Chapter 45 - THREADS OF DESTINY

"What do you mean…?" Nuriana asked, her voice laced with curiosity.

Diana merely inclined her head, her expression unreadable, "There is a secret within Havi," she murmured, "Something neither of us truly understands, at least, not yet."

Nuriana frowned, "Are you speaking of reincarnation?"

Diana exhaled slowly, as though searching for the right words, "As I said before, he may not be like the rest of us. The way he speaks to me… and to you as well, it is as if, in some forgotten past, he knew us both. Knew us far more deeply than we could ever comprehend."

Nuriana fell into thoughtful silence, her mind circling around a single word, reincarnation.

"But… does reincarnation truly exist?" she murmured at last, hesitant. "Wouldn't such a notion contradict our beliefs?"

Diana's gaze did not waver, "Perhaps it does exist," she mused, "But only for those burdened by regrets, those who, in another life, made mistakes they cannot forget. That is what Havi has told me… time and time again."

Nuriana turned sharply towards her, "Time and time again?" she echoed.

Diana nodded, her fingers curling slightly at her sides, "Havi once told me that, in his past life, he made me wait. For twenty years… perhaps even thirty."

She hesitated, as if the weight of her words pressed down upon her.

"At first, I thought nothing of it," she continued at length. "I assumed he was merely tired, that he spoke in riddles because his mind was overwhelmed. But then…" she trailed off.

Nuriana leaned forward slightly, "But then?"

Diana took a steadying breath, "Then he mentioned a name, Ade Cynthia."

"A childhood friend of mine. Someone I have not spoken of in years. How could Havi have known of her? How could he have uttered her name so casually when, only three days ago, I stepped into his home for the first time? That was the very first moment we ever spoke at length."

She swallowed, "And earlier, outside the school… his face turned ashen. He paled the instant Yono mentioned his parents were planning to buy him a new bicycle as a birthday gift."

"Havi told me once, told me that in his past life, his parents had died in an accident. Yono and I thought little of it at the time, dismissing it as an odd remark. But then… your car appeared. Spinning out of control. And at that very moment, his parents stepped forward to cross the road."

Diana met Nuriana's gaze, her voice growing softer, "Think, Nuriana. How did Havi know?"

A hush settled between them, thick and uneasy.

"Is he a seer? A sorcerer?" Diana shook her head.

"I do not believe so. There are only two possibilities, either he experienced déjà vu, or…" She hesitated. "Or he has walked this earth before."

Nuriana's breath caught in her throat. Doubt warred with a strange, growing certainty she did not want to name.

Diana watched her carefully before speaking once more, "You should go home, Nuriana. It is late." A pause. "And… Havi has awakened."

Nuriana exhaled, a deep, heavy sigh, "I will return tomorrow."

She turned away, her footsteps slow, as though the weight of their conversation clung to her with every step.

Diana watched her go, lingering in the quiet. And then, almost to herself, she whispered,

"Havi… it seems that Nuriana was always meant to change the course of your life. Even in the life you lived before."

Shaking off the thoughts that threatened to consume her, she turned and slipped back into the emergency room, where Havi lay waiting.

Inside the Emergency Room...

"Where is Diana?" Havi's voice broke the silence.

"She might be outside," Yono replied casually.

As if summoned by his words, Diana entered the room, her expression unreadable.

"Were you looking for me?"

Havi turned towards her, his curiosity piqued, "Oh… where have you been?"

"I was having a conversation," she answered, her tone light yet enigmatic.

Havi frowned slightly, "A conversation? With whom?"

Diana's lips curled into the faintest of smiles, "Your lover… or perhaps… your wife. From your past life."

A brief silence followed, as Havi processed her words. Then, with a forced chuckle, he shook his head.

"My lover? My wife? Don't be ridiculous, Diana. Nuriana is just..."

"The one responsible for your reincarnation?" Diana interrupted, her gaze unwavering.

Before Havi could respond, Mrs Saras, who had been listening in bewilderment, finally spoke up, "What on earth are you two talking about?"

"Is this about that girl? Are you arguing over her?" Mr Ridho added, his brow furrowed.

Diana quickly adopted a light-hearted tone, "Uncle, Aunt… no, nothing of the sort. We were merely rehearsing for a play."

Mrs Saras crossed her arms, "A play? But aren't you two from different schools?"

Havi, ever quick-witted, interjected, "It's a production my school is hosting. Right, Yono?"

Yono, though clearly baffled, nodded in agreement, "Oh… yes, that's right."

Mr Ridho sighed, "Well, whatever it is. But what about tonight? Will you both be staying here, or…?"

Diana spoke with quiet authority, "I will stay. Uncle, Aunt, and Yono... I shall see you home first."

"But, my dear, that's too much trouble for you," Mrs Saras protested. "We are his parents, after all."

Diana merely smiled, "It's no trouble at all. There are matters I need to discuss with Havi."

Havi turned to his parents, his tone gentle but firm, "Mother, Father... don't forget about Grandfather Har. He's home alone."

Mrs Saras gasped, "Oh, heavens! We completely forgot. Alright, Havi, take care of yourself."

She and Mr Ridho left in haste. As Yono prepared to follow, he leaned in close to Havi, whispering with a smirk, "Are you sure you'll still be a virgin by morning? Well then… good luck."

"Get out!" Havi snapped, his cheeks flushing slightly as Yono chuckled and strode away.

Diana lingered at the doorway, her eyes locking onto his with quiet intensity, "Do not go anywhere. I shall return soon."

Havi let out a dry laugh, "Where could I possibly go? As you can see, I'm quite trapped here."

Diana huffed softly, then turned and disappeared into the corridor, leaving Havi alone with his thoughts.
