Chapter 3:
Izuku paused, it was very hard to read what was happening right now. He had no idea whether he was in trouble or not. He put his thumb up this time - his neck would start hurting soon.
The man chuckled, "well then, that's what I needed to hear- well see. Your performance in the entrance exam was a spectacle young man, and this is my proposition to you." Suddenly the man stood up, and he was surrounded by steam.
Izuku's first thought was that he must have had a steam quirk, that was until a larger figure started to appear out of the steam.
Bulging leg muscles filled out the suits, thick fingers clenched and twisted into balled fists. Large torso muscles lined the suit too. His gaze travelled up and saw a grin, with yellow pointed hair. All Might. All Might was here, with him. Right now.
At this moment, he wished he could let out a squeal. He signed 'All Might' knowing it meant little to the hero. He let out a loud laugh, "you young man, embody a hero perfectly. I believe your quirk is wonderful, and the way you go around it really proves you have what it means. Would you become my student?"
All Might's student. Him. Someone believed in him. Someone thought he could become a hero. Tears rolled down his face, he fought back his mouth letting out a sob as his shoulders shook. All Might believed in him. A grin plastered on Izuku's face. More people believed in him.
Without thinking he wrapped All Might into a hug, despite barely making half his height. He faffed his hands around slightly before laughing, "I take that as a yes, young man?" Izuku nodded as tears of joy rolled down his cheeks.
He had returned home to his mother shortly after his meeting with All Might - the actual All Might - and explained what had happened - excluding that the small man was All Might, apparently that was a secret. She was as overjoyed as he was, Izuku couldn't stop smiling the entire day, high collar or not, most people he saw could tell.
…
In the following days, he spent some time with All Might. They trained on an old beach which was cleaned of a lot of rubbish and fly dumping - although it needed more cleaning. All Might was interested in the logic of his quirk so he explained in further detail how it worked.
He seemed pleased. They started working on physical endurance soon enough, something Izuku had worked on a little over time, to use most of the energy he absorbed in without dispelling it. As he could transfer it to his cells thankfully - if only a minimal amount.
Physical exercise came easy enough and if he ran low on energy, he could just absorb a little more energy and use that to power forward. A useful addition to his arsenal of skills. He wasn't sure about the full reasons as to why All Might trained him. Izuku couldn't even smile properly.
The muscles around his mouth were damaged beyond repair, the scars too. So even the version of a smile he did was disgusting, it looked rotten, malicious and villainous. All Might's student should be able to smile, yet Izuku couldn't.
Also, their quirks were wildly different. Izuku's relied upon little skill, All Might's did not - whatever his quirk may be. The time went flying by over the next week and their training went well. All Might even learnt and caught onto a few different signings which made the job of communication that little bit easier.
"Young Midoriya," All Might called out as he finished his last set, "I have something for you."
Intrigued, Izuku made his way over to the small form of the number one hero as he held a brown paper bag in his hands. "So, I had this custom made for you the second day we met, I hope it fits and it's your size."
Izuku took the offered bag and rummaged inside and found a jumper of sorts. It was bright red and yellow with a pattern resembling that of All Might's costume. He smiled as he lifted it. The collar had been altered to be taller, like his own high collar, except for one difference.
The collar was green in colour - like his hair - and had an imprinted smile on it. He exhaled through his nose in a laugh and smile. His smile. "I felt like, if you'll be my student, you might as well look the part, right?"
That was the second time Izuku hugged All Might.
…
Two weeks after his training under All Might had begun, which revolved around using stored energy in short bursts to increase his stamina, so he could physically fight, he received a letter. His mum had scrambled to pass it to him, seeing as it was signed by UA.
It had completely left his mind he still was waiting on this. He hoped to be accepted, to prove he could be a hero to more people. The message was a small puck which displayed a hologram. The hologram was All Might.
He was a teacher now? At UA? That was the first he had heard of it, maybe he had seen him in the entrance exam live?
Izuku ranked first, with 60 rescue points and a further 60 villain points giving him a total of 120 points, scoring past Bakugo who got 74 at 2 nd place. However, his eyes first went to 4 th place. Ochako Uraraka with 23 villain points and 45 rescue points. They could be in the same class together.
At least then he could apologise to her. As he emerged from his room he gave his mum a thumbs up. "Well done Izu," she happily cheered as she hugged him, "I am so proud of you, so very proud."
He hugged her back, so very happy too. Things were finally looking up for Izuku Midoriya.
