Chapter 522: The Scoundrel Dragonfly's Scheme
"It's bad! The Three Phantoms are attacking!! We're doomed!!"
As more and more people ran through the camp, shouting in panic, Linda no longer needed to ask her subordinates what was happening.
BOOM!!
A violent tremor ripped through the camp, making everyone inside scream as furniture toppled, glasses shattered, and office supplies scattered everywhere.
Outside, a Dynamaxed Tyranitar and Garchomp were using Earthquake in tandem!
Since this was a premeditated ambush, Tyranitar and Garchomp had fully buffed themselves before launching their attack.
Tyranitar had stacked three Dragon Dances, one Focus Energy, and two Iron Defenses! Its body was as hard as steel and filled with boundless strength. It was a tank with terrifying offensive power, leaving the armed personnel on the perimeter in despair. When they pulled their triggers, the rifle bullets simply ricocheted off Tyranitar's legs.
How are we supposed to fight this?!
Garchomp, on the other hand, was a bit simpler, with only two Swords Dances. As a true Dragon-type, Garchomp couldn't learn Dragon Dance, which was... rather awkward. Every time she saw Tyranitar shaking its hips and dancing flamboyantly in front of her, she would get angry.
And now, she was venting that anger on the camp before her!
"ROAR!"
With a stomp that triggered an Earthquake and a sweeping Dragon Tail, she instantly demolished a section of the camp's outer concrete wall! The debris, sent flying like cannonballs by her tail, smashed into the camp, causing another wave of wailing.
"Run!!"
"Help!!"
"It's over!! We're all dead!!"
When Linda finally stepped out of the command center, the chaotic scene before her made her scalp tingle and a chill run down her spine. The battle hadn't even properly started yet, and morale had already plummeted below freezing. A full-blown rout or mutiny was just moments away.
"F*ck!"
Only this single, emphatic curse could sum up her complex feelings.
"Stop panicking!! Calm down! Retreat in an orderly fashion! Fall back to the Seed warehouse in the rear! F*ck! Electivire, use Thunder Punch and kill that idiot who won't stop screaming!"
After sending out her Pokémon to make an example of a few cowards who were running around screaming, Linda managed to barely restore some semblance of order.
She then released another Pokémon, an Ampharos, and used its Echoed Voice to amplify her commands across the camp.
"Do not panic!! In the name of Cadre Linda, I order—all artillery units, fall back and find firing positions! Mechanized units, mount up! Everyone else, retreat to the Seed warehouse! Hold your ground! The news of the attack has been sent out. Reinforcements from the nearby camps will be here soon! Just hold on, and victory will be ours!!"
Whether reinforcements would actually come was unknown. But Linda's words temporarily halted the collapse of morale. She had to give them hope, even if it was false.
"Don't be afraid! Even Phantoms can be defeated! Have you forgotten the battle where we hunted down the Kommo-o?"
It was true that a fully equipped modern human army could contend with a Dynamaxed Champion-level Pokémon. They had, in coordination with Sinnoh's elite special forces, swiftly killed the Dynamaxed Phantom of the South, Kommo-o!
But that was when they were fully prepared and had successfully ambushed it. Now, they were the ones being ambushed.
Linda had intended to use this as a rallying cry to awaken her subordinates' courage. But instead, her words not only raised a massive death flag but also enraged the hordes of wild Pokémon within the sandstorm!
Many Pokémon in the desert had been protected by the Three Phantoms. Since the Phantoms were pseudo-legendaries with few of their own kind, they often filled their territories with vassals. Over time, the Three Phantoms had gained a revered status in the Ashen Desert, second only to the Legendaries themselves!
These humans had not only killed the Phantom of the South but were now insulting it. This was intolerable!!
This time, without needing the little dragonfly to rally them, even more wild Pokémon burst from the sandstorm, erupted from the ground, and flew down from the sky, converging into a tidal wave that crashed into the defenseless camp!
Linda was stunned. Whether her words had inspired her own troops was debatable. But they had definitely inspired the enemy's fighting spirit, and the effect was immediate!
The camp, already ravaged by Tyranitar and Garchomp, crumbled under the onslaught of the wild Pokémon horde. The morale and order she had painstakingly restored collapsed again in an instant!
"F*ck!"
For the second time in a short span, Linda could only sum up her feelings with that one word.
The position was indefensible.
"Get the Seeds out! Take as many as you can!" This time, Linda didn't use Echoed Voice. She only spoke to her trusted aides. In the final moment, she made the decision to sacrifice the pawns to save the queen.
Forget the camp; get the Seeds out first!
The reason she didn't amplify her voice was simple: she didn't intend to tell the rest of the troops the truth. The soldiers left behind were sacrifices to buy time! She needed to escort the Seeds to another base as quickly as possible.
However, she failed to notice that a pair of compound eyes in the distant sandstorm was locked onto her!
It was the little dragonfly!
She was sharp as a tack, keeping a close eye on the enemy leader. Seeing Linda turn to leave, the little dragonfly smiled. The next moment, she flapped her wings, deftly twisting her body to blend into the sandstorm, hiding her presence as she dove at high speed toward her target. Swimming through a sandstorm was a natural talent of the Flygon species!
Below, Linda remained oblivious. With her trusted aides, she took advantage of the chaos to retreat, quickly reaching an inconspicuous building at the rear of the camp.
Everyone in the camp knew this was the vital Seed warehouse. But very few knew that the Pokémon kept on the surface level were just decoys. The real Seeds were kept underground, in a secret chamber!
Linda ignored the fake Seeds on the first floor and went straight to a keypad door. She quickly entered the code, scanned her fingerprint, and opened the door.
"Guard the outside!" she ordered.
But then—
"Ah!"
"Gah!!"
"Flyy, gon~ Flyy, gon, gon~"
A series of screams, mixed with a few playful chirps, made Linda's hair stand on end. A chill ran through her entire body!
She immediately realized: she had been followed!
But... why?!
How could a wild Pokémon have such a cunning mind, and understand human psychology so clearly?!
To this, every Pokémon tribe leader in the desert would have said—
That scoundrel dragonfly is full of devious schemes, infinitely more cunning than any human!
