang Yi took some food from his storage space and placed it on the coffee table.

Then he went to Zhou Ke'er's room and unlocked the door.

Zhang Yi knocked on the door and said, "Come out and eat something."

It was quite funny. Zhang Yi had seen everything in this house clearly through the surveillance, yet he still knocked on the door out of politeness.

After all, if they were to live together long-term, basic respect was necessary.

Zhou Ke'er's voice came through, soft and tired, "Alright, I'll be there soon."

Zhang Yi went to the dining table, picked up a beef and cheese burger, and ate as he walked to the window.

Overnight, the large ice block on the balcony next door had gotten even bigger. Snow covered it in a thick white layer, but the twisted forms of ten bodies inside were still vaguely visible.

Zhou Ke'er walked out of the room, and when she saw Zhang Yi, her face flushed slightly.

As a proud graduate of a prestigious medical school, she had always carried herself with confidence and rarely showed any warmth toward men.

That's why she had remained pure until now.

After all, people from high society valued such things very highly.

But to her surprise, she hadn't given her most precious thing to her husband, nor even to her lover.

Instead, in the apocalypse, she had exchanged it for survival, giving it to a man she wasn't very familiar with.

But as she looked at Zhang Yi's tall figure, his cold yet rationally handsome face, she felt an unexpected sense of security.

For a woman, there is always something special about her first man.

Zhang Yi liked Zhou Ke'er because she was beautiful. What man wouldn't be attracted to a stunning woman with a great figure?

But as for love, that was definitely out of the question right now.

Perhaps once he fully trusted her in the future, he would gradually invest his emotions.

After all, living alone in the apocalypse was exhausting. Everyone needed some emotional support.

Zhang Yi gestured toward the table where the food was laid out.

Zhou Ke'er looked over and saw that it was steaming burgers, fried chicken, and fries.

These were items Zhang Yi had ordered in bulk from fast-food restaurants like KFC and McDonald's before the apocalypse.

Thanks to the storage space's preservation ability, the food was still hot when taken out.

Zhou Ke'er swallowed hard and couldn't resist walking over to grab a burger, taking large bites.

In the past, she had scoffed at fast food, but now it tasted so delicious it nearly brought her to tears.

In less than ten minutes, she had finished the pile of food.

Zhou Ke'er leaned back in the chair and let out a contented burp.

When she saw Zhang Yi's amused expression, she shyly covered her mouth, feeling embarrassed.

Zhang Yi didn't care about that at all.

He asked, "Are you done?"

Zhou Ke'er tilted her head and replied seriously, "I'm not completely full yet, but I shouldn't eat too much at once, or it could cause gastrointestinal issues."

"So you're done then? Come on, we've got work to do."

Zhang Yi pointed outside with his chin.

Zhou Ke'er obediently walked over.

Zhang Yi pulled two sets of cold-weather gear from his storage space, and Zhou Ke'er's eyes widened. Even though it wasn't her first time seeing this, she still found it amazing.

In her heart, she was more determined than ever to follow Zhang Yi.

In the apocalypse, very few people could survive. Only by following someone powerful could she increase her chances of staying alive.

Zhang Yi tossed a set of cold-weather gear to Zhou Ke'er and told her to put it on, while he also put on a set.

"What are we going to do?" Zhou Ke'er asked curiously.

Zhang Yi pointed at the large block of ice on the neighboring balcony. "We're going to smash that block of ice!"

Zhou Ke'er shuddered.

The bodies of those people had already fused with the ice. If they shattered the ice, the corpses would also be torn apart.

"They're already dead. Why do we need to do this?"

Zhang Yi shrugged.

"Maybe I just really hate them."

Seeing Zhou Ke'er's puzzled expression, Zhang Yi smiled and said, "Everyone in this building has tried to kill me at some point, wanting to take over my room and supplies."

"I have to do something to let them know I'm not easy to mess with."

He smirked, "In the past, they thought I was just a coward hiding at home. Not that I cared about what they thought."

"But over time, it gets annoying. It's good to remind them who they're dealing with."

There was another reason, one that Zhang Yi didn't mention, nor did he feel like explaining to Zhou Ke'er.

Zhang Yi was the type of person who never let a grudge go unavenged.

Chen Zhenghao had tried multiple times to kill him, and Zhang Yi was furious about it.

Simply freezing them to death seemed too easy for them.

Zhou Ke'er seemed to realize something, pointing at herself, "You… you're not going to make me do it again, are you?"

She was exasperated.

It seemed like she had been the one doing all the work to deal with Chen Zhenghao and his people from the beginning.

And now that Chen Zhenghao and his group were dead, was Zhang Yi still too scared to act?

Zhang Yi said seriously, "This is called being cautious!"

Nonsense! What if I go over there, and you shut the window on me?

Although all of Zhang Yi's supplies were in the storage space, so he wouldn't starve, he wasn't about to make his life uncomfortable after living so well.

Zhou Ke'er rolled her eyes, feeling both amused and helpless.

How could someone be so cautious?

She wasn't an idiot. Why would she do something that would harm both of them?

Zhang Yi didn't care about her thoughts. He made a "please" gesture and handed her a baseball bat.

Zhou Ke'er noticed that when Zhang Yi handed her the bat, his body was clearly in a defensive stance.

She was both furious and amused by Zhang Yi's excessive caution.

Though she wasn't happy about it, her body was quite honest. She took the bat, climbed over the railing, and went to the neighboring balcony.

Meanwhile, Zhang Yi pulled out his phone and started recording.
