After that situation with Archangel Michael, Saint Catherine and Margaret, me and Jeanne went on a journey towards the castle of Prince Charles VII.
The distance to get there was going make the trip go on longer than expected. We had to traverse the English riddled lands of France. Each step we took towards our desired location only has us battling the British. We faced many enemies and overcome the battles that seemed to drag for a long period of time.
We were about a day from arriving towards Chinon. We arrived towards the town of Amboise. I took Jeanne to a near by tavern, so we could rest for a bit before going towards Chinon.
"Arthur, you sure you don't want to eat before we go to bed?" Asked Jeanne.
"I'm not hungry, but if you really want to go to get something to eat then order some food from the tavern." I responded to her.
She looked at me with a smile and went to order something from the tavern. I went towards the room I rented out for ourselves. I went up the stairs and opened our room door. I took off my clothes and brought out a bucket of water to wiping myself self down with a wet towel.
Despite our long journey towards Chinon we never slept unless necessary. We didn't bath as much since most of the rivers we came through were occupied by the British.
After wiping myself down, I went towards the sword I used to battle with Jeanne against the British. She may seem like a frail woman but she's quite the strong one. She's quite adaptable when it comes to the battlefield. She never picked up a sword before but as soon as she started her first battle, she got the gist of how to use a sword.
I unsheathed my blood stained sword and began doing some maintenance on it. I've maintained my sword by wiping it down with a cloth so it didn't rust. But due to me heading into many battles my sword seems to be dull.
I needed to visit a local blacksmith to have it sharpened since I didn't have my stuff to sharpen it with me. I quickly wiped the blood off of my sword and sheathed it. I immediately put on my clothes and went down to a local smithy.
...
I asked a local to point me towards the blacksmith and arrived at one. I walked up towards the door and knocked on the wooden door to see if someone was there. Despite it being very late into the night, someone answered to my knock and opened the door.
There stood a young man who was covered in sweat.
"What do you require, Sir?" Asked the young man.
I unstrapped my sword from my waist and presented it to the man.
"Could you do a sharpening of my blade?" I asked.
The man took my sword and unsheathed it. He looked at the sword and immediately threw it away.
"You don't need that scrap metal. Let me forge a new weapon for you." Said the man to me.
I thought for a second and picked up my old sword.
"I would gladly accept your offer. Use some of the metal of this sword to make the new one." I responded.
The man took my sword and then gestured me to come inside his smithy. I followed him and closed the door when I entered. I was met with a variety of weapons that were out on display. The man walked towards his forge and immediately went to work.
He grabbed some metal and began to heat the material. While he was working on the sword, I wandered and checked out the weapons the guy had made. I grabbed a sword that seemed to be decorative. Reminds me of my father's sword that he made for me. The blade was around 45 inches long. The blade, though a bit heavy, felt pretty natural.
I placed back the sword and looked at the selection of spears. I skimmed over them but one caught me eye. I pulled out the spear that caught my attention.
"God damn this spear is heavy." I said as I surprised by the weight of it.
I checked the spear out and began thrusting it forward.
"This spear is good when you use it on a horse, but it's really useless when It comes to ground fights since it hinders the users movements due to the heaviness." I said to myself.
The blacksmith making the sword for me suddenly talked to me.
" That spear you have in your hand is a spear that was custom made for someone for competition. Though they cancelled on me so now I have that. If you want take it because no one wants that spear." Said the blacksmith as he hammered the glowing steel.
*CLANG* *CLANG* *CLANG*
"Should I take it?"
'Might as well.'
I made a makeshift case for the spear so I could carry it on my back.
'Maybe I should give it to Jeanne' I thought to myself.
I thought of Jeanne using the spear in battle over a horse holding the French flag. I placed the strap of the spear over my shoulder and looked at the other weapons here in the smithy.
There wasn't much to look at since the other weapons didn't catch my attention. I then went to sit down to wait for my weapon.
"Come back here tomorrow because I wont be able to finish this sword tonight. So come back tomorrow around the afternoon." Said the man while gesturing me to go back.
I shook my head in confirmation and said my goodbyes before going back to the tavern. There I met Jeanne in our room eating some food she ordered.
She patted towards the right side of her. I sighed before sitting where she patted her hands. She passed me some food as I sat down right beside her. It was just porridge with a hard piece of bread.
Better than nothing....
I began gobbling down the food as I was really hungry at the moment.
Jeanne giggled as she saw me eat rapidly. She finished her food and began cleaning up after herself.
"You know that the food won't be going anywhere." She said to me as she drank some alcohol to down the food she ate.
"Jeanne, your sixteen. You shouldn't be drinking alcohol right now." I said to her as I finally finished my food.
