Chapter 24 - Concerned

Harper Reed just got to campus, and just as she was about to enter and wait outside for Logan, she spotted his motorcycle. Her eyes widened in surprise when she also saw him casually leaning against the motorcycle.

Then slowly, a faint smile tugged at her lips. As Harper walked towards him, she couldn't help but admire him.

This guy was perfect. He was perfect in every way. With his green eyes and blonde hair with strands covering one eye, he was alluring. He was wearing a white top with a black baggy top over it, which was a perfect match to his blue cargo pants and white sneakers.

He wore a small silver earring on his pierced left ear, the tattoos decorating his neck peeping just a little to make him look perilous yet beautiful.

His head was bent a little, his gaze down as he kicked something unseen, his thoughts far away.

Harper couldn't believe she was in a relationship with the Logan Hayes. And it didn't matter if it was a real one or not. She had never imagined herself being with someone like him... or anyone else.

Harper took a deep breath and tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear slowly.

"Heya!" she greeted him, her tone cheerful.

Logan Hayes looked up at her, and that was when she realized something was actually off about him.

If he were really okay, he would have been the one to even notice her. However, Harper decided to still go on. Maybe he was fine and just didn't feel like talking to anyone right now.

"Look who came first," she teased, fixing the strap of her tote bag. Logan said nothing and began walking. Harper stared at him curiously, her thoughts running deep, wondering why he was behaving that way.

Did she do anything wrong?

And if yes, what?

Suddenly something popped up in her mind. What if he had found out that the whole blackmail was a lie?

That she didn't really know what actually happened that Tuesday?

Harper froze, her thoughts a jumbled mess. Was that why he was showing this weird attitude? The idea of him knowing she lied made her shiver, fear climbing up—climbing up to practically paralyze her.

"Logan?" she whispered, her voice shaking. He didn't mind her. He was still moving. And now, she didn't know if he was actually pretending not to hear or if he was thinking about why she'd actually lie.

Fortunately for her, it was none.

Logan's mind was far away. Too far that all he had heard since Harper arrived was when she greeted him. That was all. Apart from that, he had heard nothing. Logan was thinking. He was thinking about how things had taken an abrupt turn in his life.

His past. Everything had now come back, and he knew for sure that they were here to settle. Something about the words Damian used when he said he would take Logan back to where he belonged made him feel...

Scared.

Feel like Damian Blackwood meant it.

And?

His Devil did.

Logan Hayes frowned. He was not going back. Not today... not ever.

He stopped when he felt someone pulling him back softly by holding his hoodie. He turned to see Harper, looking like she wanted to cry.

"Are you okay?" she inquired quietly, her voice almost inaudible.

Harper had also decided to play it natural with the thought that... what if it wasn't even about that?

Only, her fear wouldn't let her speak with confidence.

Logan found himself smiling. Did she want to cry because of this little attitude he was portraying? He felt something in him stir slightly.

"Yes," he said genuinely. "I am fine," Logan added, his smile building.

"Are you sure?" Harper asked, sincerity in her tone, her eyes staring at him, waiting on a quick answer.

"Yes, I am," Logan said confidently. "But why do you look like someone just said something hurtful to you?" he drawled, his hands slipping into his pockets.

She averted her gaze. "No, I don't look like that. And I was just asking," she said sharply, a blush crawling to her cheeks out of her silly shyness. She couldn't believe she had let her emotions show like that.

"If you say so," Logan Hayes said smilingly as he stared at her. She looked cute and simple today, and even cuter blushing and pouting absentmindedly.

She wore a simple white wrap dress and her hair was tied up into a cute messy bun, bringing out her face. She was pretty, and it was not doubtable.

A lump formed in Harper's throat, and she swallowed hard, his intense scrutiny having an effect on her.

"C–can we get going?" she asked him, her voice a mere whisper. Logan Hayes blinked, nodding rapidly as he realized she noticed him admiring her.

"Sure," he nodded, and they began walking silently. Too silent that Harper kept asking herself questions.

What was all that about?

And Logan? He was wondering what was happening to him. And why was he finding Harper — who is totally out of his league — attractive?
