"Father?" Adrian asked, his brows furrowing. "Why are you looking at me like this? And why have you been prolonging this battle for so long?"
The frustration in his voice was unmistakable. It was not because he had grown tired of fighting. It was because his time was being wasted here, battling creatures that seemed determined to drive him away from the ocean and prevent him from reaching the vault.
"Please calm down, Father. I only wish for you to return to the surface for your own sake."
The being before him was enormous, a monstrous sentinel that had been guarding the vault where a fallen god was currently imprisoned. Its deep, rumbling voice carried through the depths like distant thunder.
And yet, beneath that intimidating voice, Adrian could hear something that did not belong there.
Concern.
"This isn't making sense..." Adrian muttered under his breath.
Why did the creature want him to leave so desperately? And why was it calling Adrian its father?
