Chapter 19 - Flashback 19

Flashback: The Vow of Marriage (Before the Wedding)

Onik recalled the memory of the day they decided that social distance and religious division would not be able to stop their love. It was the day of their secret, personal vow.

Then, in a flashback, they are seen before their marriage.

The day was overcast. They stood in a quiet, green field near an old, almost abandoned temple, away from public eyes. They wore simple clothes so that no one would suspect them.

Ira (Holding Onik's hand with trembling hands): "Onik, what are we going to do? Do you know what the consequence will be? Will our families, our society... will anyone accept this?"

Onik (With firm eyes, holding Ira's hand tightly): "What we are doing is not just the union of two bodies, Ira. It is the union of two souls. And no religion or society can cancel the union of souls."

They stood by the side of a small, ancient water body (perhaps a pond or a lake).

Onik (In a grave voice): "Listen, today we have no priest, no witness—only nature and our God are witnesses. We will take our vows under the water, where no sound from the outside world can reach."

Ira was afraid at first, but seeing the indomitable love in Onik's eyes, she agreed. They slowly walked toward the clear water. At the edge, they looked into each other's eyes.

Ira (Whispering): "I am ready, Onik."

They dived into the deep water together. Under the water was a silent, cool world. Fish played around them. In that moment, the sound of water seemed to drown out all the controversies and fears of the outside world. They stood face to face.

Onik (Under the water, gesturing, but his message reached Ira's heart): 'I love you. I am marrying you.'

Ira (Looking at Onik with steady eyes under the water): 'I love you. I am your wife.'

In the silence beneath the water, they held each other's hands tightly—taking the ultimate vow of love, trust, and staying together for a lifetime. Without any hymns, without any formalities, their souls became one at that moment.

When they emerged from the water, the faint light of the sun fell on their wet faces. They took a breath. That breath was one of freedom and promise. They knew they were husband and wife now—no matter what they were in the eyes of the world.

Onik remembered the indomitable courage and promise of that day. That very promise had brought them together today in this hospital, beside their child.

The Present: A Father's Embrace

Ira, even in her weak body, was clutching the child. Tears were still falling from her eyes, but these were tears of joy and peace.

Now, in the present. Ira is crying in front of the baby.

Ira (Whispering, eyes closed): "You have come to me... you have come to me... you have come to end all the pain of your mother and father, my darling."

Onik watched this scene. He had never seen his wife so weak and yet so calm and emotional. Onik realized he now needed to take on another role. Ira needed full physical and mental rest.

Onik gestured very gently to his mother. His mother came and sat beside Ira. Onik then moved very carefully toward the baby.

Onik (In a very soft voice): "Take some rest now, my Queen. I'll look after her."

Onik gently lifts their baby girl, wrapped in a towel, from Ira's arms.

The touch of the baby's soft, warm body washed away all of Onik's exhaustion. He saw his child for the first time—the ultimate proof of their love and struggle.

Onik (Kissing the baby's forehead, with tears in his eyes): "Welcome, my little warrior. You are just as brave as your mother."

The two mothers—one a mother-in-law and one a mother—stood silently. There was absolute satisfaction in their eyes. This scene was, to them, the final declaration of their family's reunion and the erasing of religious and communal divisions through the victory of love.

Onik carefully walked slowly around the cabin with the baby in his arms, and Ira watched him. There was a deep, tranquil smile on her face.

The Blue Saree and the Fullness of Love

In the present, Ira is seen wearing a blue saree.

The blue color seemed to have washed away all the sadness of their lives today, bringing a vast, sky-like peace. There was a heavenly glow of motherhood on Ira's pale face. Her hair was tucked gently to one side; though there was a mountain of exhaustion in her eyes, there was only contentment now.

Ira was sitting in a reclined position, and in her hands, the baby lay with ultimate affection. The baby was asleep, her tiny breaths and Ira's heartbeat seemingly merging into one. Ira wouldn't move this precious treasure from her lap for even a moment.

Ira (Looking at the baby, whispering): "See, darling, doesn't the blue color look so beautiful today? Just like the water of that pond where your father and I took our vows."

At that very moment, Onik is sitting by her side.

He had pulled up a chair and sat very close to Ira. Onik wore his official shirt with the sleeves rolled up. He was gazing fixedly at the two North Stars of his life. One of his hands rested on Ira's shoulder, while with the other, he gently touched the baby's tiny fingers.

Onik (With deep emotion): "Ira, you look like the most beautiful mother in the world today. And our little fairy in the blue saree... when she grows up, I will tell her what a great warrior her mother was."

Ira laughed and looked at Onik. Onik moved even closer. He gave a long kiss to Ira's forehead—a kiss that blended gratitude, forgiveness, and an unbreakable promise to protect her for a lifetime.

Outside the cabin, the two mothers were perhaps sharing stories about their new granddaughter, but inside this room, there were now only three—Onik, Ira, and the fruit of their love. The blue water of the sea and Ira's blue saree had merged into one today to write the story of a new future.
