The black police vehicle screeched to a halt in front of the central station, its tinted windows reflecting the barrage of flashing lights from waiting cameras. The afternoon sun was hot with frenzy—reporters shouting over each other, microphones shoved forward, camera shutters snapping in rapid bursts like gunfire. The entire street had become a circus, a grotesque theater of justice where the once untouchable now wore iron bracelets for the world to see.

It hadn't been long since several of Rogers' men were arrested—traffickers caught red-handed in their disgusting trade of children, weapons, and narcotics. The scandal had rocked the country then, but this? This was worse. For a senator, a man who built his reputation by standing against drugs and human exploitation, to be dragged in under charges of the very things he condemned… it was unthinkable.