"I'm old enough, Arthur. You know that the water is dirty here right." She responded.
"I know but you could've gotten something less strong than the beer you have there right." I said.
"Might as well enjoy it as I might die in the battlefield against the British. I mean you never know if suddenly die." Said Jeanne.
"Hey, don't talk like that. We're still in our prime. And plus, we are being overseen by God." I said to her.
She didn't respond. She then noticed the spear I brought back with me.
"Hey, where did you get that spear?" She asked.
"Oh I got it from the local blacksmith for free. Here it's yours." I said to her as I handed her it.
She then unwrapped the spear from its case and showed it's metal frame. She lifted the spear without trouble and stood up from her seat. She test out if the spear suites her.
I went down the stairs with our dirty trays and returned it to the people of the tavern. I went back up the stairs and back to our room. I opened the door only to she Jeanne already trashed up the place. I sighed and picked up everything that was knocked down by Jeanne. I then placed fhem back to their original place.
I went to the bed and flung myself on top of it.
"Go to sleep, Jeanne. We got a big day ahead of us for tomorrow." I said while I closed my eyes.
I heard her agreeing to what I said and snuffed out the oil lamp and went to bed. Thank god I chose a two bed room because I wouldn't want Jeanne sleeping in my bed.
...
I woke up to the sounds of the birds chirping in the morning light. I opened my tired eyes and was met something. Jeanne ended up in my bed. I yawned as I shook Jeanne to wake up. I was really not surprised that Jeanne woke up in my bed. She always ended sleeping in my bed since she was not comfortable sleeping alone.
"Hmm?" Mumbled Jeanne as she woke up and rubbed her eyes.
"It's time to wake up Jeanne. We need to get ready for today's journey to Chinon." I said to her as I got off the bed and opened the window.
"Okay....." She said while stretching.
I grabbed something to brush my dirty teeth.
...
Me and Jeanne were now walking out on the streets of Amboise. We went shopping for supplies for our journey to Chinon. We brought some food and lots of materials to make a camp just in case we don't reach Chinon by tonight.
Afterwards, we went to the blacksmith I visited last night to pick up my new weapon. I opened the door to see the blacksmith sharpening my sword.
After the blacksmith finished sharpening my new sword, he sheathed it and threw it towards me. I then threw a bag of money towards him.
The both of us acknowledge each other and went out separate ways. Me and Jeanne then exited the town of Amboise. We then headed towards the direction of Chinon.
*3 HOURS LATER*
As we continued our journey to Chinon, we met British soldiers. They were very hostile towards us and immediately went to attack us. This was quite the lucky day I had since i wanted to try out my new sword. Jeanne felt the same was as she wanted to test out the spear.
There were around 10 British soldiers that were armed with swords and heavy armor. I hoped that my sword could pierce through their armour. I knew that Jeannes new spear could pierce through it easily since the spear head was very sharp.
The soldiers immediately went towards us to attack. Me and Jeanne took on a defensive stance and went forward towards the soldiers. I immediately blocked the multiple attacks that I received and counter them with my own attack. I stabbed the first soldier and punch another that tried to stab me while I was busy with the first. The soldier I stabbed immediately went limp.
I took out my sword and stabbed the other soldier that I punched which killed him instantly. I was then surrounded by 5 soldiers. I took on the defensive and defended against them.
While I was battling the soldiers, Jeanne was fighting the remnants of the soldiers that were here. She thrusted her spear and pier through the amour of a soldier like butter. While she attacked one, another appeared behind and attempted to ambush her. Her instincts immediately warned her of the attack and she responded to it by taking out the sword she used before and stabbed dit through the soldier.
She finished off the soldier that held onto her new spear and finally aimed for the final soldier. She did the same attack as before and thrusted towards the man but she miscalculated. The soldier saw this and immediately exploited the mistake and aimed for her with his own attack. Sparks appeared as she blocked the attack with her sword.
She retracted her spear back to herself and made another attack as she was already close to the enemy. She thrusted her spear once more and was able to kill the soldier she was facing with one thrust.
While she finished her final opponent, I final finished off the final enemy I had and went towards her.
I wiped the blood off my sword and sheathed it.
"So, hows the spear?" I asked.
"It's better than the sword I used. It feels like it was meant to be mine. How was yours?" She asked.
I held out my sword and threw it up in the air only to catch it as it fell.
"The sword is great. Better than piece of crap of a sword the British had. But weapons aside, we should continue for to Chinon as we need to see the Crown Prince Charles VII before he fails another attack and surrenders" I said to Jeanne.
She nodded to my response and we continued forward towards Chinon.
