That night and even the next morning flew by fast. Zoe and Katelynn had stayed up all night talking about their lives. Suddenly, Morgan burst in. "Zoe! Someone is asking to see you…" Morgan hesitated, as if she didn't know what else to say.
Katelynn smiled at Zoe and slightly nudged her. "You should go see who it is. I need some sleep before Cam tries to drag me into the kitchen for breakfast."
Zoe hesitates but slowly stands, following Morgan outside into the living room and towards the front door. Zoe sighs as Morgan pats her on the back, trying to comfort her. "It's going to be fine. You're going to be fine."
Zoe nods and watches as Morgan walks away. She waits a minute before opening the door. Behind the door, there was a girl with long brown hair with blonde streaks and blue eyes. Zoe instantly recognized the girl. It was Zoe's sister Eliza.
Eliza smiles slightly. "Hi Evelyn." Zoe's face remains straight despite the obvious tension between the two. "Actually, it's Zoe," Zoe corrects coldly. "Now why are you here?"
Eliza sighs. "Am I not allowed to see my little sister?" Zoe rolls her eyes and steps outside, shutting the door behind her. "I am what happened to being a saint? Good grades, mom's favorite, and a great role model for your 'troubled' little sister."
Eliza crosses her arms. "Listen, I'm not here to fight. I just wanted to talk. Can we take a walk?" Zoe sighs again, knowing that Eliza won't let this go until she agrees. "Whatever, but make it quick."
Eliza walks down the street with Zoe following as she starts talking. "I've been… behind on my payments lately and I-" Zoe cuts her off. "You need cash. How much?" Eliza rubs the back of her neck. "Just $500.."
Zoe looks at her, shock on her face. "I live in an apartment with 6 other people and you think I have that money? Don't you have a job that pays $100 an hour?" Eliza shrugs nonchalantly. "I quit. The boss was rude and pushed me around." Zoe stares at Eliza, flabbergasted. "Are you serious? No, I'm not giving you anything for your drugs of your payments because you had a shitty boss."
Eliza's eyes narrow. "You're so selfish." Zoe can't help but laugh. "No, I can't believe I thought you would change. To mom, you may have been picture perfect but you didn't fool me." Zoe turns to walk back to the apartment but Eliza catches her wrist.
"Don't walk away from me. I didn't mean it like that-" Zoe cuts her off again. "No, just stop. Do everyone a favor and don't reach out if you're not going to change."
Eliza finally gets the hint and let's go of Zoe's wrist. Zoe walks back to the apartment without another word.
Back at the apartment, Zoe sees everyone sitting in the living room, waiting for her. Once they notice her, they all immediately turn to her. After a long moment of silence, Cam speaks up first. "How'd it go?"
Zoe sighs, clearly not wanting to talk about it. "It was fine. Just do me a favor?" They all nod, almost at the same time."If she comes back, don't let her in. Tell her I'm not here… okay?"
They all nod once more and watch as Zoe walks to her room. It was quiet for the rest of the night.
