She opened the door, excitement bursting out of her before she could contain it, and the moment they saw each other she ran straight for him.
Luca caught her easily, laughing as he lifted her and spun her once, the motion instinctive, familiar, like muscle memory.
"My beautiful angel," he breathed, holding her tight. "You're back."
He set her down slowly, hands still at her waist, and she grinned up at him, eyes shining. "I am," she said softly. "I missed this place."
Her voice wavered just enough that her eyes misted.
"Oh, baby," Luca murmured, his own expression softening instantly. "I'm sure they missed you more."
His eyes widened theatrically as he added, "Because work has been hell without you. Absolute chaos."
She giggled, warmth flooding her chest, and lifted her left hand between them. "I forgive you," she said magnanimously, smiling.
