Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Emptying a Warehouse Worth Billions

Zhang Yi had the delivery driver bring 100 massive water barrels to his home. He then turned on all the faucets in his house and started filling the barrels with water. At this pace, he estimated it would take about a week to fill all 100 barrels. As the days passed, Zhang Yi stayed busy. He spared no expense, spending every penny he had. He ate at the best restaurants daily and bought large quantities of food from top-tier establishments, storing them in his pocket dimension. During this time, he also visited a local shooting range daily, practicing archery and firearm shooting to improve his skills. Although it was unrealistic to become a martial arts expert in a month, having bows, guns, and a fully fortified safehouse meant Zhang Yi was no longer afraid of any potential danger. However, his actions didn't go unnoticed. Everyone around him treated him like a joke, thinking he'd lost his mind. Even Fang Yuqing deliberately distanced herself from him, avoiding any interaction. Days went by, and soon, over 20 days had passed, with the apocalypse fast approaching. Zhang Yi had already collected a vast amount of supplies, including food, weapons, and heating equipment, but he still didn't feel secure enough. He decided to target Walmart's massive warehouse. If he could empty that warehouse, he'd have enough supplies to last him several lifetimes. With that plan in mind, Zhang Yi returned to the warehouse and resumed his job. The Walmart warehouse operated 24/7, but only 10 people worked the night shift. Zhang Yi decided to use a simple but effective method: spiking their tea with sleeping pills. With less than a week until the apocalypse, Zhang Yi wasn't worried about getting caught. These were his long-time coworkers, and it was easy to slip the sleeping pills into their drinks unnoticed. Once the drugs took effect and his colleagues were fast asleep, Zhang Yi went to the surveillance room and shut down all the cameras in the warehouse. With everything in place, he made his way into the warehouse. Looking at the massive expanse of goods before him, Zhang Yi took a deep breath and began collecting the supplies. As long as his right eye scanned a shelf, with just a thought, the entire shelf would disappear into his pocket dimension. He first went to the beverage section, where tens of thousands of tons of bottled water, drinks, and alcoholic beverages were stored, including high-end wines and spirits. Zhang Yi didn't differentiate—he loaded everything into his storage space. In no time, thousands of cubic meters of drinks vanished from sight. Next, he moved to the fuel section, where there were piles of smokeless coal, drums of gasoline, and barrels of alcohol—supplies typically reserved for household or outdoor use. There were tens of thousands of boxes of smokeless coal, not to mention the solid alcohol and barrels of gasoline—enough to last Zhang Yi a hundred years. Without hesitation, Zhang Yi stored everything in his pocket dimension, carefully organizing the items using his years of warehouse management experience for easier access later. His third stop was the food section, which held an even larger quantity of goods—tens of thousands of tons! There were canned foods, prepackaged roasted chicken and duck, snacks, and high-end gourmet items. Zhang Yi wasn't picky—he grabbed everything in sight. After stocking up on food, Zhang Yi headed to the sports equipment area. Exercise equipment was essential for his safehouse, and though the space in his safehouse was limited, he wasn't about to leave anything behind. His pocket dimension had unlimited storage space, after all—why not take everything? He also came across some useful items, like baseball bats and fencing gear, which could serve as excellent weapons. While collecting supplies, Zhang Yi found high-quality winter gear, including professional-grade cold-weather clothing used by national athletes. These outfits were designed to withstand temperatures as low as -100°C, making them invaluable for surviving the freezing apocalypse. Zhang Yi's eyes lit up. These were the best cold-weather survival tools he could have when the ice age hit. He didn't hesitate and immediately stored the dozens of top-tier cold-weather outfits and sleeping bags in the warehouse. After two hours of non-stop work, Zhang Yi had single-handedly emptied the Walmart warehouse, which spanned millions of square meters. Looking at the now-empty, vast space, he felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction. With these supplies, he was confident he could live comfortably, even in the freezing post-apocalyptic world. Zhang Yi returned to his post, drank some of the tea he'd spiked with sleeping pills, and fell into a deep sleep at his desk. He wasn't sure how much time had passed when someone shook him awake urgently. "Supervisor, supervisor, something big has happened. Wake up!" Zhang Yi slowly opened his eyes, looking dazedly at his panicked coworkers. "What happened?" he asked. A warehouse worker, trembling, pointed toward the warehouse. "Something crazy happened! Our warehouse... it's been emptied!" "What?" Zhang Yi jumped up in shock, slamming his hand on the desk. He hurried to the warehouse, pretending to be as shocked as everyone else. Of course, he already knew exactly what had happened. Still, he acted the part, his legs going weak as he stammered, "What on earth happened? How could all the supplies in the warehouse disappear?" His coworkers were just as nervous. "Yeah, this warehouse held at least billions' worth of goods! Even with trucks, it would take several days to haul it all away. How did it all vanish in the blink of an eye?" None of them mentioned their naps. After all, night shifts were long, and sneaking in some sleep was a common occurrence. Zhang Yi paced back and forth, feigning anxiety. "This is too strange. We can't handle this ourselves. We'd better call the higher-ups!" The others agreed. Though they were nervous, they weren't too scared—this disaster was beyond their control. With billions in supplies disappearing in just two hours, no one could reasonably expect them to have prevented it. Earning only a few thousand yuan a month, none of them saw any reason to risk their lives for the company. So, when Zhang Yi suggested calling in their superiors, everyone nodded in agreement. Zhang Yi immediately called the warehouse manager to report the situation. Upon hearing the news, the manager was so shocked he was left speechless, even suspecting Zhang Yi of playing a prank on him.
