Chapter 6 - chapter 6 babysitting

Retsu followed his nose to what smelled to him like thanksgiving dinner. Though he knew that this would be a non cooked, potentially old carcass and not something anyone in their right mind should be eating.

To his dismay it was worse than he had expected, he had destroyed the entire farm of someone and he didn't even know where he was. Was this in the werewolf kingdom? The human society? Somewhere else? How far could he travel in one night?

"We need to not do stuff that I don't remember." He told his wolf.

Thirsty!!!

His wolf urged him to uphold his side of the deal. He gave a sigh and followed the dripping sound to a sheep that was hanging from a barbed wire fence. He wanted to vomit at the thought of drinking that thing's blood. Surely he can get sick from it right?

The smell was divine to his nose. He shook his head. "This zombie is gonna have some standards." He said to himself.

Anger began to fill him, the creature inside of him was angry about the rejection of the energy source that was right there!

"Hold your horses." He said. "I'm going to see if anything is still alive here."

He walked to the barn and looked inside only to see more onslaught he had caused the night before. Horses too. And cows. He shook his head in dismay. How was he going to compensate this farmer for the damages?

Finish the food you already killed! His wolf said waste not want not!

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a rifle being cocked. He put his arms in the air and slowly turned around. He turned just enough to meet the gaze of the farmer, who was a…young girl? The rifle wobbled in her shaking grasp, and she seemed to be no older than fifteen.

A feral noise left his throat befitting of a hungry zombie.

She's still alive! The voice in his head sang. You said we will eat food that is still alive!

"Thank goodness you are fine." He said to the girl. "I was afraid what I would find at the farmhouse after seeing all of these animals."

Her anger flared. "Fine?" She questioned.

"Yes! How did you get me to revert from my crazed zombie…."

"You don't look like you've reverted." She interrupted. "I reckon you look dangerous as ever. I better just shoot you again except it didn't kill you last time." She shot back.

"I'm still getting the hang of it, I promise I will do what I can to make it up to you."

"If youre a creature so evil, you should be trying to rid the world of yourself, not be getting the hang of it. Getting the hang of what exactly?"

She was right.

"Are you a human?" He asked her instead of answering. "Where am I?"

Just eat our food! His voice in his head whined.

"She's not food!" He yelled at himself, no doubt making himself look more crazy.

"You promised me food!" He said out loud. "Too long to wait for food!"

"No, you will be patient." He said, aware that the girl was pointing the shotgun at him. He didn't want her to shoot him even though they all knew it hadn't stopped him for long.

"Tell him to clean up his mess!" His wolf said to the girl.

"You are possessed by a demon?" She asked him. "Why should I reward you for killing my sheep by letting you eat them?" She said to his wold without even acting afraid.

"Then I won't eat you." His wolf answered her. "My hunger is insatiable, but it will tide me over and I will find food elsewhere and spare you." He offered smiling through Retsu's teeth.

"What's in it for me?" She asked. "Sounds like you're not offering me anything. I can just bury this contaminated meat. How are you going to replace it?" She asked.

"Kid, it's better that you not agitate it…"

"Offer me immunity and I'll babysit you." She said. "Take me with you. There is nothing here for me anymore." She said in a heartbeat.

"Kid…"

"Deal!" His wolf exclaimed happily.

"You will make it up to me when you prove you can control yourself." She said sternly.

Retsu still didn't even know who this girl was and now his wolf had invited her along with a false promise of not becoming a snack. He wasn't so sure about that.

But he shook her hand and then he was overwhelmed with hunger again. With a sigh, he pounced on a nearby sheep and once again his body was eating.

The next thing he knew, he was traveling through the forest with the girl behind him. She had packed a backpack at some point. The farmhouse was far behind them. His stomach was hungry as ever, but his wolf was keeping his promise so far.

"What about your farm and your family?" He asked when he realized that her coming along was really just her.

Her face got dark with some unexpressed feelings, but she didn't end up saying anything. "There's nothing for me on my farm anymore." She said quickly. Then she changed the subject.

"Why do you have to eat so much?" She asked him.

"My wolf says I'm rotting, my spirit and my body are out of sync or something and I'll consume myself if I don't eat something else."

She nodded like that made sense. Who was this girl? "So what's your plan then? She asked.

"My plan?"

"For your next meal?"

He let out a sigh. "Maybe you should just kill me now."

"I can't." She said stubbornly.

"What?"

"You still owe me." She said. "You're not getting out of it that easy." Then she continued, "we should start with figuring out how long you can go without food."

"That doesn't sound like a good idea. If I get too hungry then I might eat you…"

"Eat me and you won't get any of this." She said, suddenly swiping the air in front of her and out of hammar space she pulled out a bag of frozen ground beef.

His wolf began salivating but she put it back just as quickly as she pulled it out. He guessed that answered his question about was she human. The answer was no. She was a magical creature, probably a werewolf.

"I will feed you as long as you learn to stay conscious when you're eating." She reprimanded him. "I mean seriously."
