The caravan of horse-drawn wagons rolled slowly away from the shimmering portal Void had opened. The glow flickered once, then vanished as the dimensional gate slammed shut behind them. What greeted them next was a wall of dense forest, so thick with tangled greenery, the sunlight barely pierced the canopy. And it was still midday.
"You sure this is where they were taken?" Void muttered, brows drawn tight as he stared out at the endless stretch of trees.
Randal just chuckled. He raised one massive hand and clapped it casually on Void's much smaller shoulder. "What, you doubting your own master now?" he said with a grin that landed more like a dare.
Void's jaw clenched, teeth grinding. His eyes burned with fury, but he refused to show weakness, especially not in front of Randal, whose smug attitude was driving him up the wall.
