After the meal, Sakazuki left without checking out the game. Ikki and the Straw Hats didn't stay long either, departing from the G-8 base and setting a course for their next destination, Water 7.
Meanwhile, Gildarts was traveling the Grand Line alone in a small boat. While Ikki's crew was still in the sky, the Ark Maxim, the ship Gildarts had been on, had already arrived in Water 7 and was being modified. Naturally, Gildarts couldn't stay in one place for too long, so he went out to sea by himself to explore this new world.
It wasn't long before he encountered Sakazuki. After their fight, Gildarts had a better understanding of his current strength in this world. He was at the level of a Marine Admiral, but still had a way to go to truly stand up to a Four Emperor.
Originally, Gildarts had wanted to find Shanks, since they looked so similar. But after learning his current power level, Gildarts decided to train more before trying to find him again. Before he left, he asked Ace how to improve his Haki. The answer Ace gave him shocked Gildarts: "Go find Four Emperor Kaido and ask him to hit you with a club a couple of times!"
And so, Gildarts embarked on a journey to find Kaido.
After a while, Gildarts noticed his water bag was almost empty. Fortunately, he spotted an island in the distance. But as he paddled closer, a massive sea beast suddenly leaped out of the water, its jaws open to swallow him and his boat whole.
The beast was only a few inches away from him when it froze. Cracks spread across its body, and with a loud crash, the creature shattered into a pile of pieces that fell into the sea, turning the water red.
Gildarts casually put a few pieces of sea beast meat on his boat and continued paddling to the island. His magic made short work of any obstacles. He soon reached the center of the island, where he was immediately surrounded by a group of men, women, and children. They looked disheveled but were well-dressed.
"Excuse me, sir," a middle-aged man who appeared to be their leader approached Gildarts and bowed. "I was wondering if you could inform the outside world about us."
"What happened to you? Did you encounter pirates?" Gildarts asked curiously.
"No," the man shook his head. "The Sea Train we were on was hit by a Yokozuna, which knocked the train off its tracks. We ended up stranded on this island. Sea beasts surround the island, so we can't leave. We saw how easily you killed that beast, and we know you must be a powerful person. So…"
Gildarts raised a hand to stop him. "I can take your message to the outside, but this is the Grand Line. Even if I do, it might be hard for people to find you on this island."
The refugees all lowered their heads, understanding his words. But they had no other choice.
Gildarts shrugged. "There are plenty of trees here. You could build a giant raft, and I'll escort you all off the island. Once we find a populated island, you can go on your way."
"Really? You mean it?" The refugees' faces lit up. There was a shipwright from Water 7 among them, so building a huge raft from the trees and vines on the island wasn't a problem. As long as they had a strong escort, they could leave this place. No one had expected a powerful person like Gildarts to be so kind as to help them.
"Sir, when we return to our families, we'll make sure to thank you with a very generous reward!" several nobles said, bowing sincerely.
"Alright," Gildarts waved his hand. "Let's start building the ship already."
The refugees immediately began to work, while Gildarts started a fire to barbecue the sea beast meat.
Meanwhile, the Straw Hat Pirates were engaged in a Davy Back Fight against the Foxy Pirates. The Davy Back Fight is a pirate game where crews battle for each other's flags, members, and pride. The winner takes everything, while the loser is left adrift at sea without a sail.
So why would the Straw Hats participate in such a pointless contest? It all started on Long Ring Long Land, when Luffy met an old man whose partner, a horse named One Horse, had been kidnapped by Foxy.
Luffy wanted to help the old man get his horse back, and the crew found the so-called Davy Back Fight interesting, so they decided to join.
The first event of the Davy Back Fight was the Donut Race, a kayak race around the island. It's basically a boat race, but with a twist. Before the race started, Ikki brought out three ships: a yacht filled with drinks, a combat boat with torpedoes, and a submarine.
Zoro, seeing the yacht full of booze, immediately claimed it. Chopper and Merry joined him. Usopp chose the combat boat, with Sanji and Nami as his co-pilots. The submarine was driven by Ikki and Luffy, along with Little Feng Feng.
A gunshot signaled the start of the race, and the weird, multicolored ships belonging to the Foxy Pirates set off. Their goal was to sink the Straw Hats' three ships. But were the ships Ikki brought out so easy to sink?
