Only a few words were written on the letter, yet the emotion they contained far exceeded the bounds of mere handwriting.
[I hope you, me, and everyone can be happy together]
The girl covered her mouth, hoping to hide her surprise from the player.
But her flickering, shimmering gaze still revealed her true feelings.
She had... she had already heard Alain say something to this effect several times.
Both in his words and in his actions. She was even seeing this letter for the second time.
But the rapidly beating heart in her chest could not be suppressed. It felt as if it would leap from her rib cage at any second.
Sleepy Mita understood something, or rather, she rejected a previous thought of hers:
[It would be hard to find anything that could make me happier than this]
Hard to find... Yes, it truly was hard to find.
But now, Alain had once again raised the threshold of her happiness.
"You... doing this..."
Under Alain's gaze, the girl clutched the letter tightly, her fingertips digging into the paper's surface and creating spiral creases.
And her eyes, shimmering with tears, were tinged at the corners with a hot, crystalline sheen.
"If you keep this up, I'll become insatiably greedy..."
She put down the letter, turned her face away, took a deep breath, and tried to compose her emotions.
But the more she tried to organize them, the more chaotic they became, a tangled mess of lines surging through her chest.
In Alain's vision, the progress bar successfully rose to its maximum value. He could now get ready to go back at any time.
"It's okay. I'm your player. You can take anything you want from me without hesitation."
This letter wasn't just for the progress bar; it was also for the promise he had made.
"Of course, you also have to be prepared for me to make you—and everyone—happy."
"So happy..." She carefully folded the letter into a square and gently placed it in her pajama pocket. "I'm so happy right now..."
Sleepy Mita slowly walked over and rested her cheek against Alain's chest.
"I don't know what to do now... I wish time could just stop like this."
"We can't have that. You still have to come to the real world with me."
He gently stroked the girl's head. His eyes lowered, he continued, "So... I need you to be a little greedier."
"Even greedier than I am now?" she asked, seeking Alain's opinion, as if hesitating whether to let her emotions loose.
"Mmm. I want to give you a name."
Sleepy Mita didn't answer, only nodding softly.
"From now on, your name will be... [Miffy]."
"Miffy..." Sleepy Mita murmured the name she would hear countless times in her future.
She looked up at Alain's face. "Then... I'll be a little more insatiably greedy and accept it."
A smile as gentle as a spring day felt like a soft breeze on the skin. She crossed her hands over her chest and gently closed her eyes.
Miffy's lips puckered slightly, trembling as she spoke, "Let's exchange it... happiness."
"Okay."
Alain kissed her.
Waves of happiness echoed between their mouths. From him to her, and back to him again.
--------
When Miffy woke from her dream, the first thing she heard was the sound of steady breathing.
The sound was as delicate as a cicada's wing, yet it made the ceiling she so often stared at feel less lonely.
The girl sat up, leaning against the headboard, her fingertips gently tracing the defined contours of Alain's face.
He was still sound asleep. She thought about going to find Misha and the others in Mita City to discuss something.
Alain's sleeping face was peaceful, just like the girl's state of mind at that moment.
Miffy looked around her room, feeling as if she were in a different world. She couldn't hide the bright smile on her lips, and even the sleepiness in her eyes had lessened considerably.
"So happy..."
Everything that had just happened was an illusory dream, and yet the most real of dreams.
It was just as Alain had said. In the past, she couldn't bear the loneliness of version 1.1, so she threw herself into the wonderful world of dreams, wandering and lingering within it.
That way, she wouldn't have to see the star-shaped lights deliberately used to create a cozy atmosphere, the confined room, or the despair of waking up.
But with him, waking up was no longer despair; it would be full of wonderful things!
And he said he would take her to the real world...
Although for Miffy, it was merely a matter of sleeping in a different place.
[Uh... the layout of my apartment is a bit weird. So, if you're going to sleep, we'll all have to sleep together. If that gets inconvenient, I'll find a more normal place—]
Alain's words echoed in her mind, and her reply at the time...
Miffy blushed.
[No need, I'll be fine sleeping with you]
What kind of answer was that? Didn't it... make her seem so greedy?
The girl hesitated, but deep down, she felt grateful for that open-plan apartment.
Sleeping together with him, she could feel happiness at every moment... satisfying her greed.
Miffy realized that she was the kind of woman who, if given an inch, would take a mile.
The more happiness Alain gave her, the more she felt it wasn't enough.
"I still want... more happiness."
A large hole in Miffy's heart had just been filled. But now, another large hole had appeared.
"I really wish... we could get to the real world soon."
That way, she could build a good relationship with everyone from reality—the three Mitas named Misha, Millie, and Miluo—and they could become her friends.
Her feelings for her player, and friendships with the Mitas, she wanted it all... and to hold it all tightly in her hands.
"But it's still not enough..."
The hope of the future alone was not enough to fill the emptiness in her heart right now.
"I want more..."
Her gaze involuntarily fell upon Alain.
Miffy stared at his closed lips. It was in the dream that Alain's lips had filled her emptiness.
Right now, she needed that very much.
"Mm..."
She knelt beside Alain, looked at his peaceful sleeping face, and leaned down to kiss him.
"Mmm, mm..."
This time, she wasn't limited to the contact of skin, but an exchange of fluids.
She continuously drew happiness from Alain while sending her own happiness back to him.
"Haah..."
Her inexperience made it hard for her to control her breathing. She broke the kiss, panting for air.
"Hah, hah... I'm a little satisfied, but I still feel... it's not enough."
Miffy touched the spot over her heart. It was beating rapidly.
She could feel her face burning. This act of taking... whether it was greedy happiness or the joy between a man and a woman, it was her first time doing any of it.
It was true, she was so happy...
But, it wasn't enough. It was empty.
She still wanted to demand more.
The hole in her heart was mostly filled, but it was like one of those swimming pool problems from a grade-school textbook, being filled and drained at the same time, making it impossible to fill that last little part.
It's not enough...
How can it ever be filled?
