Chapter 18 - Talk with Village Chief

The next morning, Ryan was awakened by his grandfather, who said that the village chief had come to visit their house.

Ryan woke up groggily and went outside, seeing the village chief seated in the hall, waiting for him.

Ryan greeted the chief, who smiled and greeted him back, noticing the still-sleepy Ryan just out of bed.

The chief then asked Ryan to freshen up as he had some things to discuss with him.

Ryan nodded and stepped outside. He brushed his teeth with charcoal paste, washed himself with cold water, changed into dry, clean clothes, and then returned to sit beside his grandfather. He glanced at the village chief with a questioning look on his face.

The chief, who had been enjoying a conversation with Old John, saw Ryan return. He immediately set aside the other topic, turned to Ryan, and asked, "Ryan, did you perform spells yesterday to catch the bandits who came to your house?"

Ryan has nothing to hide about using the spell since it wasn't a secret and wouldn't remain one. He doesn't want to conceal the truth, so he just nods in agreement with the question.

The chief was visibly excited and asked another question: "When did you reach the realms of cultivation?"

"Chief, I'm only 12 this year, but I've been practicing the meditation technique every night before bed since I was 10. Just two weeks ago, I introduced spirit energy into my body and reached the 1st stage of qi refiner," Ryan replied calmly.

"Then the meditation technique?" "Was it given to you by the immortals who visited us and recruited our children from the village?" the chief asked.

"Yes, chief, the techniques were given to me by the female cultivator who flew into the village on a flying knife," Ryan replied.

"I can pass the technique to the children who have come of age if you want me to. The female cultivator hasn't forbidden me from passing the meditation techniques to our village children, but I don't prefer them to practice unless there is no other option. There is too much turbid qi in the mortal world, which will obstruct their cultivation. However, if they can get selected into the sect, they can absorb fresh, clean spirit energy, which will be conducive to their growth."

"The technique I used is not a spell cast by the qi refiner during battle but a pre-stored spell I created by visualizing the spell formation and formulas in my mind and imprinting them onto a small seed after extensive work," Ryan explained the details.

The chief was surprised by Ryan's explanation and asked if the technique was costly to perform.

Ryan thought for a second, went inside, and brought back the cloth bag containing the 10 seeds with spell seals on them. He handed the bag to the chief.

These are the spell seeds I've designed, and the cost varies based on demand. It took me nearly ten days to prepare the seeds and store spells inside them.

"If a cultivator comes and asks me to sell the spell seed to him, I will send at least 5 spell seeds for one spirit stone, but if I was asked to sell them to a mortal, then I will ask 1 gold coin as payment for one spell seed."

"The price difference is because cultivators can preserve spell seeds by storing them in spirit trapping boxes, which keeps them viable for an extended period. Normal people, however, lack the spirit energy trapping techniques, causing the spell seed to become useless within a month." Ryan explained.

The bag contains 10 spell seeds, which are my gift to you, chief. Try to use them within a month or sell them for a profit before their energy diffuses and they become useless seeds.

"You just have to take the seed in your hand and throw it as hard as possible at the enemy. The seed will crack upon contact, and a vine plant with spikes will grow on the target's body, binding them for a minimum of three hours." Ryan explained

The chief listened to his explanation and took out a seed, which was the size of a small marble that kids used to play with. Upon closer inspection, it looked like a glass ball rather than a seed.

There is a vine plant symbol that flashes regularly, adding a sense of mystery to it.

The chief then requested if he could provide up to 100 spell seeds for sale, which he planned to use as bait to attract various merchants to the village and help develop it.

Ryan considered for a moment and asked the chief to pay a minimum of 80 gold coins as the premium price for 100 spell seeds, assuring that he wouldn't interfere with their selling price to the outside world.

The chief was thrilled to receive a positive reply to his question and immediately agreed to Ryan's condition. He asked Ryan to prepare the remaining seeds, as he planned to use these 10 seeds as an advertisement in the nearby town he was visiting today. The chief would transport the bandits to the town and collect the bounty announced on their names.

Ryan then asked the chief to wait, went to his room to retrieve the remaining seeds, and handed them to the chief, suggesting they be used as promotional items to generate excitement in the nearby towns.

The chief promised Ryan he would send about 30 gold coins for the second batch of 30 spell seeds he supplied. However, Ryan asked to use it as payment for the field purchase and requested more land to be allocated next to his farmland, which he had acquired with the money from selling the spells seed.

One acre of land costs about 10 gold coins, and the next two acres of fields in the village will be allocated in your grandfather's name, totaling three fields for the price of these thirty spells.

Old John, who was listening from the side, didn't understand most of the conversation, but he did understand that he now has three acres of land in his name, bought by his grandson, which made him extremely happy.

From now on, he doesn't have to see the same old one-acre rented field while others in the village happily farm their lands. He can also work on his land, eat what he has grown, and become prosperous in his old age.
